White House to 'definitely' host UFC fight night on 4 July, says Dana White
The White House is set to host a mixed martial arts (MMA) event on July 4 next year, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the United States' founding, UFC president Dana White confirmed on Tuesday.
'It is definitely going to happen. I talked to him last night — 'him' being the president — and I'm flying out there at the end of this month. I'm going to sit down and walk him through all the plans and the renderings, and we're going to start deciding what he wants and doesn't want,' White told CBS, as quoted by AFP.

This will be the first time the combat sport, known for its intense and often bloody contests, will be staged at the heart of US political power.
UFC bouts take place inside an eight-sided cage, 'The Octagon,' where fighters use a range of techniques from various martial arts disciplines including boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and jiu-jitsu.
White, a long-time supporter of the president, revealed that the president's daughter, Ivanka Trump, will also be involved in planning the Independence Day spectacle. 'When (Trump) called me and asked me to do it, he said: 'I want Ivanka in the middle of this,'' White said.

The UFC has grown into the largest MMA organization in the world under White's leadership since he took over in 2001. Known for its no-holds-barred nature, with only a few prohibited moves, the sport has drawn both widespread popularity and controversy. Critics, including medical professionals, have expressed concern over the potential for brain injuries due to repeated head strikes, even as MMA gains greater mainstream acceptance.

CHENNAI: The Congress, CPM, CPI, Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) have announced they will boycott the 'At home' reception to be hosted by Governor RN Ravi on the Independence Day. TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai, in a statement, said his party is boycotting the reception, protesting the anti-Tamil attitude of the governor, and condemning him for forwarding the Bill on Kalaignar University to the President. VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan said the party has been boycotting the reception, protesting the successive governors' activities against state autonomy and the two-language policy, besides attempting to saffronise the antiquities of Tamil Nadu. CPM state secretary P Shanmugam said ever since assuming office, Ravi has been acting against federal principles and the interests of Tamils, besides the Constitution. Even after the SC defined the powers of the governors, Ravi has continued with his stance. CPI state secretary R Mutharasan expressed similar views. MMK president MH Jawahirullah said the governor has been clashing with the popular government in TN for unnecessary reasons, and hence, the party has decided to boycott the reception.

'A day to honour their grit': PM Modi marks Partition Horrors Remembrance Day
Ahead of the Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' and said that the day honours the grit and ability to face unimaginable loss and still find the strength to start afresh of countless people who witnessed the Partition of India and Pakistan. An undated handout image released by the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on June 13, 2017 and taken circa 1947/1948 shows a camp for displaced Indian Muslims next to Humayun's Tomb in New Delhi, during the period of unrest following the Partition of India and Pakistan. (Photo (Photo by Prakash Singh/various sources/AFP) Ahead of the Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday marked the 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day'. In a post on X, Modi said that the day honours the grit and ability of the witnesses and victims of the Partition to face unimaginable loss and still find the strength to start afresh. 'Many of those affected went on to rebuild their lives and achieve remarkable milestones. This day is also a reminder of our enduring responsibility to strengthen the bonds of harmony that hold our country together,' Modi further said. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Modi had announced August 14 in 2021 as the 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' with the stated objective to commemorate the victims and the suffering of the Partition. The day is meant to remind present and future generations about the episode. The day would keep 'reminding us of the need to remove the poison of social divisions, disharmony and further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony and human empowerment', Modi said at the time. In 1947, the independence of India was accompanied by the partition of the British India into a Hindu-majority India and a Muslim-majority Pakistan, sparking one of the largest human migrations in history as Muslims moved to Pakistan and non-Muslims moved from to India. The Partition led to widespread rioting and killings that killed hundreds of thousands. Around 8 million non-Muslims moved from Pakistan to India and around 7.5 million Muslims moved from India to Pakistan (both West and East Pakistan; East Pakistan got independence from Pakistan in 1971 and became Bangladesh), according to Government of India's estimates. 'The estimate of those killed has varied from 5,00,000 to over 10,00,000. The generally accepted figure stands at around 5,00,000,' the GoI noted in a document at the time. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The Partition of India was a result of the Pakistan movement waged by was rooted in the demand for a separate country for Muslims, led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the Muslim League on the basis of 'two-nation theory' that said that Hindus and Muslims were two nations and could not live together in one country. However, the idea of Pakistan or at least a separate country for Muslims had been there for decades before 1940s when Jinnah ratchetted up the campaign. The Partition Museum has said, 'The demand for a separate nation for Muslims had been raised by various Muslim leaders in the previous decades, most famously by Allama Iqbal at a Muslim League conference at Allahabad in 1930 where he articulated the idea of a Muslim nation within India. The term 'Pak-Stan' had been coined by Choudhry Rahmat Ali in the 1930s while he was studying at Cambridge University.'
