Eurovision fans left baffled as they spot huge movie star in performance
The Eurovision Song Contest hopefuls put on an impressive show on Saturday evening - but it wasn't the singing that had some fans talking. As 26 countries took to the stage in Basel, Switzerland, it was the last duo that had viewers at home saying the same thing.
While Albania's impressive vocals saw viewers praise their efforts, some couldn't unsee an uncanny resemblance with a popular cartoon character. Electro-pop duo Shkodra Elektronike's song Zjerm was a crowd favourite pre-vote. But one of the duo was continuously likened to a character from the Minions movies.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, one user wrote: "Albania is serving Gru #Eurovision2025 #eurovision," while putting a comparison of the singer and the cartoon. Another joked: "We got Gru performing for Albania #Eurovision2025."
A third added: "Good to see Gru representing Albania #Eurovision2025," while sharing an image of the animated villain. And it wasn't just the UK audience making the comparison, with a number of posts in other languages sharing the same view.
Some weren't keen on his addition, though. One user complained: "Albania - I'll take it without Gru and his random drumming and talk rapping #Eurovision2025 4/10"
Earlier in the show, fans were quick to comment on Tommy Cash's performance of Espresso Macchiato. He performed the catchy tune for Estonia. The performer, whose real name is Tomas Tammemets, performed in the Swiss capital of Basel after the 33-year-old singer was chosen to be the country's act following his Eesti Laul 2025 victory with his dance-pop hit.
The star has been performing since 2012 and already has a loyal fan base, but not all Eurovision viewers would have heard of him. And they quickly took to Twitter/X to let their feelings about his song be known.
One confused fan wrote: "Vocally could be better, but this is one of the funniest songs, artists and performances of the year and as a person needing coffee, I relate." Another added: "I love the funky Eurovision songs and Estonia gave me what Eurovision is all about!"
However, there was controversy following Israel's performance. Two people tried to rush the stage during Israeli singer Yuval Raphael's entry, organisers confirmed. A spokesman for SRG SSR said: 'At the end of the Israeli performance, a man and a woman tried to get over a barrier onto the stage.
'They were stopped. One of the two agitators threw paint and a crew member was hit. The crew member is fine and nobody was injured. The man and the woman were taken out of the venue and handed over to the police.'
It was claimed that the competition's bosses also chose to drown out the sounds of booing when she performed New Day Will Rise for a rehearsal on Friday night. Shortly after the performance on Saturday, bosses released a statement.
It read: "For the Eurovision Song Contest, the host broadcaster SRG SSR is working with the 'audio sweetening' method, which is common practice for major international productions. This process helps to harmonise the sound of the transitions between moderations, video clips and the individual acts and to create a consistent soundscape for the TV audience.
"It is used exclusively for the technical rounding off of the programme. This process is used equally and identically for all acts. The competition and its results are not affected in any way."

EastEnders confirms Sharon Watts' return in explosive new trailer - and she's not alone
EastEnders has sent fans wild with a new trailer confirming two legendary characters will be back on the Square very soon as they tease plenty of drama ahead... BBC has sent fans wild with a new EastEnders trailer, which confirms the return of two legendary characters. Viewers have been questioning when Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) would be making a return to the soap after she left before Martin Fowler's funeral. Leaving off screen, it was announced that she had gone off to visit Michelle in Australia, after struggling with the aftermath of Martin's death. Now, a rare trailer has confirmed Sharon will be back on screens soon, as well as Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan). Zoe made her shock return to the soap earlier this year during Ben Wadey's debut episode, but quickly fled to Barcelona after a close run in with mother Kat. Alfie then went off to try to find her, but unfortunately failed. It looks like she'll be making her return to Albert Square soon, however, and fans can't wait. In the trailer, Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) can be seen applying her signature red lipstick in the mirror, as her daughter Zoe can be seen getting out of a black cab. Halfway through, a small clip of Sharon standing under an umbrella with Patrick appears, as well as another with Freddie and Stacey standing laughing together. The drama picks up by the end of the snippet, as Kat and Zoe finally come face to face - leaving Kat looking stunned. The exact date of the pair's return hasn't been confirmed yet, but with a trailer being released, we can expect it to be very soon. Fans are overjoyed to see the duo back on the Square, as they took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to celebrate. "so much to unpack here, Zoe, SHARON, cinematic trailers being back," penned one excited fan. "Kat and Zoe!! and Sharon's back!!!" exclaimed another, while another nostalgic fan said: "Omg an Eastenders trailer are we in 2008!!!" "The return of Sharon's 2018 weave omg!!" said another, noticing her new hairstyle. "Flawless classic Eastenders trailer. The best show on television is back!!!" another tweet read. As well as Sharon and Zoe's return, the BBC soap have confirmed the return of a handful of other legendary characters. Max Branning, Ben Mitchell, Stuart Highway and Anthony Trueman will all be making their way back to the Square anytime soon... EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

JD Vance's awkward moment after pub owned by Meghan Markle florist refuses to serve him
Workers at a pub in the Cotswolds threatened to walk out after they discovered that American Vice President JD Vance had hoped to dine there during his trip to the UK A pub in the Cotswolds was almost faced with chaos after dinner reservations were made for Vice President JD Vance, according to reports. It's claimed the US vice president was expected to attend a gastro-pub in the area, but had to swiftly change plans. Vance has been on a family holiday with his wife, Usha Chilukuri, 39, and their three children. His visit to the UK had sparked controversy after locals hit out at him for making their life "hell" due to the multiple car police convoys and buzzing helicopters. And now, it's been reported that one group of staff took matters into their own hands. It's thought Vance had reservations at the Bull Pub, which entertained former US Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris last week. It comes after Vogue Williams quits drinking after blacking out drunk at lavish showbiz wedding. But workers were reportedly unimpressed with a planned visit from the Vance clan and threatened to walk out if his reservation was honoured. Speaking to The Daily Mail, Richard Fairhurst, who runs the local Charlbury community blog, said: "It's very widely believed locally [that staff refused to serve Vance] but The Bull are keeping schtum.' The showbiz blog Popbitch also wrote: "The mutinous staff all said they wouldn't come to work if they had to serve Vance and his wife. Facing staff grumbles and a barrage of negative press attention, The Bull refused his patronage." But Vance's camp played down the alleged incident, with a source saying: "The Bull was included as a potential option for lunch, but the family ultimately decided not to go. There was never any indication from the Bull that he or his family were not welcome." The Bull is owned by florist, Willow Crossley. Her floral designs were featured at the 2018 wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. Vance's UK visit comes as his friendship with The Apprentice star Tom Skinner is also in the public eye of late. The reality TV star's upcoming Strictly Come Dancing appearance has fans of the BBC show outraged. While some of Tom's followers enjoyed his no-nonsense posts on X, formerly known as Twitter, his controversial opinions have also landed him in hot water at times. He recently confirmed he had enjoyed a BBQ with the US Vice President after he had shown support for convicted felon Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Vance and Skinner had previously interacted on social media before meeting "in the beautiful English countryside" where the VP is holidaying. After hanging out, Tom wrote on X: "Unreal night with JD and his friends and family. He was a proper gent. Lots of laughs and some fantastic food. A brilliant night, one to tell the grandkids about." He also posted a picture of himself posing with Vance after a "couple of beers". He said: "Here is a pic of Me and Vice President @JDVance towards the end of the night after a few beers. "I'm overdressed in my suit, but when the VP invites you to a BBQ, you don't risk turning up in shorts and flip-flops. Cracking night in the beautiful English countryside with JD, his friends and family. Once in a lifetime. Bosh."
