Eagles' Jalen Hurts Shines Through Voluntary Workouts

Eagles' Jalen Hurts Shines Through Voluntary Workouts

Eagles' Jalen Hurts Shines Through Voluntary Workouts originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Fresh off a Super Bowl MVP effort for the Philadelphia Eagles, Jalen Hurts has already accomplished in four seasons what Hall-of-Fame quarterbacks have failed to do throughout their careers.

The next step for Hurts, is to dominate on the stat sheet - not just in the win column.
Through the first month of workouts at the NovaCare Complex, it seems that is precisely what Hurts is set on doing.
Via multiple reports out of Philadelphia, Hurts has been fantastic in team drills. His accuracy has improved leaps and bounds, and his decision-making remains as strong as ever.
"Jalen Hurts, what he's become as a quarterback I think really shows off in practice," WIP reporter Elliot Schorr-Parks said on Friday. "There is such a difference between what he was when I used to watch him practice even two years ago, three years ago than what he is now.

"You can just see the veteran quarterback player that he has become. The ball just never hits the ground, it never hits the ground when Jalen is quarterbacking now in practice."
The reporter made a comparison, in terms of pinpoint accuracy, to Tom Brady.
And that's where we must tap the brakes here.
As always, it is important to take workout numbers with a grain of salt. Before Hurts' MVP-caliber season in 2022, he struggled for multiple practices at the start of the season.
That year turned out to be OK.
Coming off a Super Bowl win, though, changes the narrative with Hurts. He already has shown an ability to play (and win) at the highest level. That brings a feel of confidence that few players have in the league today.

Does that make him Brady? Nah.
But …
Confidence is among the reasons why Hurts seems to just be getting started with the Eagles offense.

Joe Mazzulla's Blunt Message to Celtics Player Surfaces on Friday

Joe Mazzulla's Blunt Message to Celtics Player Surfaces on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Ever since he took over as the Boston Celtics head coach, Joe Mazzulla has run things his way. Even though the Celtics are coming off a second-round elimination, this has earned them their 18th title as a franchise. Advertisement Mazzula's coaching philosophy also includes his distrust of rookies. Celtics rookie Baylor Scheierman revealed as such when he first started playing under Mazzulla during the 2024-25 season. Scheierman ended the regular season with a fair amount of optimism surrounding his future. However, he starts his NBA career a little slow, as Mazzulla didn't really trusting him until the end of the season. During an exclusive interview on "The Garden Report," Scheierman revealed a candid conversation with Mazzulla during the Celtics' training camp in 2024. Advertisement 'Listen, I don't really like rookies,' Mazzulla told Scheierman. 'So you're gonna have to battle this year, and that's kind of how it is. 'And I was like, 'alright, that's alright.'' For what it's worth, it's not unheard of that coaches are apprehensive about playing rookies. Especially ones that are coaching teams with title hopes. Scheierman clearly took Mazzulla's words to heart and tried to improve his game to prove himself. In due time, Mazzulla started giving him more time when the team was undermanned, and Scheierman thrived in it, showing his skills as a shooter and a passer. With Jayson Tatum out indefinitely, Scheierman's role might get even bigger next season. Rams Legend Andrew Whitworth Addresses Possibility of Coaching

Rams Legend Andrew Whitworth Addresses Possibility of Coaching originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Andrew Whitworth hung his cleats up over three years ago, calling it quits after 16 seasons in the NFL. He went out on top, winning Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams. Advertisement Whitworth, who, along with Matthew Stafford, helped lead that championship-winning group, was recently asked if he'd be interested in returning to the game in a different capacity. "Thx for asking Chef! I enjoy coaching my kids for now. Don't see myself coaching at higher levels. But it would be foolish to talk in absolutes about a game I love. Only time will tell," Whitworth wrote Thursday on X. Whitworth opted to retire after realizing his body was "tired. ... There's just still been some days where my body doesn't want to move with me." Whitworth earned a Pro Bowl nod four times and was named a first-team All-Pro twice. During his final season, at 40 years old, he became the oldest player to start at left tackle in an NFL game. Kirby Lee-Imagn Images "There is nobody that has had a bigger impact than Andrew Whitworth on establishing the foundation, the culture of 'We Not Me,' and being a part of something bigger than yourself," Rams head coach Sean McVay said after Whitworth hung his cleats up. "Helping influence and affect people in the right way, through the good -- but I think even more importantly, in the bad. That's when he was at his best." Advertisement That type of leadership would likely suit Whitworth well as a coach. McVay has a good deal of admiration for the former standout offensive lineman. Cameras Catch Caitlin Clark's Reaction to Angel Reese's Mistake on Saturday

Cameras Catch Caitlin Clark's Reaction to Angel Reese's Mistake on Saturday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When this season started, Saturday's game between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky was expected to be a marquee matchup between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. The two have formed a budding rivalry over the last couple of years that some have compared to that of NBA legends Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. Advertisement But Clark is out with a strained quad, and she could only sit and watch as her team ran up a 68-39 lead at the end of the third quarter. About midway through the third quarter, Reese attempted to execute a spin move in the post but was called for traveling. Clark couldn't help but react from the bench. The Fever came into this game with a 3-4 record. Ever since Clark was diagnosed with her injury nearly two weeks ago, they have struggled -- they had lost three games in a row, starting with Clark's last game, before defeating the Washington Mystics on Tuesday. Chicago, meanwhile, has a 2-4 record and has won two games in a row. Advertisement Coming into this game, Reese was shooting a paltry 31.1% from the field on the season, although she's averaging 12.3 rebounds a game. Her shooting troubles continued on Saturday versus Indiana. The two teams met again in 2024, this time in the Elite Eight round, with Iowa prevailing, 94-87. The good news for Indiana, other than the big lead they built on Saturday, is that Clark may be able to return to action as early as Tuesday when it faces Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream.
