Austin Butler Explains Bad Bunny Dance Moves

Buzz Feed16 hours ago
Earlier this month, Austin Butler went viral after he was spotted on stage during Bad Bunny's Puerto Rico residency, with the actor's questionable dance moves causing quite a stir on social media.
In case you missed it, Bad Bunny, real name Benito Ocasio, has two stage areas for these shows, and one of them — which is made to look like a casita — is both a performance area and a VIP section.
And as Benito was performing, Austin was caught on camera leaning nonchalantly against the casita with his arm crossed tightly across his body. But he isn't stationary. Instead, Austin is seemingly feeling the music as he dramatically sways his hips and smiles to himself.
Needless to say, people were left baffled by Austin's moves — with some observing that he looks 'scared to move,' while others theorizing that he's 'boring' at parties, and has "no rhythm."
But during his appearance on The Tonight Show on Tuesday, Austin explained that there was way more to the situation than meets the eye as he acknowledged that he did look pretty out of place.
First things first — and perhaps most importantly — the star admitted that he'd taken an edible shortly before the show. Secondly, Austin revealed that he had no idea that he was going to be on display during Benito's performance.
Speaking to Jimmy Fallon, the Oscar-nominated actor started out by explaining that he and Benito became friends after starring in their upcoming movie, Caught Stealing, together.
'We went to Benito's show, and we had lunch with him earlier in the day, and he was kind of telling us about the show, but I didn't realize what it was gonna be,' Austin began. 'How they have the main stage, and then I thought we were going to be in the audience, like, with everybody, and so somebody gave me an edible right before the show, and I thought that was a good idea at the time.'
'I ate the edible, and then it turns out we're in, like, a casita, a house that is basically the second stage that he comes out on,' the star continued, before sharing that he is shy, saying: 'I'm in an ironic job because I don't really like people singing 'Happy Birthday' to me, and suddenly I'm on stage with Bad Bunny and the edible is… Working.'
'It was wild, and it's like my brain is in two movies,' Austin went on. 'Because one, I think: 'I'm so proud of [Benito],' and I'm watching him going: 'Oh my god, look how much you mean to everyone here,' I'm falling in love with Puerto Rican culture, and the dancing, and everybody's so sexy and amazing… And then the other part of me is like: 'Don't dance.''
'Because you'll take attention away from him, this is his moment!' Austin explained. 'So I'm like: 'Hide!' My body's kind of saying 'hide,' but the music's so good, and it's in my bones at some point, so I'm wanting to dance but then the other voice is saying: 'Don't take attention away!' So I ended up just like swaying my hips and crossing my arms.'Jimmy then left Austin red-faced when he played a clip of his dancing before imitating his guest's moves from behind his desk.
'For whatever reason, every time I uncrossed my arms I felt like I was drawing attention to myself!' Austin sheepishly admitted, before adding that he was wary of looking like the 'sad Ben Affleck' meme, saying: 'I don't want to be the sad guy, but you also don't want to be the guy who's dancing crazy and drawing attention.'
Austin then asked Jimmy if he'd ever felt that way at a show, and Jimmy confessed that he did feel uncomfortable at Harry Styles' concert because he was so much older than most of the crowd. But Jimmy wasn't letting Austin get away that easy, quipping that no matter how uncomfortable he was, he didn't resort to pulling out the actor's edible-induced dance moves.

Jimmy Fallon Humorously Falls Down the Conspiracy Rabbit Hole Over Taylor Swift's New Album

Like a ton of other people today, Jimmy Fallon had some feelings about Taylor Swift's announcement of her upcoming new album, which you probably already know is called 'The Life of a Showgirl.' And taking a cue from Swift's very devoted fans, Fallon during his monologue on Tuesday's 'The Tonight Show' tried to figure out everything he could about the record from 'clues' Swift may have dropped — to the point he basically turned into a conspiracy freak. Amusingly, of course. How? Americans are like, 'Wait, there's good news out there. I don't know what to do with myself,'' Fallon joked. 'Seriously, we all need Taylor Swift right now, because without her music and her merchandise, we end up doing weird stuff, like starting a Labubu collection, stuff like that. You know, what are we doing? Yeah, following the announcement, Taylor's website immediately crashed, and then out of habit, so did Ticketmaster's,' Fallon continued. 'As of now, we don't know the exact release date, but we do know that no one else is releasing music that day. That's right. Taylor Swift announced her 12th album… and fans have already uncovered a lot of hidden clues,' Fallon said. At this, The Roots member Tariq 'Black Thought' Trotter weighed in, saying 'all that stuff is just random conspiracy theories.' 'I don't know Tariq. I mean, the clues are everywhere,' Fallon countered. 'Like, what?' Trotter asked. Fallon replied, 'Okay, so the release date, we know the number 12 will be involved, since it's her 12th album, and the announcement was shared on Instagram at 12:12am, on Tuesday, August 12. You follow. So the question is, which 12th? Well, their website says pre orders will ship before October 13. So you'd have to assume?' 'October 12,' Trotter asked. 'Exactly. You'd be wrong… because yesterday, on August 11, the Instagram account of Taylor Nation posted a carousel of 12 pics of Taylor, and when they posted it, Taylor's website crashed at exactly 9:12pm and that means, well, nothing by itself. But when you factor in that, Taylor Nation first teased the album with a different post, also made at exactly 9:12pm now there's two nine twelves, which points to September 12, and we haven't even, we haven't even talked about the Lady Gaga connection,' Fallon rambled on. 'Lady Gaga' Trotter asked. 'Okay,' Fallon continued, 'during the eras tour, the second to last song that played before Taylor came on stage was applause by Lady Gaga, which is followed by a countdown clock that started at two minutes and 24 seconds. Today is the 224th day of the year, August 12. And when did the song applause come out? That's right, August 12, 2013. Exactly 12 years ago today.' 'And what does that mean,' Trotter asked. 'Think about it. Tariq, I explained this theory at exactly 11:39 and what's Three plus nine?' Fallon said — obviously referring to the number 12. Austin Butler Explains Why He Didn't Want to Steal the Spotlight at Bad Bunny's Puerto Rico Residency

