Limpopo police constable arrested for culpable homicide after fatal incident involving child
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the 36-year-old Constable, stationed at Motetema Police Station in Sekhukhune District, allegedly drove a state vehicle under the influence and struck an 8-year-old boy in the Hlogotlou policing area on August 8 at approximately 19:15.
'It is reported that a Police Constable was driving a state vehicle when he allegedly knocked down an eight years 8-year-old child along the road at Mogaung village, heading in the direction.'
Emergency medical services personnel were called to the scene, but the victim succumbed to his injuries.
He added that preliminary investigations suggest the Constable was driving under the influence of a substance during the incident, and that the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has been notified to conduct further investigations.
The Constable is set to appear before Nebo Magistrate's Court on August 11, facing charges of culpable homicide and alleged driving under the influence of alcohol.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, strongly welcomed the arrest, emphasising the department's commitment to accountability and justice.
"The police are expected to conduct themselves in terms of the SAPS Code of Ethics as well as the Code of Conduct at all material times."

Ledwaba added that the Independent Police Investigative Directorate has been notified and will investigate the shooting. 'Two suspects remain at large. 2 Limpopo police sergeants die in domestic violence incident
Two police sergeants died in a suspected domestic violence incident at Nkuna Kraal Mall in Nkuzana village in the Mopani District of Limpopo, on Saturday afternoon. Polokwane Review reports that, according to the Limpopo police, the female victim, a sergeant stationed at Beit Bridge Port of Entry, was with two adults and her six-year-old child when her estranged husband, also a sergeant, attached to the Thohoyandou K9 Unit, approached her. The couple had reportedly been separated for about seven months. Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says an argument broke out, during which the female sergeant was shot in her upper body, allegedly by her husband with his service firearm. 'When he attempted to run to the vehicle to flee the scene, the community who observed the entire incident chased and assaulted him, setting him alight next to his vehicle. The vehicle was burnt beyond recognition,' his statement reads. Ledwaba says the female sergeant and her husband died at the scene. The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, expresses shock at the tragedy and urged SAPS members to seek professional help for domestic disputes rather than resorting to violence. 'The SAPS has in place an Employee Health and Wellness Programme that is offered free of charge. We call upon members to make use of these services that are at their disposal,' she says. Stolen goods recovered as Pretoria North robbery suspects caught
Four suspects, including three men and one woman aged between 30 and 38, are set to appear in the Pretoria North Magistrate's Court on Monday, following their arrest in connection with theft and robbery cases in the area. The arrests took place on August 7, after a co-ordinated operation involving the Pretoria North SAPS Crime Prevention Unit, SAPS Highway Patrol, GAC Risk Solutions, and Proshield Security. The group has reportedly been on the police radar since the beginning of August, after a series of incidents were reported in which unsuspecting victims were scammed and robbed of valuable belongings, including cellphones and cash. According to Pretoria North police spokesperson Sergeant Tumisang Moloto, the suspects' alleged modus operandi involved approaching victims under false pretences before stealing their possessions. 'These individuals are believed to have been behind several recent incidents targeting residents, and their arrest is a significant step towards restoring safety in the community,' said Moloto. He said the breakthrough came when a white Hyundai, believed to have been used in the commission of the crimes, was captured on security camera footage. 'Acting on this crucial lead, the integrated law enforcement team mobilised immediately and tracked the vehicle to Paul Kruger Street near the R566 Rosslyn Road. 'The vehicle was intercepted without incident, and a search led to the seizure of multiple cellphones, wallets, and an undisclosed amount of cash, suspected to have been stolen from victims.' He said the recovered items will form part of the evidence presented in court. Station Commander Colonel Nonzwakazi Julla commended the swift response and teamwork between SAPS units and private security companies. The suspects remain in custody and are expected to face charges of theft and common robbery when they appear in court.
