Justin Bieber was arrested in Miami Beach 11 years ago. Who bailed him out?
Remember when Justin Bieber was arrested in a DUI in Miami Beach more than a decade ago? We are finding out more details about that fateful, wild day (Jan. 23, 2014) and who helped him.
That would be Fat Joe. On last Thursday's 'Joe and Jada' podcast, the rapper claims he was the one who sprung the pop star from jail.
Police back in the day said Bieber had his security team block off 26th to 41st streets on Pine Tree Drive so he could drag race in a Lamborghini with his friend, R&B singer Khalil Sharieff, in a Ferrari.
The bail was set at $2,500, and the famous teen was released the following day.
The Canadian-born heartthrob was charged with driving under the influence, driving with an expired license and resisting arrest. Sharieff also faced similar charges.
Fat Joe reported that when Bieber later called to thank him, he initially boasted about his alleged crimes. Joe shut him down.
'He starts telling me he's a gangster,' recounted the 'All the Way Up' singer. 'I said, 'Yo, Justin. Listen, bro. You gotta stop. Straight up. We don't want you gangster. We want you singing 'Baby, baby.''
The 54-year-old said he refused to sugarcoat the incident, which could have ruined the young man's career.
'I hit him with, 'We don't want you on the news, yo. We don't want you getting arrested. We want you to succeed. ... My daughter worships you! We all love you!'
The two entertainers, who had friends in common back then, apparently barely ever spoke again.
'That kinda messed up my relationship with him at that moment because he was really like yo this guy, I'm the fun killer. I f------ up the moment,' Fat Joe said. 'We can't glorify going to jail or getting arrested.'
While Bieber may have lacked the maturity at the time, on the-seven year anniversary of the arrest, he told his fans he'd come a long way.
'Not proud of where I was at in my life. I was hurting, unhappy, confused, angry, misled, misunderstood and angry at God,' said his post, adding, 'I also wore too much leather for someone in Miami.'

This Pride Month, writes Clay Wirestone, we can find inspiration among LGBTQ+ Kansans. (Getty Images) LGBTQ+ Pride Month in a red state tends to have a certain edge. Even the most earnest celebration of freedom and belonging can feel like one of those disposable plastic ponchos, quickly unwrapped to keep off the rain. You appreciate it, you value it, but it can't last forever. Yet us gay people persist in living across all 50 states, and in every country around the globe besides. We're most definitely here in Kansas. You can make a joke or two about the Wizard of Oz (heck, I even wrote a column about it), but we're still here, we're still queer, and we're still asking everyone to get used to it. Rather than opine about the meaning of the exercise, I thought I'd kick off the month by highlighting eight LGBTQ+ Kansans. (A hat tip to our friends over at the Manhattan Mercury, who published a similar list last year.) If I left off important folks, please let me know. We have a lot of June left! Melissa Etheridge The Leavenworth-born singer-songwriter rocketed to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s. A husky-voiced rocker, she blazed trails by coming out publicly all the way back in 1992. She's since recorded a live album at the Topeka Correctional Facility. William S. Burroughs Beat-adjacent writer Burroughs was born in St. Louis and notably lived in Tangiers and New York. He relocated to Lawrence in 1991, however, and lived there until his death in 1997. The city's Burroughs Creek Trail now bears his name. Rep. Sharice Davids The state's Democratic representative for the 3rd District made history in 2018 as the first LGBTQ+ and Native American member. She has now been re-elected three times, which perhaps should raise some eyebrows among national Dems. Cassandra Peterson (Elvira) Any child of the 1980s (and I was one) knows the vampy Elivira on sight. The woman below the wig was Manhattan-born Cassandra Peterson, who revealed her two-decade relationship with a woman in her 2021 memoir. Janelle Monae This Kansas City, Kansas, native first caught my husband's eye through her 2010 album, 'The ArchAndroid.' She has since recorded more albums, acted in movies and now identifies as nonbinary, using she/her or they/them pronouns. Gilbert Baker Born in Chanute and graduating from Parsons High School, Baker created the iconic rainbow pride flag in 1978. Queer icon Harvey Milk, the San Francisco politician and activist, asked him to do so. As an unwelcome note, the Trump administration plans to remove Milk's name from a Navy ship. Just to show that Making America Great Again includes insulting a slain veteran. Stephanie Byers Former State Rep. Stephanie Byers of Wichita was elected in 2020 as the state's first transgender lawmaker. Suffice to say, she put up with an awful lot during her term in office. However, I found her grit and vibrant personality a constant inspiration. Matthew Vines The Wichita native Vines attended Harvard and caused a sensation by arguing that Christianity doesn't condemn same-sex marriage or relationships. He founded the nonprofit Reformation Project and wrote the book 'God and the Gay Christian.' Bonus: your Kansas Reflector opinion editors This might sound like a bit of a cheat, but so be it. Both founding Reflector opinion C.J. Janovy and yours truly have written about our community many times. Janovy even published a book on the subject. Listen, living here might not always be easy. IDF retrieves bodies of hostages Judith Weinstein Haggai, husband Gadi Haggai from Khan Yunis
The two were kidnapped on October 7 from Kibbutz Nir Oz. The bodies of hostages Judith Weinstein Haggai and her husband, Gadi Haggai, were retrieved by the IDF overnight on Thursday in a special forces operation performed in collaboration with intelligence from the Shin Bet and the IDF. The Mujahideen Brigades kidnapped and held the bodies of the two in Gaza after they were murdered on October 7 in Kibbutz Nir Oz. Their deaths were determined in December 2023. IDF forces carried out the rescue operation under the Southern Command. After an identification process at the National Center of Forensic Medicine, together with the Israel Police, the Hostage and Missing Persons Team in the IDF's Personnel Directorate notified the family and the Nir Oz community. Weinstein and Haggai both held American citizenship, and Haggai additionally held Canadian citizenship. They left behind four children and seven grandchildren. 'We welcome the closure that we have been granted and the return for burial of our loved ones, who went out for a walk on that Black Sabbath morning and never came back," Nir Oz said in a statement. Nir Oz thanked the IDF and security forces who carried out the complex rescue operation. They also thanked "everyone who supported, struggled, prayed, and fought for us and for all of Israel," as well as the FBI, and the US and Israeli governments. "However, our hearts will not be whole until all 12 hostages from Nir Oz and all 56 hostages in total are brought back," the statement concluded. This is a developing story.
