Mark Kaboly confident T.J. Watt, Steelers extension gets done based on past contracts
Everyone has an opinion on the Steelers–T.J. Watt contract drama — and that includes Mark Kaboly, who's convinced a deal gets done.
On Wednesday, Kaboly took to social media to argue why the Steelers are more likely than not to extend Watt long-term:
'Why do the Steelers feel like a T.J. Watt deal will happen?
When the Steelers identify a player they WANT to keep, they keep. Off top of my head, the extensions that got done before the final year to significant players: Maurkice Pouncey, Ben Roethlisberger, Cam Heyward, Cam Heyward, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Diontae Johnson, Pat Freiermuth, Chris Boswell, Antonio Brown, Ramon Foster, Troy Polamalu, Hines Ward, and Heath Miller.
Mike Wallace and Le'Veon Bell were outliers.'
Kaboly hit the nail right on the head.
While Watt is likely on the tail end of his career, he is the heart and soul of the Steelers defense — and it seems like it's only a matter of when, not if, the future Hall of Fame defender signs a new extension with Pittsburgh.

Jalen Ramsey spotted at UCLA — fueling Steelers trade rumors due to DK Metcalf connection
Jalen Ramsey spotted at UCLA — fueling Steelers trade rumors due to DK Metcalf connection Jalen Ramsey has been working out at the same place as Steelers WR DK Metcalf #noticing — Polymarket Football (@PolymarketBlitz) June 19, 2025 Jalen Ramsey's UCLA training pic has gone viral after weeks of Steelers trade rumors and speculation. UCLA Football posted several pictures of Ramsey's training session, which sent social media pages into a frenzy. Polymarket Football quickly speculated that the workout could be connected to DK Metcalf, as the Steelers wide receiver had his famous throwing session with Aaron Rodgers there. Back in April, insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Dolphins and Ramsey had mutually agreed to seek trade options. Over the past several weeks, Ramsey has been connected to both the Rams and Steelers as potential landing spots for the three-time All-Pro corner — while HC Sean McVay claimed "obstacles" may prevent Los Angeles from acquiring him. Steelers fans should take the now-viral UCLA workout speculation with a grain of salt, as Ramsey's choice of training facility being similar to that of Rodgers and Metcalf is likely coincidence — but it definitely adds more fuel to the rumored Pittsburgh trade narrative this offseason. Steelers miss out on top cornerback as Jaire Alexander signs with Ravens
When it came out that the Green Bay Packers had released cornerback Jaire Alexander, we immediately felt like he would be an excellent fit with the Pittsburgh Steelers. We felt like even after the addition of Darius Slay, Alexander could have added another starter-quality player and allowed Slay to kick inside. Unfortunately, the Steelers let Alexander get away and instead, he's signing with AFC North rival, the Baltimore Ravens. Alexander is joining a very deep and talented group led by T.J. Tampa, Nate Wiggins and Chidobe Awuzie. Alexander and Wiggins would be our projected starters for the Ravens, with veteran Marlon Humphrey as the nickel. Meanwhile, the Steelers have had to cobble together a cornerback depth chart that offers very little beyond Slay and fellow starter Joey Porter Jr. There is still hope the Steelers could work a trade for Miami Dolphins cornerabck Jalen Ramsey but if not, it will be journeyman James Pierre and unproven Cory Trice Jr. as the only viable backups on the outside.
