"We support right of self-defence of each other": Israeli envoy on India's Operation Sindoor

India Gazettea day ago

New Delhi [India], June 13 (ANI): Israel's Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, has expressed support for Operation Sindoor, which was launched by Indian Armed Forces on May 9, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), saying that Israel and India support the right of self-defence of each other.
In an exclusive Interview with ANI, Azar stated that Israel and India have been working together to deal with common threats when it comes to building capabilities. He emphasised that India and Israel have a relationship of trust, and it will deepen as the challenges faced by the two nations increase.
When asked about he sees Operation Sindoor, he responded, 'First of all, as much as we are not part of the conflict between India and Pakistan, India is not a part of the conflict between Iran and Israel. And therefore, it is very natural that we will not be involved directly in conflicts that we are not involved in. On the other hand, I think that we support the right of self-defence of each other, and we've been working together to deal with common threats when it comes to the building of capabilities. So we consider ourselves close friends and allies, strategic partners, and we want to be in a situation where this cooperation continues. I'm sure it will continue because it benefits both countries. This is a relationship of trust. and this will only deepen because the challenges against us are only mounting.'
In response to the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people and injured several others, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7. Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of over 100 terrorists linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM).
Reuven Azar emphasised that nations are responding responsibly to Israel's action against Iran. He noted that Israel has shared intelligence with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), friends and Western powers and mentioned that they understand the 'ferocity and radicalism' coming from Iran.
When asked about a perception that Israel is the aggressor following its strikes on Iran, Reuven Azar said, 'I haven't seen, I've seen the responses following what happened tonight. I think that many countries are responding in a very responsible way. Of course, they're in a situation of alarm and concern, but they haven't delegitimised our right to self-defence. I think the fact that we have shared intelligence, both with the IAEA and with other Western powers and other friends. People understand the ferocity and the radicalism coming from Iran, the fact that they have been doing all these activities to destroy us, and haven't seen condemnation so far. We are, of course, in touch with the Indian government as well, and we are coordinating briefs to our colleagues to present them with both the information we have and the action that we've taken.'
Defending Israel's action against Iran, he stated that Israel has been acting very responsibly and has given many chances to Iran to retract from its policy. According to him, Iran intends to take Jerusalem and wants to control the Islamic world.
Azar stated, 'I think that Israel has been acting very responsibly because we've been postponing this military action for a very long time. Iran has been given many, many chances to retract from this policy. They have been sanctioned, they've been negotiating with. We have seen many, many attempts by different countries in the world to try to divert Iran from this line of action, and the fact that we have reached this point is because it's an imminent moment that we couldn't continue living with, and therefore, we took action. I think people appreciate the degree of our restraint.'
'And I can tell you that many countries in the Arab world feel as threatened by Israel as Israel, if not more, because, you know, what the Iranians are doing is very clear for many countries. Iran wants to take Jerusalem, but it's only a stop on the way to Mecca and Medina. This is what they want to do. They want to control the Islamic world, and they have been attacking other countries in the past. Look what happened more than four years ago in Saudi Arabia when they directly attacked the oil production of Saudi Arabia. So, I think that Israel is actually supported, and people, even if they don't support, they understand why we are taking this action,' he added.
He stressed that the international community is facing a challenge in dealing with rogue states and mentioned that the nations need to be more efficient in finding ways of dealing with them.
When asked whether Israel understands India's apprehension with IAEA as Pakistan under its watch exchanged nuclear material for ballistic missile technology from North Korea, he responded, 'We have a problem with the success or lack of success of the international community in dealing with rogue states. When you want to generate world order and you put forward a series of agreements to create a code of conduct, and then some countries are abusing that, like Iraq, which, you know, cheated and tried to create a nuclear arsenal. Like Syria, under Assad, they cheated and worked to create a nuclear weapon. Like Libya, under Gaddafi, they did that. So, we have a challenge as an international community to deal with rogue states, and we have to be more efficient in finding ways of dealing with that, because if we fail, then we get to situations like we have today.'
'There have been countries assisting Iran in their nuclear program, the ballistic missile program, not only the country that you mentioned, but also North Korea and others. Israel is acting against an actor that has stated publicly time and again that it wants to annihilate us and has acted, taken action to attack us through their proxies. That is Iran. That's why we are acting against Iran and not against other countries, ' he added.
Earlier in the day, Israel Defence Minister Israel Katz said that Israel began a preemptive strike against Iran on Friday, as per The Times of Israel. He declared an emergency across the country due to Israel's action in Iran.
'Following the State of Israel's preemptive strike against Iran, a missile and drone attack against the State of Israel and its civilian population is expected in the immediate future,' The Times of Israel quoted Katz as saying.
Katz said that he signed 'a special order, according to which a special state of emergency will be imposed in the home front throughout the entire State of Israel.'
'You must obey the instructions of the Home Front Command and the authorities and remain in the protected areas,' Katz added, as per The Times of Israel. Sirens wailed across Israel as the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened his security cabinet, as Israel began the airstrikes. (ANI)

