Male professors to be removed from women's universities in Punjab

The Punjab government has decided to remove male professors and teachers from women's universities across the province to prevent harassment and safeguard female students.
Governor Sardar Saleem Haider announced the decision while speaking to the media, stating that strict punishments would be enforced against individuals involved in harassment at educational institutions.
In addition to removing male staff, the governor revealed that the system for preparing and checking examination papers would be overhauled to protect female students from blackmail and harassment.
'All university administrations have been directed to implement the new system,' Haider said, adding that performance evaluation forms will be distributed to vice-chancellors and professors. Future rewards and punishments will be based on these assessments.
Last month, while launching the Honhaar Scholarship Programme for Gujranwala division by distributing cheques among the 10 top students at Government College Women University (GCWU) Sialkot, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that all students with more than 65% marks will be provided laptops."
A guard of honour was presented to the students by contingent of Punjab Police.
The chief minister announced that the Punjab government would take responsibility for the cancer treatment of a female student's mother.
Under the scheme, 1,947 students of Gujranwala division will get scholarships worth Rs89.8 million, including 1,276 students of government universities receiving Rs58.5 million, 481 students of colleges Rs13.2 million, 112 students of private institutions and 78 of medical colleges.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on the occasion that she had directed the authorities concerned to increase the number of Honhaar scholarships to 50,000 in next year's budget.
She said 30,000 scholarships were being given to children but there should be more. She said public money should be spent on their welfare.
She added, "Very soon, second and third year students will also get meritorious scholarships."

Four TTP men neutralised in DG Khan
Punjab Police on Sunday carried out a major operation against operatives of outlawed TTP in DG Khan and killed four alleged terrorists. According to a statement, police received intelligence about the movement of terrorists at Daulat Wala Mor, located in Kot Mubarak, a border area between Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The terrorists were reportedly setting up illegal checkpoints in the area. Later, Punjab Police and its Elite Force teams swiftly moved in, while commandant of Border Military Police, Asad Khan Chandia, sealed entry routes into the tribal area. The police later surrounded the terrorists and launched an operation, during which intense exchange of fire took place. The TTP operatives, heavily armed, attacked police teams, but Punjab Police responded "with timely and effective action, foiling their nefarious plans". In the operation, four TTP men were killed, while several others were injured. According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, the remaining terrorists used the cover of darkness, bushes and dunes to flee the scene. Police recovered weapons and explosives from the possession of the deceased terrorists. A search and sweep operation is ongoing in the area following the encounter. President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to law enforcement agencies for "eliminating four Khawarij during an operation in DG Khan".

Punjab Police kill four terrorists in Dera Ghazi Khan
Punjab Police on Sunday killed four terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in the Kot Mubarak area of Dera Ghazi Khan district. According to a spokesperson for Punjab Police, law enforcement officials launched the operation following credible intelligence regarding the movement of terrorists affiliated with the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) near the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border. As police teams encircled the area and commenced the operation, the terrorists opened heavy fire. A fierce exchange ensued, during which four terrorists were killed, the police spokesperson said. Punjab Police foil major terror attack in Dera Ghazi Khan Arms and ammunition were recovered from the site, he said. 'Some of the militants managed to escape into nearby bushes and dunes,' he said, adding that a search and sweep operation was underway to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects. Inspector General of Punjab Police Dr Usman Anwar commended the local police for their swift and effective response, stating that Punjab Police remain a 'fortified wall' against extremist elements and will not allow anti-state actors to succeed in their nefarious designs. PM Shehbaz, Field Marshal Munir vow decisive action against Indian-sponsored proxies in Balochistan Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the Dera Ghazi Khan police for what he described as a successful operation against 'the menace of Khawarij.' 'The entire nation stands united in the fight against terrorism,' the premier said in a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office. 'We will not rest until the complete eradication of this menace from the country.' The prime minister also praised the professionalism and bravery of the officers and personnel involved in the operation, noting the enduring sacrifices of police and law enforcement agencies in the ongoing war against terrorism.

CM Maryam announces medical college for Layyah
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif made important announcements at a ceremony to distribute laptops and Honhaar scholarship cheques in Layyah. She announced the establishment of a medical college in Layyah along with starting classes. She also announced historic funds worth Rs. 3 billion for the universities of Dera Ghazi Khan and Layyah. She announced establishment of Nawaz Sharif Centres of Excellence for 'Early Childhood Education' in Dera Ghazi Khan and Layyah. She also announced provision of classrooms, toilets and other basic facilities in all schools of Punjab within one year with a huge fund of Rs 110 billion. She announced that now no school in Punjab will remain deprived of essential facilities. She congratulated Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on the success of Operation 'Bunyan-um-Marsoos'. She also congratulated Air Chief Babar Zaheer Sindhu on behalf of the students and paid tribute to the officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army and other institutions. The Chief Minister while addressing the ceremony said, 'If the youth become an iron wall, no power in the world can defeat Pakistan. Despite being a small country in terms of population and resources, it defeated a country many times larger in proportion. Those who used to say that no one can bring down Rafale should know that we brought it down with JF Thunder. The youth should show their strength and themselves become 'Bunyan-um-Marsoos' for their nation.' She said, 'The first year has just passed, we will bring more improvements for the students in the coming years. No child of Punjab will be deprived of education due to dearth of resources. The Punjab government built Pakistan's first historic Early Childhood Education Centre in only 6 months. I think for the welfare of people day and night and work till 12 midnight. I want to improve the conditions of the people by working day and night.' She said female commissioners and deputy commissioners are doing a great job. 'I always urge the talented students to think and dream big so as to materialise their ambitions. Layyah is a small city but it is very close to my heart. I cannot forget the respect and love which has been given by the students for the rest of my life.' She said, 'I have ample time to meet the talented students, I feel overwhelmingly grieved after listening tragic and sad stories of innocent children. A nation is destroyed not by missiles but by sedition. Those who lead the youth on the wrong path destroy them. Those who desecrate the graves of martyrs are forgotten in the pages of history. Those who respect their institutions live with pride and high esteem. Our brave soldiers have sacrificed their precious lives for the sake of security and safety of our dear homeland.
