I'm an older mum and don't think women should have kids over 40 – a school gate comment floored me, don't do it

MOTHERHOOD is often painted as a picture-perfect experience, but for one woman who became a mum in her 40s, the reality has been far more complicated.
Sharing her story on TikTok, she opened up about how a comment at the school gates from the other mums left her feeling deeply uncomfortable.

Sheena, who is known as ' sheena_tiktokreviews ' on TikTok, captioned the video: 'Don't do it…. Don't even think about it…. #kids #kidsafter40 #over40 #over50.'
Reflecting on the early days of motherhood, she explained that 'when you have kids' at the age of 40 'it's lovely'.
However, as her children grew older, she began to face unexpected challenges - and one moment stands out above the rest.
Now she is at the age when she will head to the school playground to pick up her kids and other parents will ask how old she is, to which she will reply 48.
But she then reveals that other parents will then end up saying that she is the same age as their mum.
Sheena says: 'Do you think that makes me feel good about myself? I'm going to tell you now, it doesn't. I'm the same age as your kid's grandma.'
Her honesty has sparked a debate online, with some praising her for speaking out while others argue that age shouldn't determine a woman's ability to be a good parent.
Within 24 hours her video gained 84,000 views and 483 comments.
One wrote: 'I am 45 and my kids are middle school age. I am exhausted. Have kids when you are young and have energy!'
A second added: 'Ummm I had my son at 41, I'm turning 44 in a couple of weeks and about to start trying for a second! …. Just lie, they won't know!'
The Playdate Payment Debate: Fair or Bonkers?
While a third commented: 'I didn't plan on having my second at 44. It happened.
'My body believed it could do it. I wouldn't change my younger years.'
But someone else said: 'Agree. My mom had me at 41. It isn't a good idea.'
To which another person responded: 'My parents had me when they were older.

'Never had any problems.
'It is a more personal thing where you might feel older than other parents at your children's school.
"And I agree, 41 now is different to 41 back in the days.
'We are entering an ageing population, low birth rates due to cost of living and people choosing to have kids later on in life.'
Secrets of a school headteacher
By the Secret Schoolteacher
I STARTED working in schools in 1996, when parents respected teachers and left us alone to do our jobs. Not any more.
Nowadays parents think nothing of barging into schools to read teachers the riot act if their precious child has been told off, or they'll send angry emails in the middle of the night. Warning — it doesn't make you popular.
I've worked in all manner of schools across the south west of England, from state schools to private, and I can tell you that right now many teachers are dreading the start of the new school year.
They're braced for tears and tantrums, not just from their pupils but from their parents too.
Believe me, if you are an annoying parent it will spread round the staff room like wildfire.
So whether it's your kid's first day at a new school, or they're moving up a year, these are the things you do that drive teachers crazy . . .
Parents often turn up at the school gates complaining how frazzled they are, moaning that teachers must have had a nice long holiday while their six weeks stuck with the kids was the worst.
Nothing could be further from the truth. For the first two weeks I'll almost certainly have been struck down by a lurgy which always seems to strike on the first day of the holiday.
The next two weeks might have been an actual holiday, just like the average Brit takes in the summer, followed by two weeks of frantic lesson planning and administration.
Also, consider that I've probably been working over 50 hours per week during term time. Contrary to popular opinion, we don't clock off at 3pm.
Instead, we're roped into all manner of after-school activities and meetings before going home to do marking and more lesson planning. Please don't turn up and make sarcastic remarks about our 'six weeks off'.
We won't be happy.