Also read: Air India Ahmedabad plane crash updates on June 14, 2025 'Nobody should take such incidents lightly and say such things keep happening, or that this is routine. I would also like to say that nobody should try to take credit by visiting the site or meeting the injured and then getting photos clicked,' Mr. Kharge said. Though he did not name anyone, Mr. Kharge's remarks seemed to be a reference to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's comments after visiting the crash site on Thursday (June 12, 2025), when he said: 'I want to tell you one thing. It was an accident. No one can stop accidents.' Compensation and accountability At the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, Mr. Kharge met injured people, including the lone survivor of the plane crash, and others injured on the ground, including medical students. He later told reporters that the Centre must give compensation to the kin of the deceased and to the injured. 'Time to be united in grief' The Congress chief said he would not say anything about the need for an inquiry as it is currently a time of grief. 'The black box has been found. Let its findings come. After that, we will raise demands accordingly,'he said. AICC general secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is on a two-day tour of Kerala, also said it was the time to be 'united in grief'. 'It is a moment where we need to stand together and just provide solidarity,' she said. 'It is being investigated. Then in the future, whatever corrective measures need to be taken, will be taken to protect people and lives,' she added.

Revanth extends all out support to Telugu Film industry, urges collaboration for Telangana's $3 trillion vision

HYDERABAD Reaffirming his commitment to the Telugu film industry, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urged the bigwigs of Tollywood to put aside their previous issues with the government and be a part of the State's mission of achieving a $3 trillion economy by 2047. 'Even if the government seems a bit strict at times, it is only for your development,' he said. Speaking at the maiden Telangana Gaddar Film Awards (TGFA) ceremony at Hitex here on Saturday, Mr. Reddy urged the film industry to prepare a comprehensive plan for its development and submit it to the government, assuring that all necessary support would be provided. Recalling the history of recognising cinema in the region, Mr. Reddy said the Congress government instituted the Nandi Awards in 1964, a tradition that was carried on in undivided Andhra Pradesh. He lamented that no film awards were given for the last 14 years, pointing to the neglect by previous governments. 'I will be in active politics for another 22 years, and regardless of my position, I will continue to support the growth of Telugu cinema,' he said. Mr. Reddy emphasised that Hyderabad had become the epicentre of the Indian film industry and noted: 'Indian film industry means Telugu film industry now.' He stressed the importance of raising the industry to international standards and called on stakeholders to be part of Telangana's development journey. The Chief Minister also paid rich tributes to revolutionary balladeer Gaddar, after whom the awards are named.

Modi's eleven years- making of a brave new India

The breeze from Indus, a Shiva mantra at Kailas, a trek in Chushul and a chadar walk on frozen Zanskar. All this put together describes Tarun Vijay. He is a former BJP member of Rajya Sabha. The blog revolves around everything that is Mother India and her concerns. LESS ... MORE Counting number of people benefitted materially and creating impressive graphs to showcase progress of the nation under the leader is not the right and proper way to judge him. How many of us remember Shivaji for uplifting poor from severe poverty or making houses for the downtrodden? How many roads and water bodies did Maharaja Ranjit Singh create that made him great? We all remember the great Indian heroes for trouncing the enemies of the nation and protecting Dharma. Everything else follows naturally- prosperity, flowering of the arts and culture, beautiful landscapes and joy on the faces of the common people. If nation remains in fear of the enemies and dharma is mocked at by the eliminators of the people and culture like Jihadis and Maoists, nothing good may happen to that land and people. America owes its progress to the leaders who led the people by their example, upheld the lofty ideals of a civilized society and built a new country. They were Lincolns, Jeffersons, Martin Luther Kings and innumerable men and women who recycled the time machine for a nascent country, set new standards and reversed everything that the savage British had left for them- including renaming places, changing voltage use (US 120 volt-UK 230 volt) , rephrasing popular usages like footpath to path ways, US plugs and sockets were made to have a different configuration than those in the UK, turned electric switches' functions reversed, discontinuing the British way-even if that meant initial problems for adaptation by the masses. If the brutal British had switches on- by turning the knob down, newly independent Americans decided to have it the opposite way-bottom to top- , road way commuting was turned right hand drive and language of the country was declared as American-English- changing spellings in such a strong way that today English- British and English -American are globally accepted ways of writing in two different ways. The pride and confidence in being American paved the way to a million flowers blooming in various sectors- making it a great nation. Same happened to Israel. The tiny Jewish nation, resurfaced after two thousand years of wait and prayers and struggles, is not great because it developed great technological prowess from the day one. No. It affirmed its true identity, it stuck to its roots, ancient language, it swore to protect nation's soul and core values that Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya in India called as Chiti- the innermost core of a people and the land. It produced true leaders like Ben Gurion and Golda Maier- like the Lincoln and King, showed courage to have Hebrew as their national language- a language that was not in vogue since last two millenniums and the rest followed in a natural way. It became strong and great. India forgot to eliminate the remnants of British – Moghul colonialism and continued with the slave mindset. Modi changed the way India was thinking before- it hit hard the colonial mindset- ignited a fire in the hearts of a billion people to march ahead- make progress, shed colonial hangover and be a true, proud, brave Indian. The making of a new parliament, built by Indians for India, is a landmark in our previous millenniums' old history of resistance. The new central vista will herald an Indian dream for Indians created by Indian engineers and labor- not a viceregal palace built by the foreigners as was the old structure. Decolonising armed forces, getting Indian navy a new insignia inspired by Shivaji, reminding the people about the brave heroes like Lachit Barphukan , Suheldev and Ahilya Bai Holkar, getting the courageous war between Arunachal Pradesh's indigenous faith tribes and the British like Anglo Khamti war presented though various channels of media- movies, plays and text books, changing text books and indigenization of the defense production , a spectacular network of roads, bridges, airports and seaports, are just a few initial baby steps of a nation whose march to superior heights of power and glory is now unstoppable. All this has happened with one mantra- injecting courage in the veins of a nation . We can do the impossible, we will make India great again was the war cry to awaken the people. . India can do- is the new mantra of the republic. If article 370 and 35 A needed to be removed, India removed it. The voices that ominously warned of 'rivers of blood' if 370 was touched remained conspicuously silent. If Muslim women needed to be unshackled from the curse of triple Talaq, it was done. If the mafia war lords of Mushtaq Ansari type and Maoists needed to be silenced , India did it. India suffers from a severe memory loss, it forgot or believed that all its ancient past consisted of snake charmers, heathens and pagans and the western education, British colonization civilized us, turned us into a nation. Modi punctured this colonial savagery in our system and shook our beliefs entering into a new era of regaining Bharat that was called by the foreigners as India. The resurgence of an unprecedented number of books on our hoary past, great achievements, scientific- spiritual innovations, the immense flow of devotees to our Dharmic institutions, festivals, Mahakumbh hasn't happened in a mechanical way. Temple going was never so normal, easy, part of a daily life and universally acceptable as it has been seen these days. It has a reason and a systematic growth in Bhakti and Shakti is comparable to only 1857's resurgence for war of independence. The amazing rise of the Temple of Rama at Ayodhya is not just a new structure, but the greatest move in reviving our collective memory and rekindling a sense of valour and victory in our veins. Ayodhya has become India and India has merged its identity into Ayodhya. Modi is made of a material that shines in storms. If a stupid and a lackadaisical opposition fails to create one, he creates one for himself-a new storm – in form of seemingly un- achievable goal and walks a winner. He has a knack to enter the lion's cave alone and count its teeth like Bharat. He remains unfazed in face of defeats and insults and emerges a better man passing through tests by fire. Having known him personally for the last more than three decades and being a witness to his most difficult times in Gujarat- I can say Narendra Bhai is a biggest eliminator of the nation's enemies so far who has shown a courage of a Swayamsevak in the centenary year of his mentor organization the RSS, to face worst storms of his life- storms that were predicted by his opponents as 'enough to end his public life' and he tamed them with a calmness so rarely found in world leaders. His eleven years are not to be weighed against the material benefits that Indian people have accrued – but by the sense of being strong, powerful and full of 'Can Do' kinda confidence. Creating a brave new India is his eleven years' gift to Bharat Mata. Facebook Twitter Linkedin Email Disclaimer Views expressed above are the author's own.
