Angelina Jolie Makes Rare Statement on Friendship With Ex-Husband
At the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Wednesday, Angelina Jolie made rare remarks about where she stands with her ex-husband (via People).
Jolie was speaking about her career with film critic Leonard Maltin while receiving the Maltin Modern Master Award when conversation turned to Hackers (1995), the cult-classic cyber-punk thriller in which she starred with her ex-husband Jonny Lee Miller. Jolie and Miller were married from 1996 until 1999.
"I was just saying to somebody, it's really funny because I think you're starting with Hackers, right?" Jolie said before Maltin rolled a clip from the movie. "Yeah, it's Jonny,' she continued. 'I just talked to him. I love that—I get to see my ex-husband with 2,000 people," Jolie laughed.Following the clip, Jolie called the experience of making the film—one of her first—'amazing.' 'It's so nice to see it," she said of the scene. "Actually, it's funny, I don't really watch my own films, and so I [don't] think I've seen it since the premiere,' she added.
Jolie then diverged and made a rare personal remark, updating the audience on where she and Miller stand 26 years after their divorce. 'I do have a wonderful relationship with Jonny,' she said, adding that 'he and I have sons the same age, and I'm so happy." A source told People back in 2021 that Jolie's son Knox is close pals with Miller's son Buster, whom the Melinda and Melinda star shares with his ex, Michelle Hicks.
Following her divorce from Miller, Jolie went on to marry and divorce Billy Bob Thornton and Brad Pitt. Since splitting from Pitt in 2019, Jolie has not been publicly linked to any romantic suitors. She's devoted her time to raising her children and focusing on her humanitarian work, only occasionally appearing in films such as The Eternals (2021) and Maria (2024).
