Beyoncé Is Officially Halfway to EGOT Status

Yahooa day ago
Beyoncé now has an Emmy award, on top of her 35 Grammy awards, placing her halfway to EGOT status. Named for four of the entertainment world's biggest awards, an 'EGOT' winner is an individual who has achieved the extremely rare honor of winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award in competitive categories.
Now, Beyoncé is en route to an EGOT after she won an Emmy for 'Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Programming' for the costumes on the Netflix special Beyoncé Bowl, which aired during the halftime of the NFL Christmas game between the Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans. She shares the win with Shiona Turini, Erica Rice and Molly Peters, Chelsea Staebell, and Timothy White.
Per NBC News, 'The award was among a handful of so-called juried Emmys announced Tuesday that are determined outside the regular voting process and given out by committees, with no official nominees. They are usually highly technical — several involve individual elements of the animation process — and rarely go to famous names.' Beyoncé is still up for two Emmy awards in the categories of Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special and Outstanding Variety Special, which will be announced at the ceremony next month.
While Beyoncé has never competed at the Tonys, she has been nominated for an Oscar once before, for Best Original Song for 'Be Alive' from the 2022 film King Richard, but lost to Billie Eilish and Finneas for 'No Time to Die.'
The last EGOT winners to join the exclusive list were songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and singer Elton John.

KPop Demon Hunters Get Golden News As Special UK Screenings Are Announced

Time to warm up those vocal cords, because KPop Demon Hunters is about to hit cinemas as part of a very special release. If you've had the soundtrack on repeat since watching the animated K-pop fantasy film on Netflix, HUNTR/X and Saja Boys fans will now have the chance to not only see the movie on the big screen, but belt out all the songs to your heart's content at a singalong screening. Netflix has announced it will be hosting a series of these screenings across the UK over the Bank Holiday weekend on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 August, which follows the announcement of similar events in the US and Canada (more information can be found here). The animated musical adventure follows K-pop superstars Rumi, Mira and Zoey who use their secret identities as demon hunters to protect fans from a supernatural threat, which shows up in a rival boy band of demons in disguise. Since its release in mid-June, KPop Demon Hunters has not only remained hovering around the top of Netflix UK's most-watched films (it's in the number one spot at the time of writing), but it has also been crowned the most popular Netflix animated movie of all time, along with becoming the first original animated movie to enter the Most Popular Movies List (English). The soundtrack, meanwhile, has dominated the charts, with breakout track Golden by Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami hitting the number one spot on both the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the UK Official Singles Chart. Golden's rise to the top of the UK charts made it the first K-pop number one in 13 years, following PSY's Gangnam Style in 2012. It's also the first time a song from an animated movie has hit number one since We Don't Talk About Bruno from the Encanto soundtrack three years ago. And Golden isn't the only song fans can't stop streaming, as Soda Pop and Your Idol are still in the UK top 10. Karol G to headline halftime show during YouTube's first exclusive NFL broadcast

NEW YORK -- Bringing football fans, Brazil and Karol G together for a one-night experience? That's a winning formula. The Grammy award-winning musician will headline a halftime show during YouTube's first exclusive NFL broadcast next month, which will stream live from Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil on Sept. 5. That's the NFL week 1 matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and the reigning AFC-winning Kansas City Chiefs. 'This year has been truly rewarding, and the timing of this opportunity — to be part of such an important moment like YouTube's first-ever NFL live broadcast — is perfect,' the singer shared in an exclusive written statement. 'With my latest album 'Tropicoqueta,' I set out to represent the many facets of my Latin culture, something I'm incredibly passionate about in everything I do. I'm excited to bring that same energy and pride to this global stage and honored to continue elevating Latin culture on such a monumental platform.' It's a natural pairing. Karol G is a global superstar, American football is growing in popularity worldwide, and many of the world's most ardent music fans call Brazil home — it's one of the many reasons 'Come to Brazil' has become a stalwart meme, a three-word stand-in for the ultimate expression of fandom. 'Our goal is to highlight the excitement and Americana of the NFL, but do this thoughtfully in a way that plays to local cultures, practices and traditions,' said Tim Tubito, senior director of global game presentation and entertainment at the NFL. Booking Karol G 'not only excites our fans and pays homage to their culture in South America, but has an impact on a global scale,' he added. 'We hope all of our fans are ready for a historic celebration.' The game is free to stream for fans across the globe, exclusively through YouTube and YouTube TV. It begins at 5 p.m. Pacific / 8 p.m. Eastern / 9 p.m. BRT (local time). A pre-show kicks off an hour earlier. 'To celebrate this moment, we are thrilled that global superstar Karol G will perform during our halftime show,' said Angela Courtin, VP of sports and entertainment marketing at YouTube in a statement. 'The game and performance will be broadcast worldwide for free on YouTube, blending the fandom of sports and music together for one epic cultural moment.'
