Ex-Eagles Player Pushes Back on TJ Watt Trade Idea

TJ Watt's search for a new deal is ongoing and forcing the Pittsburgh Steelers to pick up the phone to hear trade proposals from teams in the league. The Philadelphia Eagles recently popped up as a popular link to the situation for multiple reasons.
Howie Roseman isn't one to shy away from considering a blockbuster deal, and he likes to build in the trenches. Knowing those two factors, there's an assumption that the Eagles could at least make a call to inquire about Watt's true availability as his situation stretches out without getting resolved.
As the situation continues to play out, former Eagles defensive lineman Hugh Douglas recently thought about a potential deal getting done between the Eagles and the Steelers. When a hypothetical framework of Nolan Smith and a late-round pick in exchange for Watt was tossed out on the airwaves, Douglas pushed back on the idea.

"It doesn't play into the defense is a luxury, not a necessity, situation," the former Eagle said.
"The reason I say it like that is this: You're going to have a high-priced older player that has a Hall of Fame resume, no question about it, but Nolan has a tremendous upside as of right now. He's much cheaper."

Linebacker T.J. Watt #90 of the Pittsburgh Steelers pumps up the crowd during the third quarter of an NFL football game against the Denver Broncos, at Empower Field at Mile High on September 15, 2024 in Denver, Colorado. MoreGetting great value is the approach Douglas wants the Eagles to continue taking. It's hard to do that when the Eagles would have to pay assets to get Watt in addition to paying him a major contract extension to keep him happy and on the field.
"You're getting more bang for your buck with a lesser-paid defense that was ranked higher than the Pittsburgh Steelers," Douglas added.
The former first-round pick out of Wisconsin has dominated offensive lines since 2017. With 121 games under his belt, Watt has combined 462 tackles with 126 for a loss. He has generated over 100 sacks, setting a record in 2021 with 22.5 in a single season. He was the Defensive Player of the Year at the time.

There's no question that Watt would be an upgrade over Nolan Smith, who just wrapped up his second season in the NFL. With just 10 starts in 33 games, Smith's production doesn't jump off the page.
Still, the Eagles are thrilled with his upside and look forward to what he can bring to the table now that there are several pass rushers who left the building in Philadelphia.

