'Eyes of Wakanda' Animated Series Showrunner Teases 'Giant Spy-Espionage Story' Across MCU History
Todd Harris, showrunner of the upcoming Marvel Disney+ animated miniseries Eyes of Wakanda , has given some insight into the ambitious project, teasing the show's unique setting that spans different Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) time periods and its cast of Wakandan warriors.
Speaking during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Harris describes the upcoming animated series as a combination of his passion for both history and Marvel. 'I really liked the idea of everyone's view of history,' he said, 'The story starts off during the end of the Western Bronze Age, and that spark sets off this giant spy-espionage story that reverberates through time…. You get Wakanda-grade James Bond, and sometimes a Jane Bond, with the backdrop of all the awesomeness that is Wakanda.'
Harris also teased some of the warriors featured in the show, although he understandably revealed his desire to keep as many details a secret as possible. These characters include the Lion, voiced by Cress Williams (Black Lightning) and Noni, voiced by model Winnie Harlow. Princess and the Frog Disney legend Anika Noni Rose will also lend her voice in an unspecified role, with Harris teasing that she 'came in like an archangel and just blew the scene away.' Another notable name in the show's roster of voice talent is House of the Dragon star Steve Toussaint, who 'plays a jaded agent who is jaded for all the right reasons'.
According to Harris, Eyes of Wakanda will be 'anthology adjacent', comprising a collection of short stories set in different MCU time periods and telling a continuous narrative, with the showrunner teasing 'a globe-trotting adventure'. 'There's a couple of surprises because part of the opportunity here is to sprinkle little pieces of history and go, 'I didn't know that happened.' Part of it is holding a mirror up to some historical theories and some historical facts and some historical preconceived notions,' he concluded.
Eyes of Wakanda will debut on Disney+ on 6 August 2025, and will consist of four episodes.

'Fantastic Four: The First Steps' Final Trailer Drops Comics-Accurate Catchphrase
Family is front and centre of the latest trailer for Fantastic Four: The First Steps , featuring bonding moments sprinkled amid all the superhero action, alongside a first look at a certain someone. The celebration of family is established in the opening scene of the clip, with Vanessa Kirby's Sue Storm going, 'Family — it's about connecting to something bigger than yourself.' As baby Franklin Richards is officially revealed, she continues: 'Whatever life throws at us, we'll face it together. As a family,' and the attention turns to various displays of the group's dynamics, including Johnny Storm (Joseph Quin, Stranger Things 4 ) giving The Thing a fist-bump, and the Human Torch's quip about taking back 'every single bad thing I've been saying about you' to Reed ( Pedro Pascal, The Last of Us ). And speaking of The Thing, played by The Bear 's Ebon Moss-Bachrach in the pic, the character finally gets time with his catchphrase from the comic books. Well, sort of — he responds with a 'Oh yeah!' after Johnny yells, 'Is it clobbering time?'. It's not all fluff, though, for two threatening forces are looming in the background: Julia Garner's Silver Surfer, and the terrifying Galactus (Ralph Ineson, Harry Potter films), who has also been turned into a popcorn bucket (via a separate trailer). Indeed, the greatest strength of Marvel's first family is each other, especially since Franklin has yet to grow into the powerful reality warper with god-like abilites that he is in the comics. The mutant is expected to play a role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film that will reunite this cast with the wider characters of the MCU, including Robert Downey Jr, who will play longtime Fantastic Four nemesis, Victor von Doom aka Dr Doom. Fantastic Four: The First Steps marks the first live-action debut of Franklin and Shalla-Bal, the female version of the Silver Surfer portrayed by Garner. Matthew Wood, known for voicing General Grevious across various Star Wars projects, joins the cast as robot H.E.R.B.I.E, with Natasha Lyonne ( Orange is the New Black ), John Malkovich ( In the Line of Fire ), and Paul Walter-Hauser ( Cobra Kai ) also starring. Matt Shakman directed a screenplay written by Josh Friedman and Eric Pearson. The first film in Phase Six of the MCU is scheduled to release on 25 July. 'Deadpool' Director Wants To Helm 'X-Men' Movie
Almost 10 years after his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with the critically acclaimed 2016 anti-hero blockbuster Deadpool , director Tim Miller is ready to return to the superhero feature film scene, with ambitious goals to helm the MCU's X-Men movie. This comes after his stint making two acclaimed adult animated anthology series: Netflix's Love, Death & Robots and Amazon Prime Video's Secret Level , with the director hoping to help shake up the superhero genre once again, like he did with Deadpool . Deadpool (2016) 'I think that Marvel has this secret weapon they haven't been able to unveil yet, which is the whole X-Men universe, which is what got me into comics.' Miller explained during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 'The X-Men are my favourite characters. I wrote Kevin Feige, and I'm like, 'If there was ever anything that you would let me do in the Marvel Universe, please, the X-Men would be it.'' Miller would definitely be a good fit for the X-Men universe, too, as he was previously developing a film based on the X-Men #143 comic at Fox before its merger with Disney ended the plans, a film which, according to Miller, would have been ' Home Alone meets Alien '. X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) His ambitions aren't limited to the MCU either, as Miller also has plans to enter the DC universe. 'If DC ever gets around to doing The Authority, that's my favourite comic ever — it's the Justice League if they killed people. I think there's a lot of room left, a lot of different stories to tell,' he added. In any case, Miller has no plans to slow down and is more than ready to continue making feature films for years to come. 'I've got to be the luckiest nerd on the planet. I have nothing to complain about… I didn't expect to have my own studio. I didn't expect to do a feature, much less one that would be successful as Deadpool … and then to be able to do Love Death + Robots, which is probably my achievement I'm most proud of. Also, I'm old — but I'm not done yet.' Kevin is a reformed PC Master Race gamer with a penchant for franchise 'duds' like Darksiders III and Dead Space 3 . Marvel's 'Vision Quest' Spin-Off Beams Up 'Star Trek' Writing Team
Marvel's mysterious TV project Vision Quest , a spin-off series based on 2021's WandaVision , has gained a team of veteran Star Trek writers and production staff. The series, which has been in development for over a year, will be helmed by Terry Matalas, who was the showrunner and writer of seasons two and three of 2022's Star Trek: Picard , and also wrote season 3 of 2003's Star Trek: Enterprise . Matalas isn't the lone Star Trek talent either, as he is set to reunite with fellow franchise writers for the upcoming series. WandaVision (2021) As detailed by Vision Quest's listing on the Writers Guild of America website, Matalas will be joined by co-executive producers Chris Monfette, Cindy Appel, and supervising producer Matt Okumura, who all worked on the latter half of Star Trek: Picard . Rounding off the team is co-executive producer Michael A. Taylor, who wrote episodes of the 1993 sci-fi series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , 1995's Star Trek: Voyager , and 2004's Battlestar Galactica . With such a strong team of sci-fi talent, things are looking up for the elusive Marvel series. Filming for Vision Quest began earlier in the year at Pinewood Studios in London, and although plot details have not been revealed, the series would most likely follow after the events of WandaVision and be centred around Paul Bettany's White Vision. Additionally, the series is also set to include the return of some familiar faces, such as James Spader's Ultron from 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron , alongside Raza from the original 2008 Iron Man film, the leader of the Ten Rings terrorist group who kidnaps Tony Stark in the beginning of the movie which led to the creation of the Mark 1 suit. No confirmed release window has been announced for Vision Quest , although the series is expected to be released on Disney+ sometime in 2026.