The reason why the launch day of Meghan Markle's new rose wine has fans of Princess Diana rolling their eyes yet again

Earlier this week, Meghan Markle made the grand announcement she would soon be launching her lifestyle brand's first ever wine. The Duchess of Sussex, who revealed her love of a tipple on her recent Netflix show, has unveiled her first foray into the market with a Napa Valley rosé wine. It is sourced from the famous region of California, up the west coast from her Montecito mansion, and has been described as having 'soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality and a lasting finish'. The glossy announcement, which was shared via the official As Ever Instagram account, came with a sun-drenched image of a bottle elegantly styled poolside, flanked by two glasses and ripe apricots. But the piece of information about the wine that piqued the interest of most royal watchers was not the 'bespoke blend' of flavours, it was the date they would be hitting shelves. Described by the brand as 'launching just in time for summer entertaining', it will be available to buy on July 1. However there is just one major problem, as was quickly pointed out by hundreds of people on social media, because that is the day Princess Diana would have turned 64. Royal commentator Victoria Arbiter replied to the post on social media with exasperation by simply writing: 'July 1st, Diana's birthday...'. A slew of royal fans also complained at the timing, with one claiming Meghan was 'literally dining out on Diana's memory', and another said the choice was 'tacky'. And although the price tag of the wine is yet to be confirmed, another royal watcher claimed: 'She is using Diana to flog cheap wine.' 'Nothing if not predictable by now,' said another, as one chimed in 'she is incredibly tone-deaf'. The Sussexes have long shown little respect for the tightly regulated royal calendar and would regularly make news while other members of the family were on engagements - a big royal no-no. Meghan didn't mention the late royal in her post announcing the wine, but the Duchess has previously spoken about her late mother-in-law, describing her as 'someone I wish I'd had the chance to know'. To celebrate the day she was born, July 1 is often used by friends and family of Diana to share memories and talk about her impact. Last year Sarah Ferguson shared a touching tribute to her 'dear friend' and former sister-in-law by calling her a 'kindred spirit' and 'pillar of light and love'. And a few years prior the Daily Mail's celebrated royal correspondent Richard Kay and close friend of Princess Diana published his own heartbreaking tribute to her legacy. The Duchess of York accompanied the photograph with a touching message, in which she described her friend as 'a pillar of light and love' Her birthday was still such an important date that it managed to get both of her sons, now sadly estranged, to one of her favourite spots for reflection in 2021. Despite having barely spoken to each other and having an 'incredibly strained' relationship after two years of rows since the couple's decision to emigrate to America, both William and Harry attended the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace. They had gathered, along with Diana's brother and sisters, to unveil a new statue of the Princess 24 years after her death in that horrific car crash in Paris in 1997. William and Harry put aside their personal differences and stood shoulder-to-shoulder to unveil the bronze statue of their mother. In a very rare joint statement released that afternoon, the brothers said: 'Today, on what would have been our Mother's 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character – qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better.' However, it seems this year Meghan will be marking the poignant family moment by frantically doing her best to make a big profit on her new wine. Could she even be planning a Diana-inspired social media post that could drive engagement on the big business day? That would be ironic as although Diana did indeed have a well-stocked cellar at Kensington Palace, she scarcely drank and by the late 90s was virtually teetotal. Meghan has used Diana to promote her brand before, but she has been more sly. In May she reposted a photo on her company's official Instagram page of a fan showing off they had made 'As Ever' shortbread cookies in a (you guessed it) Diana-themed tea tin. Meghan knows that Diana's star power has continued long after her death, and that any mention or reference to her tends to draw eyeballs. Over the years she had repeatedly dressed similarly to some of Diana's most iconic outfits and looks. In February she coyly posted a video of her in a purple Northwestern sweatshirt, which was the same one Diana wore regularly in public the year before her death in 1996. The post quickly went viral and was carried in newspapers and websites all over the world. One royal fan claimed on social media that the decision to launch the wine on the late royal's birthday showed she was 'desperate to be linked to Diana'. And although Meghan claimed in her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey: 'I didn't grow up knowing much about the Royal Family . . . It wasn't something we followed'. But her childhood best friend Ninaki Priddy, who was the Maid of Honour at her first wedding to producer Trevor Engelson, remembers things differently. In February, Meghan coyly posted a video of herself in a purple Northwestern sweatshirt, which was the same one Diana wore regularly in public the year before her death in 1996 Priddy shared a picture of Meghan posing outside Buckingham Palace as a child and said: 'She was always fascinated by the Royal Family. She wants to be Princess Diana 2.0.' She added: 'She had one of Princess Diana's books [Diana: Her True Story] on her bookshelf, and even when she was with Trevor she told me she wanted to go and stay in London for at least a month. I know she used to love The Princess Diaries films.' Her account was backed up by the mother of Suzy Ardakani, one of the Duchess's high school friends, who has described how she taped Diana's wedding and, years later, would watch it with her daughter and Meghan. And the acclaimed author of Her True Story Andrew Morton, who wrote it secretly with her help, claimed that Meghan was devastated when she died. He wrote in Us Weekly in 2018: 'Meghan and her friends watched the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, in early September 1997, tears coursing down their cheeks.' 'According to family friends, she was intrigued by Diana, not just for her style, but for her independent humanitarian mission, seeing her as a role model.' There are other accounts that claim Meghan looked up to Diana when she became a member of The Firm. Diana owned a collection of aquamarines, including a striking emerald-cut cocktail ring Diana's 1987 look appeared to be a source of inspiration for Meghan's Trooping the Colour ensemble in 2018, where she wore a Carolina Herrera dress with a similar neckline and hue In 1995, Diana wowed in a strappy scarlet dress by Catherine Walker for a swanky dinner in Argentina. Meghan opted for a Carolina Herrera dress with a similar neckline at the 2021 Salute To Freedom Gala in New York A former member of staff who worked for the Sussexes told the royal author Tom Quinn: 'She once said, "What Diana started I want to finish,' and we took that to mean she wanted to become a sort of globetrotting champion of the poor and the marginalised.' Though they prefaced that they didn't mean it 'in a critical way', the insider added that Meghan had wanted to follow in the footsteps of her late mother-in-law, who was known for her extensive humanitarian and charity work. But the Duchess' philanthropic ambitions were apparently only a 'part-time' commitment, the former staff member told Quinn. 'She has managed to do this to some extent, but she really wanted to do it as a princess and with the full backing of the royal family but on a part-time basis,' they said. Princess Diana's acquaintance, Tina Brown, who had lunch with her just weeks before her death, also wrote in her 2022 book The Palace Papers that Meghan looked to Diana as a role model. The bestselling author wrote: 'Harry, who had always chafed at the hierarchy himself, was the last person to want to tell her to slow down. 'They were both now drunk on a shared fantasy of being instruments of global transformation who, once married, would operate in the celebrity stratosphere once inhabited by Princess Diana. 'Meghan couldn't and wouldn't bide her time to get there. She was 36. This was her big break.'