Kansas City Fans Make Prediction for Chiefs Player
Kansas City Fans Make Prediction for Chiefs Player originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After the Kansas City Chiefs missed out on a historic Super Bowl three-peat, expectations are high that they will be more motivated than ever to win another title in the 2025 season. Advertisement Sure enough, much of the focus is on Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce as the new campaign approaches. Mahomes himself said following the Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles that it was "worst thing in the world" and that it's "going to hurt for a while." The Chiefs QB did add, however, that the loss will "motivate" him to be "even better" for the rest of his career. As for Kelce, his future in the NFL was a major storyline early in the offseason, with talks about a potential retirement hovering over him. Nonetheless, he decided to return for his 13th season in the pros. While it remains to be seen if he will play beyond the 2025 campaign, the 35-year-old tight end emphasized that he's focused on helping the Chiefs win the Super Bowl again and nothing else. Advertisement Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (15) and Chiefs tight end Travis Burke-Imagn Images While the attention is on Mahomes and Kelce, though, Chiefs fans have plenty of expectations for the other members of the team, including defensive end George Karlaftis. After a season that saw Karlaftis record eight sacks and 35 tackles, the Kansas City faithful are certainly hoping to see the 24-year-old elevate his game. On Friday, the Chiefs asked their followers to predict how many sacks Karlaftis will register in the 2025 season, and fans didn't hesitate to share their responses. "Double digits," a fan simply said. Another one had a similar response, sharing, "10 plus." "30 Sacks," a supporter added, while a fourth follower had a more realistic answer, writing, "13.5." Advertisement A social media user stated, "George is a beast and I say he gets 11 sacks this season!" "Definitely gonna rack up 10+ sacks," a poster confidently remarked. In his three-year NFL career so far, Karlaftis has only recorded double digits in sacks once, which was during the 2023 season when he tallied 10.5 sacks. In his first year, he had six sacks. Sure enough, Karlaftis has the ability to be a defensive star for the Chiefs, and if he lives up to the fans' expectations, it's not hard to see the team fighting for the Super Bowl title once again. WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark has also revealed before that she is a huge fan of the Kansas City franchise, noting that she has been a fan of the team ever since she was a child. Of course, there's also Taylor Swift, who has been all-out in her support of the Chiefs ever since she started dating Kelce in 2023. Rebilas-Imagn Images / Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY On Wednesday, another Chiefs fan made his NFL allegiance known while appearing on the "New Heights" podcast of Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce. Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, who starred in the movie "F1," joined the podcast of the Kelce brothers and discussed a variety of topics — including his love for sports movies. During the discussion, Pitt opened up about how much he loves the Chiefs, having grown up in Missouri. Advertisement "I love the Eagles-Chiefs rivalry," Pitt stated, before saying, "You know I'm a Chiefs [fan]. I'm a Missouri boy." Travis Kelce, for his part, was happy to hear Pitt's admission and even sent a bold message to the "Moneyball" actor. The Chiefs TE promised Pitt that he and the team would do better in the 2025 season after they let him down in New Orleans. It remains to be seen how far Kelce and the Chiefs will go in the upcoming season. Their 2024 campaign ended in heartbreak after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl back in February. Making matters worse, the loss cost them what would have been the first-ever Super Bowl three-peat. Advertisement That being said, Pitt and the rest of the Kansas City faithful will certainly be watching with hopeful eyes as the Chiefs aim to reclaim their Super Bowl glory. Brandon Graham Issues Critical Advice to Eagles After Super Bowl
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. After Brandon Graham stood at the Championship Parade podium in Philadelphia with two Vince Lombardi Trophies next to him, the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive end decided to ride off into the sunset. He called it a career and left the league as a champion. Since Graham won the Super Bowl with the Eagles the first time around, he experienced the highs and lows that came with winning. Knowing what he knows now, Graham issued some public advice for next year's Eagles team as they look to defend their status as Super Bowl Champions. "You got to have a cut off soon, make sure your workouts are still, you know you're still working out and you're not just taking meetings and taking all of these different things that take you away from ball because of what you did the year before," Graham said on the 94WIP Afternoon Show in Philadelphia. Read More: Ex-Eagles Player Pushes Back on TJ Watt Trade Idea "Because as soon as this year comes up, and we not going like we need to go, it's going to be all that, 'Super Bowl hangover.'" Before the 2017 NFL season, the Eagles didn't have any Super Bowls to show for in franchise history. After defeating the New England Patriots to win their first Super Bowl, Graham and the Eagles were riding a high heading into the 2018 NFL season. Brandon Graham #55 of the Philadelphia Eagles warms up prior to a game against the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field on November 05, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Brandon Graham #55 of the Philadelphia Eagles warms up prior to a game against the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field on November 05, 2023 in Philadelphia, was a lot of talk about the Eagles turning into a dynasty after dethroning Tom Brady and the Patriots. Philadelphia believed they were next. Reality ended up hitting them hard as they experienced a true Super Bowl hangover. In 2018, the Eagles achieved a record of 9-7. They made the playoffs as a Wild Card after coming second in the NFC East, and they took on a tough Chicago Bears team in the first round. The Eagles barely squeezed by the Bears, winning 16-15, thanks to the famous double-doink field goal miss by Chicago. Read More: Eagles' Saquon Barkley Sends Clear Message To Dallas Cowboys Once the Eagles go to the Divisional Round to face the New Orleans Saints, they had a hot start in the first half, but ended up losing 20-14, getting eliminated in the playoffs. While the Eagles nearly punched their ticket to the NFC Championship for the second season in a row, the feeling was a lot different that time around. They didn't rattle off the confidence of a dynasty. Their follow-up season, which resulted in a 9-7 performance, with a Wild Card loss, proved that major changes were needed. Fast forward to 2025, and the Eagles are back on top. Graham won't be in the building to help guide the team to a different destination this time around, but his message is important. Fortunately for the Eagles, they seem to hold a motivated mindset still, even after winning it all. For more Philadelphia Eagles and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports
