Terrifying Sally Hawkins horror Bring Her Back finally confirms UK release date

Yahoo03-04-2025

Talk To Me directors Danny and Michael Philippou are returning with Bring Her Back, a skin-crawling, supernatural horror starring Sally Hawkins.
The Aussie filmmaking duo are set to explore the realm of the dead once again with their sinister, sophomore feature about a grief-stricken foster mother (Hawkins) who involves her kids in a reincarnation ritual of sorts. Or at least, that's what the enigmatic trailer suggests.
Ahead of the film's release — set for May 30 in the US and August 1 in the UK — a first, extended trailer sees Hawkins' character badly dealing with the loss of a loved one.
"How did you cope with Cathy being gone?" a man asks the protagonist off-screen, to which she replies: "I didn't."
Hawkins' lead then welcomes two new kids, played by Sora Wong and Billy Barratt, to her home and introduces them to Oliver (Jonah Wren Phillips), a third, elder child.

In an attempt to help them bond, the protagonist tells them that they have all lost their families. Still, the new children struggle to connect with Oliver and realise they've just become part of an unholy project courtesy of their foster mum.
Cue a montage of creepy scenes where the protagonist watches some camcorder footage, cuts a lock of hair from a corpse in a coffin, and gives a bath to Oliver, who seems to be in contact with the underworld.
"Some people believe the spirit stays in the body for months after death," Hawkins says in the clip, as she appears set to resurrect someone from her past with Oliver's help.

If you've seen Talk To Me (and we highly recommend you do if you haven't), then you already know that meddling with life and death probably won't go down well for the characters.
How Bring Her Back's possibly demonic denouement will pan out isn't too clear from the trailer, but it sounds ominous. For the time being, the only thing we should be wary of this side of the pond are spoilers, given the two-month gap between the US and the UK releases.
Bring Her Back hits US cinemas on 30 May. In the UK, the film releases on August 1.

Days Gone Studio Hit With Mass Layoff After Live Service PlayStation Game Canceled

Days Gone maker Bend Studio has been hit by layoffs. Roughly a third of the first-party PlayStation team was cut following the recent cancelation of an unannounced live service project, but Sony confirmed the studio is working on a new project now and it remains 'confident in its future and creative direction.' 'Earlier this year, Bend Studio wrapped development on a live service concept. After careful consideration, we chose not to move forward with it,' a spokesperson for Sony confirmed to Kotaku in an email. 'As the team shifts focus to its next project, we've made strategic changes to better position the studio for long-term success. As part of this transition, a workforce reduction has taken place at the studio. This decision was not made lightly, and we are extremely grateful for the meaningful contributions of all those impacted. Bend Studio has been a valued part of PlayStation Studios for decades, and we remain confident in its future and creative direction.' About 40 developers at the Oregon-based studio were laid today, as first reported by Bloomberg. The project they were previously working on was canceled earlier this year amid a purge of some internal live service projects, including an online God of War spin-off at Bluepoint Games. 'Bend Studio laid off a bunch of people today,' senior animator Robert Morrison posted on X. 'I was a part of the layoffs. I did my best. Hopefully I can find a new team to join.' Best known for the Syphon Filter espionage games in the PS1 and PS2 eras, Bend Studio later moved on to developing handheld ports of first-party franchises like Resistance and Uncharted before eventually making 2019's open world zombie blockbuster Days Gone. The game didn't review as highly as some PlayStation exclusives but still sold well. While fans pined for a sequel, the studio hasn't released a game since. Days Gone received a PS5 version earlier this year but has otherwise laid dormant as Bend Studio reportedly worked on a new live service IP. Leaked images made it appear like the now canceled game was an online multiplayer loot shooter of sorts, though no official details about the project were ever shared publicly. The Bend Studio cuts are the latest self-inflicted wound of a PS5 generation live service pivot that's left Sony conspicuously short on big first-party blockbusters. Live service spin-offs of Twisted Metal and The Last of Us were also canceled, while Concord's launch went so poorly the company refunded the game and shutdown the studio behind it which had acquired just a couple years prior. Another upcoming online shooter, Fairgame$, was recently delayed according to Bloomberg after it received negative feedback from external testing. That studio's head, Jade Raymond, departed around the same time. Update 6/10/2025 5:06 p.m. ET: Added statement from Sony. . For the latest news, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Aussie tennis star Daria Kasatkina announces engagement to figure skating girlfriend

It's Pride Month, and love is in the air! Aussie tennis star Daria Kasatkina just got engaged to her longtime girlfriend, former Olympic figure skater Natalia Zabiiako. The two athletes started dating three years ago and announced their engagement on June 7 via an adorable Instagram post showing off Zabiiako's diamond ring. Advertisement 'And just like that,' the caption reads. The pair's fellow athlete friends took to the comments to send them well-wishes on their upcoming nuptials. 'Ahhh congrats,' wrote British tennis player Katie Boulter. 'I will be at the wedding regardless if you want it or not,' commented Russian-Australian tennis star Arina Rodionova, who frequently stars in the couple's YouTube channel 'What the Vlog' which chronicles life on a tennis tour. And former American tennis champ Jennifer Brady said, 'Congrats Dasha and Natalia!!!" The star athlete couple's engagement comes on the heals of Kasatkina being granted a permanent residency by the Australian government after leaving Russia, a country that she has vocally criticized for it's persecution of the LGBTQ+ community. In 2023, the Russian Supreme Court ruled that "the international LGBT movement is an extremist organization' and in 2024 the first convictions in connection with the law were handed down after a man posted a Pride flag online and a woman wore rainbow frog earrings.
