Birmingham veterans to benefit from rowers' Indian Ocean challenge
A group of rowers overcame capsizing and equipment failures to complete a journey across the Indian Ocean in aid of Mason, Matthew Inglesby, Matthew Hemmings and Jake Mattock undertook the mainland-to-mainland charity crossing in a traditional ocean rowing group, who left Australia in May, recently landed in Kenya after the 71-day adventure of more than 3,600 nautical £60,000 has been raised towards the University Hospitals Birmingham Charity, to support injured military personnel and their families. Mr Mattock told BBC Midlands Today that the challenge, organised by Ocean Revival Adventures, was going relatively smoothly before they got to their boat capsized and they also suffered various equipment failures, including losing their GPS and steering issues."That's where things started to turn and we had to go to plan B, plan C and, in some cases, plan D," he Mattock, who founded outdoors initiative The Adventure Antidote, said overcoming those difficulties was their biggest challenge."I was pretty scared after that and we were still in the middle of the ocean," he said. "Help isn't that close if you need it." Mr Mattock said he decided to take part in the challenge because he became "sick of the same routine" and wanted to explore the world."I felt like I never really pushed myself enough to find out what I was capable of. I wanted to try a challenge I wasn't sure I'd be able to achieve," he said."To smash it throughout the 71 days and get to the finish line feels so good."The money raised will be split between Fisher House, which offers a home away from home for injured military personnel and their families, and Diving with the Injured - a programme which takes wounded veterans on diving trips around the world. Mike Hammond, chief executive of the hospital charity, said they needed to raise about £300,000 a year to run Fisher House."It still means we've got a lot more money to raise every year but it's an amazing achievement by Jake and the Matts," he said. Emily Atack and Danny Dyer's new primetime ITV game show is revealed - and insiders say its premise is VERY familiar
Emily Atack and Danny Dyer 's new primetime ITV game show has been revealed, but its premise is raising eyebrows. It was revealed earlier this year that the pair, who both starred in the Disney+ hit Rivals, will front a Saturday night game show called Nobody's Fool. Bosses at the broadcaster brought in the pair in a bid to 'freshen up their entertainment talent', it was reported. The duo are reportedly set to receive a whopping £250,000 each for the gig, with the show expected to air next year. But similarities between Nobody's Fool and Rivals are said to have raised eyebrows behind the scenes. A source told The Sun: 'Rivals is the story of a web of rival individuals which is spun around a stately house, Penscombe Court, and their efforts to constantly outdo one another. 'That's exactly the basis for the new gameshow, which also has the background of a country pile and sees all the competitors try to outwit one another. 'Those in the know are already describing it as: "A game of intellect and deception" which could be the catchline for one of Jilly's novels.' MailOnline has contacted representatives for Danny and Emily for comment. Danny and Emily have been busy so far this year filming the second series of the smash-hit series, based on the racy books of Dame Jilly Cooper. Danny, who played pub landlord Mick Carter in EastEnders for almost a decade, is no stranger to game shows. The hardman previously hosted The Wall for the BBC, which ran for three series before ending in 2022 when Danny left EastEnders and the BBC. Mum-of-one Emily starred as a team captain on now-axed CelebJuice with Keith Lemon and Laura Whitmore. Danny recently revealed there is so much bonking in Rivals 2 – which is currently filming - that they have hired every intimacy coach in the UK. He said: 'We are doing 12 episodes of Rivals and we are filming until March next year. 'It is brilliant but it is a mad thing to do a sex scene. If you think about it you are legally allowed to tongue someone else. It is part of your job. Depending on your partner. It is OK if you fancy it, I am not going to lie.' He added: 'On Rivals there are a lot of intimacy coaches. I think we used every intimacy coach in the land.' In the smash hit Disney + show, based on the novel by Jilly Cooper, Danny played self-made businessman Freddie Jones who goes into business with Rupert Campbell-Black, played by Alex Hassell and Declan O'Hara played by Aidan Turner. In the show Jones falls in love with romance author Lizzie Vereker, played by actress Katherine Parkinson. The initial run was eight episodes but Disney + have asked for more this time around. Danny's performance as Jones has been hailed as bringing heart to the frothy, pulpy show, which has led to a reassessment of him as an actor, following his long-running stint in EastEnders. He was awarded a Bafta in May for his performance in Mr Bigstuff. He told Esquire magazine: 'People saw me in a different light[in Rivals], and it came out just after Mr. Bigstuff, which, for once, shows a bit of versatility, because Lee is so different to Freddie. 'I've made a lot mistakes over the years. I've said yes to a lot of jobs I probably shouldn't have, probably because I was driven by the dollar – I had bills to pay and kids in private schools. Now, I'm at a stage where I have loads of offers that I've got the power to say no to. I think I'll be defined by what I say no to, and it's really exciting for me.' On stage at the Baftas where he won the award to Best Male Performance in a Comedy he said: 'What a touch! Comedy performance. I thought my acting was so bad it was funny. I want to thank Sky for giving our show a shot. F***ing hell, I'm choked up. 'I got to dedicate this to (Mr Bigstuff writer) Ryan Sampson. One of the greatest things to come out of Rotherham. Which is not saying much. 'But one of the best actors this country's ever produced, I'm telling you. Never done the same thing twice. Which is not something I can say. He wrote this part for me, so you know... I'm getting choked up again, f**k me.'

Lorraine Kelly and husband Steve Smith have left luxuries behind for their picturesque Zimbabwe camping trip. But despite being left 'mingin' as they roughed it, the broadcaster, 65, and her partner of 33-years, appeared to love every moment as they got up close and personal with hippopotamuses and crocodiles. One mishap while travelling in their camper saw Lorraine accidentally brush her teeth with 'travel wash' while Steve, who shares daughter Rosie, 31, with his wife, joked the pair's equal stenches were 'cancelling each other out'. Taking to his Instagram he shared a clip of the getaway as the couple dined outdoors and enjoyed the scenery before bedding down in their van. Steve captioned the video: 'Another great day at mana pools. One of us brushed their teeth with travel wash ( no me ) before we set off the see what we could find'. 'Lots@of ele's antelopes, warthogs, jackals, hippos and crocs. The wild dogs have moved on and we never saw lions but we heard them in the night. Kept me awake!'. In 2021, Lorraine gave a rare insight to her marriage with Steve, revealing their sex life is ' toddling along nicely '. It comes after Lorraine reportedly signed a major deal with ITV rival Channel 4 for a huge budget travel series after her daytime show was hit by brutal cuts. The Scottish presenter's morning show has also seen her key production role, Head of Lorraine be axed, according to The Sun On Sunday. And this is just the latest in a series of blows for the show, as the year-round hour-long show was reduced to just 30 weeks of 30-minute slots from next year. Lorraine first joined ITV in 1984 and has appeared on many flagship shows including GMB alongside Eamonn Holmes. A source told the publication: 'Channel 4 were delighted to have Lorraine on board. It was exciting for Lorraine to do something different and be on location again. 'Despite the apparent slight in the ITV daytime shake-up, Lorraine's loyal fanbase isn't to be underestimated and they will follow her wherever she goes. The source continued and claimed she is 'gutted' over the cuts and is now 'opening her eyes' to upcoming options in the industry. An ITV spokesperson told MailOnline: 'We have always said that from January 2026, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women will be three editorially distinct shows which will be produced by one team. 'These changes are not about the performance of the shows or the staff who produce them, with Lorraine only last month achieving its highest audience share in four years. 'We can assure our viewers that their favourite daytime shows will remain familiar to them on screen."
