Chandigarh: Youth attacked by pet German Shepherd in Sector 21
The victim, Kartik Gandhi, a resident of Dera Bassi, sustained multiple injuries after being bitten several times by the dog, allegedly unleashed by its owner.
According to the complaint filed by Gandhi at the Sector-19 police station, he had parked his car near the residence of the dog owner while visiting his office in the vicinity. After concluding his work around 6.30 pm, he returned to his vehicle accompanied by a friend, Abhimanyu Bisnoi, when the dog was reportedly let loose by its female owner. The dog is said to have charged at both men. While Bisnoi managed to escape, Gandhi was bitten on both his wrists, ankle and right hip.
The complainant alleged that even as the attack unfolded, the dog owner, a security guard and another individual stood by and watched. He further stated that the guard mocked him, threatened him with further consequences, and asked him to 'park the car again near their house' in a menacing tone. Gandhi was rushed to GMSH, Sector 16, and subsequently to City Hospital in Sector 8-C due to increasing pain and semi-consciousness.
On Gandhi's complaint, police lodged an FIR under Sections 291 and 351(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.

Three arrested for stealing Rs 15,000 from donation boxes in Karnataka's Bantwal
MANGALURU: Three persons have been arrested for allegedly stealing money from a donation box within the Vittal police station limits. The accused have been identified as Twaheed (19), Ummar Farooq (18), and Mohammad Nabeel (18), all residents of Vittal Kasaba village in Bantwal. The complainant, D. Attack on pastor: Sulthan Bathery police register suo motu case
The Sulthan Bathery police have registered a case as part of the continuing investigation into the alleged manhandling attempt by a group of suspected Bajrang Dal activists against a pastor accusing him of conducting a door-to-door religious campaign for conversion in Wayanad district. The suo motu case was registered on August 2 after a video clip of the alleged attack, which took place on April 2, 2025 following allegations over forcible religions conversion attempts, resurfaced on various social media platforms. However, no formal complaint was raised by the threatened pastor till date. Police sources said efforts were on to identify the attackers involved in the incident. The suo motu case was registered under Sections 192 (wantonly giving provocation with the intent to cause riot), 351 (3) [criminal intimidation to cause death or grievous hurt] and Section 3(5) [criminal act done by several persons in furtherance of the common intention] of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A senior police officer associated with the ongoing investigation said the pastor was threatened by the gang when he reportedly went to a tribal settlement at Cherukad near Sulthan Bathery to invite children to a summer vacation camp on April 2. 'The statement of the tribespeople at the settlement would be recorded soon for more clarity,' he added. The incident comes to light at a time when the State is going through an intense political storm over the recent arrest and imprisonment of two catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh, alleging forcible religious conversion and human trafficking attempts. The Bajrang Dal and the BJP activists had drawn the criticisms of their political opponents and the church in the name of supporting the legal action.

Kerala panchayat booked over alleged mass killing of stray dogs
Last Updated: Kerala, Aug 3 (PTI) An animal rights activist from the Idukki-based animal rescue team filed a complaint against the Munnar panchayat authorities, alleging they had recently culled hundreds of stray dogs. Following the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the law. A video showing stray dogs being captured and transported in a panchayat vehicle went viral on social media and was aired by several TV channels. The complainant also alleged that the authorities attempted to secretly shift the carcasses from the site where they had been buried. 'We received information that the panchayat was making a secret move to relocate the carcasses. We filed the complaint based on that," she said on Sunday. A police officer confirmed that a case had been registered based on the complaint, although no concrete evidence had been found so far. The case has been filed against the driver of the panchayat vehicle. 'We have not obtained any evidence to substantiate the allegations yet. The investigation is ongoing," police said. The case has been registered under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (mischief by killing or maiming an animal) and provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The development comes at a time when the stray dog menace is a growing concern in Munnar, with the panchayat facing pressure and criticism from residents.
