Passion, hard work, skills needed to be successful: Bhuvanesh Patil

The Hindu26-04-2025

'Passion, hard work, discipline, confidence and requisite skills will help in you achieving excellence in your chosen field,' Chief Executive Officer of Dharwad Zilla Panchayat Bhuvanesh Patil has said.
He was inaugurating The Hindu EducationPlus Career Counselling 2025 at Bio Technology Hall of KLE Technology University (BVB Campus) in Hubballi on Saturday.
The IAS officer, who cracked the civil services exam on his fourth attempt, narrated his own example of how failures helped him succeed. 'You need to identify your passion and also check whether you have the requisite skills,' he said. 'It is not always necessary to listen to what others say about choosing a career because none knows you better than yourself. You know your strength and weaknesses better than anyone else. So choose your career based on your passion and skills', he said.
Mr. Patil said that although students from moffusil centres had the requisite skills and potential, they lacked the confidence of students brought up in urban areas. 'Developing confidence will help you face any challenge. Confidence comes from working day in and day out. Continuous practice will help you build it,' he said.
He pointed out that simply working hard would not yield results and a systematic plan and discipline were crucial to reaching goals.
Mr. Patil told the students to remember that achieving success in an examination or in a chosen field did not mean one's struggle would end as one would have to struggle throughout life. 'In my opinion being successful means having the ability to face any challenge,' he said.
He briefed the students on preparing for civil services or other competitive examinations. Having a backup plan was also necessary, he said.
Career options
Career coach and trainer Syed Sadat Pasha from CIGMA Foundation threw light on various career options available to the students after their II PUC. Apart from engineering and medical sciences, there were several other career options available to the students, he said.
Rajesh Hongal, lecturer, Computer Science and Engineering, and KEA representative, briefed the students about the online counselling process and what they should bear in mind while attending the counselling to choose courses.
In the interactive session, Dean cum Director of Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute Dr. S.F. Kammar clarified the doubts of students and parents on the medical sciences and emphasised why one should choose the profession, considered as noble profession.
Answering queries on engineering, researcher, trainer and Director of Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research of KLE Technological University Prof. Satyadhyan Chickerur shed light on the changing technological scenario due to the advent of artificial intelligence. Highlighting the need to choose a course based on one's interest, he also told students to keep track of changing trends and advancements in technology while opting for engineering courses.
Several students and their parents raised questions on various career options and the scope for various courses and got their doubts cleared during the interactive session.

99% Balbharati textbook distribution complete: Officials

Ahead of the new academic year 2025-26, the Maharashtra State Bureau of Textbook Production (Balbharati) has completed the distribution of 99% of textbooks, said officials. 'Schools are starting from June 16. Books have reached everywhere, except for minor exceptions. This year, 5.7 crore books were printed as per demand. As per the decision taken by the state government, books for Class 1 have been made available as per New Education Policy (NEP),' said Krishnakumar Patil, director, Balbharati. Last year, the distribution of textbooks by Balbharati faced several issues, such as delays in the delivery of textbooks, especially in remote areas. Many students received books many weeks after school began, and several textbooks had blank pages and missing content due to printing errors. There was also a shortage of several subject books in the market. 'To avoid repetition of these challenges, Balbharati has improved planning this year and completed 99% distribution before school reopening,' said Patil. The Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan initiative aims to ensure that no student from standard 1 to 8 is deprived of textbooks. The main objective is to achieve 100% attendance in schools and reduce dropout rates of students to zero through the free textbook distribution scheme of the government. Under the initiative, Balbharati provides free textbooks to students from Class 1 to 8 enrolled in government and government-aided schools. The distribution was executed according to the demand through Balbharati's network of regional warehouses, and book depots across Maharashtra, said officials.

By Antara Kulkarni The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) launched the city's first tree ambulance on World Environment Day on June 5. The initiative aims to protect, conserve, and restore the trees of the city. The service was inaugurated by president of NGO AngholichiGoli (Bath Pill) Madhav Patil, alongside PMC Commissioner Naval Kishor Ram, Additional Municipal Commissioner Prithviraj B.P., and PMC Garden Department Head Ashok Ghorpade. Patil said, 'It will work to heal the trees… it's all about giving respect to trees. This movement is necessary to introduce a balance between tree cutting and tree preservation,' says Patil. After launching a 'Nail-Free Tree' initiative, the NGO claims to have removed more than 1 lakh nails from trees. The Tree Ambulance is equipped to protect the trees from the issue of nails. Patil encouraged Ghorpade to partner up with various NGOs in different parts of Pune that operate the Tree Ambulance. Each NGO in their area in Pune is assigned a separate day of the week where they can use the Tree Ambulance to clean and preserve the trees in that area, so that the vehicle can be utilised in the most effective way possible. The tree ambulance is now located at Jangali Maharaj Road, and has contact numbers displayed so that concerned citizens can inform its operators about where its services may be utilised best.
