Govindaraja Swamy Brahmotsavams begin with ‘hoisting of sacred flag'

The Hindu3 days ago

The annual Brahmotsavams at the TTD-run Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple got off to a traditional start with the 'Dhwajarohanam' ceremony on Monday. The ritual Dhwajarohanam, hoisting of the sacred flag atop the temple flag post, signals the commencement of the nine-day festival that involves procession of the deities on the streets encircling the temple precincts.
After performing special puja to the flag bearing the imprint of 'Garuda', the favourite celestial carrier of Lord Mahavishnu, priests carried the same in a procession around the temple. During the auspicious 'Mithuna Lagnam' between 7.02 am and 7.20am, the priests hoisted the flag atop the flag post as per the tenets of Vaikhanasa Agama, amid chanting of Vedic hymns and to the beats of traditional drums.
The deities were given a celestial bath with aromatic substances during the 'Snapana Tirumanjanam' ritual performed in the afternoon. In the evening, the processional deity of Lord Govindaraja was taken on 'Pedda Sesha Vahanam', a huge carrier representing a seven-hooded serpent, on the four streets around the temple.
The serpent represents 'Adi Sesha', which serves as the bed and canopy for Lord Vishnu and is hence considered the first among his divine followers.
The Tirumala-Tirupati Pedda Jeeyangar and Chinna Jeeyangar, Deputy Executive Officer V.R. Shanti and Assistant Executive Officer Munikrishna Reddy took part in the events.

Plans afoot to plant 2 lakh saplings in coordination with forest department, says TTD Addl. EO

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary on Thursday said that the TTD is implementing a comprehensive strategy to increase the green cover in Tirumala to 80% as part of the World Environment Day celebrations. Speaking to the media after planting a sapling of Ficus Bengalensis (Banyan-Marri) in the premises of Octopus building, he said that over 2,000 saplings are being planted in various parts atop the temple town as part of the green initiative. Highlighting the ecological importance of each tree in Tirumala, Mr. Chowdary stated that the TTD is discouraging the planting of foreign species that could harm native flora. 'We have identified 40 native plant species through detailed research and the focus is on planting them to preserve the region's natural biodiversity.'' Emphasising the TTD's commitment to environmental conservation, Mr. Chowdary noted that the management has already banned the use of plastic in the temple town and further steps are in the offing to make the town plastic-free. Despite the ban, devotees often bring plastic items and throw them out of vehicle windows along the ghat roads, he said and underlined the need to create more awareness and stepping up monitoring at the Alipiri checkpoint. He also announced the temple administration's ambitious plans to plant an additional 2,00,000 saplings in coordination with the Forest Department in the days to come. The event among others was attended by Deputy Conservator of Forests Srinivasulu, Deputy EO Somanna Rayana and EE Sudhakar.

TTD Announces Divya Darshan Tokens to be Released at Bhudevi Complex

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has announced that the Bhudevi Complex, located near Alipiri, will begin issuing tokens for devotees walking along the Srivari Mettu route. Tokens will be made available from 5 pm on the 6th of this month. Previously, devotees would collect tokens near the first step of the route and scan them at the 1,200th step, which proved to be cumbersome. In response to these challenges, officials have decided to set up permanent counters at Srinivasa Mangapuram to facilitate the issuance of Divya Darshan tokens. Until those counters are operational, tokens will continue to be issued at the Bhudevi Complex. The complex will feature a total of 10 counters, comprising 4 for Divya Darshan tokens and 6 for timed Sarva Darshan tokens. Devotees will initially be allowed into the sheds at the Balaji Bus Stand premises and will be organised into queue lines to streamline the token collection process.

NMC issues promotion orders to 39 engineers after 5-month delay

Nagpur: Facing flak for inaction, municipal commissioner and administrator Abhijeet Chaudhari on Wednesday finally issued long-pending promotion orders for 32 junior engineers and seven deputy engineers. They have now been elevated to the ranks of deputy and executive engineers, respectively. Along with the promotions, Chaudhari also approved a reshuffle of five executive engineers, three deputy engineers, and 12 junior engineers. For the first time, posts of executive engineers were created in two departments — education and sports and cultural. Until now, the sports department was handled by Sports Officer Piyush Ambulkar, while buildings of NMC-run schools were monitored by executive engineers from respective zonal offices. The creation of dedicated posts is expected to streamline operations and bring focused oversight to these sectors. The promotions come nearly five months after the state govt's resolution dated December 16, 2024, which endorsed Chaudhari's proposal to promote engineers under the unified cadre structure of 17,981 posts approved by the urban development department. Despite completing all formalities, including scrutiny and shortlisting of eligible candidates in September, the civic body had delayed signing the actual orders.