Marvel 'in talks with major Hollywood director' to mastermind the hotly-anticipated X-Men reboot - amid exciting news about its release date

Thunderbolts* mastermind Jake Schreier is believed have been lined-up by Marvel to direct the highly-anticipated upcoming reboot of The X-Men. After the commercial struggles of films such as Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants half a decade ago, the X-Men are yet to make a return. But beloved characters such as Professor X, Cyclops and Iceman could be set to grace cinema again in 2028 with a new movie reportedly in the works. Marvel is trusting none other than Jake, 43, with taking the franchise forward, according to Variety, as they are said to be working on a deal to lock him in. While talks are reportedly still at an 'early' stage, the director is thought to have already turned down other opportunities in the wake of Marvel's interest. As well as making his Marvel debut with Thunderbolts*, Jake is known for having worked on the adaptation of John Green's novel Paper Towns, starring Cara Delevingne, and 2021's Robot and Frank. MailOnline has contacted Jake's representatives for comment. Rumours had circulated that Black Panther director Ryan Coogler would be directing the superhero epics, but he squashed such speculation in an interview with Metro. After being asked about the possibility of him directing the new film, the 39-year-old quipped: 'No, no, no. Jake (Schreier) is directing that.' Addressing the future of the franchise, President of Marvel Kevin Feige, 52, said 'it's a dream come true' to see the movies' return. 'I think you will see that continues in in our next few movies withy some X-Men players that you might recognise,' he revealed. 'Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X- Men. 'Again, it's one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.' Jake reportedly shot to the top of Marvel's wish-list as director after Thunderbolts* became their best-reviewed movie in years. Although the 2025 started slower than expected at the box office with $76million, the company hopes that the excitement surrounding the return of the X-Men could bring commercial success. It's perhaps unsurprising that Marvel have decided to stay in-house for the new X-Men film given how often the company has rewarded directors with big assignments. After masterminding Captain America sequels, Anthony and Joseph Russo were trusted with taking on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. And more recently, Matt Shakman was handed the directing gig on The Fantastic Four: First Steps after leading forward WandaVision. The X-Men movies began in the 1990s with an initial trilogy consisting of X-Men (2000), X2 (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand three years in 2006. The phenomenal success of the originals brought further films, with three spin-offs released in due course. Three Wolverine films followed, as well as two Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool movies, which debuted to much commercial success amongst others. In 2019, Marvel regained the rights to the X-Men franchise after Disney's acquisition of Fox, leading to a number of films cancelled as they moved the films in a new direction. Marvel later reworked one of the films, which had been in the production stage, with Deadpool & Wolverine released in 2024.

Inside Jake Paul's stunning new $39m Georgia ranch... bought with earnings from blockbuster Mike Tyson fight

YouTuber-turned-boxing star Jake Paul has bought a sprawling, $39million ranch in Georgia with the money he made by beating Mike Tyson. Paul, 28, took on Tyson in a controversial, money-spinning clash fight back in November. He is more than three decades younger than the former heavyweight champion. He claimed to have made $40m from the win at AT&T Stadium and the former YouTuber later revealed that that he has wanted to buy a ranch for the past 15 years. He has now snapped up a historic plantation that covers 5,746 acres and boasts a 30-acre duck pond, 20-acre eagle lake and five miles of spring creeks. The ranch, in Decatur County, Georgia, is known as Southlands Plantation and was originally listed for $42.5m. It's been described as 'the land ownership equivalent to owning an NFL team' and is believed to be one of the most expensive private land sales in the state's history. Paul admitted the plantation is a little bit bigger than what he wanted but said he knew he had to buy it. Decatur County is deep in the south of Georgia, near the border with Florida, with the Appalachian Mountains only a stone's throw away. The main house includes eight bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms, with a manager's house, several guest homes and a barn also on site. The ranch is also home to a range of wildlife, including deer and turkeys, while it also offers the chance for horseback riding, hunting and watersports. Paul, the younger brother of YouTuber-turned-WWE star Logan Paul, has won 11 of his 12 professional fights. He faces Julio Cesar Chavez Jr on June 28. 'I would say Chavez is most likely going to be the toughest opponent (I have faced yet), the most experienced, literally the most amount of fights out of all of my opponents,' Paul told DAZN. 'He's a former world champion which I haven't faced a former boxing world champion other than Mike Tyson but obviously Mike was older, Chavez is still in his thirties so I think this is gonna be the toughest one.' 'The Problem Child' has also been linked with a sensational fight against Anthony Joshua and Paul recently lifted the lid on their social media exchanges. When asked about his relationship with AJ following a phone call earlier this year, Paul said: 'It was all nice [speaking to AJ on the phone]. 'You know, we've been cordial. He DM'd me today, like saying "lol" to one of my training clips, and then I sent him a "lol" of him getting knocked out.' According to Paul, the exchange was all in good fun but it nevertheless highlighted a simmering tension between the two stars. 'I guess we're kind of s*** talking behind the scenes a bit,' he continued. 'But I have a lot of love for Anthony Joshua. I think this type of stuff is funny, and he's a great guy.' He added: 'A fight between us would be awesome, and I do believe I can win.'
