2 Limpopo police sergeants die in domestic violence incident
Polokwane Review reports that, according to the Limpopo police, the female victim, a sergeant stationed at Beit Bridge Port of Entry, was with two adults and her six-year-old child when her estranged husband, also a sergeant, attached to the Thohoyandou K9 Unit, approached her.
The couple had reportedly been separated for about seven months.
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says an argument broke out, during which the female sergeant was shot in her upper body, allegedly by her husband with his service firearm.
'When he attempted to run to the vehicle to flee the scene, the community who observed the entire incident chased and assaulted him, setting him alight next to his vehicle. The vehicle was burnt beyond recognition,' his statement reads.
Ledwaba says the female sergeant and her husband died at the scene.
The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, expresses shock at the tragedy and urged SAPS members to seek professional help for domestic disputes rather than resorting to violence.
'The SAPS has in place an Employee Health and Wellness Programme that is offered free of charge. We call upon members to make use of these services that are at their disposal,' she says.
Ledwaba adds that cases of murder have been opened and urges anyone with information to contact detective Sergeant Stanley Chauke on 072 554 3141, the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111, or via the MySAPS app.
'Investigations continue,' he concludes.

An alleged hijacker was shot dead in a shoot-out with security officers yesterday afternoon in Hammarsdale, KZN. The Witness reports that two other accomplices were injured and one fled on foot. SAPS warns officers against wearing buffs with uniform
SAPS reminded officers that they may not wear buffs because buffs conceal identity and breach the code of conduct. Only specialised units, the Special Task Force (STF), National Intervention Unit (NIU), and Tactical Response Team (TRT), may wear buffs, and only during authorised and approved operations. SAPS stated that under no circumstances may the police emblem appear on any buff. The service warned that criminals posing as police officers often wear buffs to hide their faces. If such concealment became common among officers, it would make it difficult for the public to tell genuine police from impostors. To prevent this, SAPS requires all members to be identifiable at all times, which includes the compulsory display of name tags. 256 suspects arrested in women-led Operation Basadi in Ekurhuleni
A total of 256 suspects were arrested during Operation Basadi in Ekurhuleni, a joint effort led by women in blue and their partners to tackle crime in the area. The operation took place from August 6 and 7 in Alberton, Moffat View, Eastcliff and Oakdene. The initiative was led by female officers from various law enforcement agencies, including the SAPS, EMPD and Gauteng Traffic Police. According to Ekurhuleni district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole, the operation was a success, with detectives arresting 237 wanted suspects during tracing operations across the district. These included suspects linked to contact crimes, property crimes and gender-based violence cases. EMPD spokesperson Captain Kgotso Letang praised the teamwork and dedication of the women involved. 'The EMPD is proud to have been part of this operation, which demonstrates our commitment to working together with other law enforcement agencies to keep our communities safe,' said Letang. Operation Basadi also included awareness campaigns and community engagement initiatives. Social Crime Prevention teams went door to door raising awareness about house robberies and distributing safety pamphlets to motorists. Community imbizos were held in various areas across Ekurhuleni, giving residents the chance to voice their concerns about policing in their neighbourhoods. Major General Sithole commended the women in law enforcement for their hard work and dedication, saying their efforts are making a real difference in reducing crime across Ekurhuleni. The success of Operation Basadi is a testament to the power of teamwork and collaboration in keeping communities safe.