Just days after partying it up with Bad Bunny in Puerto Rico, Austin Butler stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday (Aug. 14) to talk about his experience. 'I've never been to Puerto Rico before. I fell in love with the culture. The food is insane. The water is so warm. The people are amazing, and we went to his show,' Butler — who was in town with director Darren Aronofsky to promote the upcoming Caught Stealing movie — told his host before getting into all the juicy details. To see what he means to Puerto Rican culture, but also the actual show, how they structure it,' Butler says of Bad Bunny's 30-day residency taking place at El Choli. 'I thought we were going to be in the audience with everyone. Someone gave me an edible right before the show, and I thought it was a good idea at the time. Then it turns out we're in a casita that's basically the second stage … suddenly I'm on stage with Bad Bunny and the edible is working. It was wild.' He explains that although videos of him in the casita went viral on social media, he tried to keep a low profile while enjoying the concert. 'My brain is in two movies: I'm so proud of him and falling in love with Puerto Rican culture, and everyone is so sexy and amazing. The other part of me is like, 'Don't dance because you'll take attention from him. This is his moment.' So, my body is saying to hide, but the music is so good and in my bones at that time, that I ended up swaying my hips while crossing my arms.' Earlier in the interview, he talked about Bad Bunny's character in Caught Stealing, set to hit theaters on Aug. 29. 'I've seen him in Bullet Train and he was wonderful in that,' he shares. '[In Caught Stealing] he plays a Puerto Rican gangster. He's tough, he has a red beard. He dyed his hair. He plays a guy named Colorado.' Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show receives record audience spike thanks to Fox News guest

The Tonight Show landed its biggest audience in years as Jimmy Fallon hosted Fox News personality Greg Gutfeld last Thursday. The episode drew in 1.7 million viewers, according to Nielsen live-plus-same day figures. It was the program's most-watched 'regular' broadcast — meaning not airing directly after a major sporting event — since December 19, 2023, when a post-The Voice finale episode attracted 1.74 million viewers. Some of Thursday's viewers may be attributed to the night's lead guest, the Jonas Brothers; however, it's Gutfeld's segment that boasts by far the most viewers on the show's YouTube channel (990,000 at the time of writing). During the highly anticipated interview, Fallon and Gutfeld steered clear of politics, instead bantering about their first drunken meeting at a bar in New York City. 'This is hilarious — we've met before,' Fallon opened with. 'Yes, you have no memory of it. Which is understandable, because we were wasted,' Gutfeld responded before launching into a long-winded anecdote about their meeting. The host of Fox's politically charged comedy panel show, Gutfeld!, alluded to his then-upcoming appearance with Fallon last week, saying it would be the 'biggest crossover since the Harlem Globetrotters visited the Golden Girls.' 'Unlike the other guys, Jimmy sitting with me proves he's not afraid of upsetting his peers or afraid of my mesmerizing charm,' he added. Fallon has shown his willingness to be pragmatic about humoring the right in the past, infamously hosting Donald Trump in September 2016, two months before his victory over Hillary Clinton, and ruffling the New York property tycoon's blonde hair to check whether it was real. The gesture alienated some of The Tonight Show's audience, and Fallon later expressed regret over it, telling The New York Times in 2017: 'I didn't do it to humanize him. I almost did it to minimize him. I didn't think that would be a compliment: 'He did the thing that we all wanted to do.'' Trump himself was angered over Fallon's 'whimpering' attempts to distance himself from the interview, rebuking him on Twitter: 'Be a man Jimmy!' By contrast, Trump has long been a champion of Gutfeld, posting a Fox press release celebrating his high ratings on Truth Social last September and writing in all-caps: 'GUTFELD! NOTCHES LARGEST AUDIENCE IN PROGRAM HISTORY WITH NEARLY FIVE MILLION VIEWERS DURING INTERVIEW WITH FORMER PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP.' When fellow late-night host Stephen Colbert's show was axed last month, the president wrote: 'I absolutely love that Colbert' got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.' Gutfeld likewise gloated over The Late Show's demise, commenting on Fox: 'This was an 'institution,' and rather than put someone in his place they just said, 'We're closing up.' Imagine being a chef. You're such a bad chef that they cancel food… It's so obvious. You can't do a comedy show and a sermon at the same time.'
