
Kuwait places road safety at the heart of its development strategy: Al-Mashaan
MARRAKESH, Morocco, Feb 19: Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, the Minister of Public Works, stated on Wednesday that the State of Kuwait has prioritized road safety in its development plans and work programs. The country has been implementing road development, expansion, and maintenance projects using high-quality materials to enhance durability and extend the lifespan of its roads.
Al-Mashaan made these remarks to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) during her participation in the fourth session of the Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, which is currently taking place in Marrakesh. The conference, under the theme "Commitment for Life," has seen the participation of ministers and experts from around the world.
She explained that the involvement of the Ministry of Public Works and the Roads and Land Transport Authority in this global conference aims to highlight road safety as a key issue that concerns society. Al-Mashaan emphasized Kuwait's commitment to applying the best methods and practices in infrastructure development, improving safety standards, and supporting policies and strategies aimed at reducing traffic accidents and minimizing both human and material losses.
The Global Ministerial Conference, organized by the World Health Organization in collaboration with the Moroccan Ministry of Transport and Logistics, began on Tuesday and will continue for three days. The conference focuses on the challenges posed by traffic accidents and aims to propose solutions and policies aligned with the United Nations' goal of reducing deaths from traffic accidents by half by 2030.
In addition to the main conference sessions, several parallel events are taking place, including the "World Film Festival" on road safety, international youth participation in road safety, and a meeting of the Global Alliance of Non-Governmental Organizations involved in road safety initiatives. The conference will conclude with the adoption of the "Marrakesh Declaration," which will form the basis for the United Nations General Assembly resolution regarding the international goal.

2,530 undocumented residents granted driving licenses
KUWAIT CITY, May 29: The Central System for the Remedy of Situations of Illegal Residents announced on Thursday that 2,530 new driving licenses were issued (for the first time) for undocumented residents during 2024, in cooperation with the General Department of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior. The Director of the Information Department Abdullah Al-Farhan said to KUNA that 29,256 driving licenses were renewed from January 1 to the end of December last year. Al-Farhan added that Al-Jahra Governorate ranked first with 1,516 licenses issued, followed by Al-Asimah with 325 licenses, then Al-Farwaniya with 314 licenses, then Al-Ahmadi with 269 licenses, Mubarak Al-Kabeer with 59 licenses, and Hawalli with 46 licenses, and only one license for the new electronic traffic services was issued. He noted that 'obtaining licenses is accessible for those holding valid cards and over the age of 18,' adding that 'the process of issuing driver's licenses comes following Cabinet Resolution No. (409/2011) related to providing a number of advantages and services for residents living illegally. Ministry begins road rehabilitation works in Fahad Al-Ahmad
KUWAIT: Minister of Public Works Dr Noura Al-Mashaan announced the commencement of comprehensive road maintenance works in Fahad Al-Ahmad as part of a wider initiative encompassing 18 road rehabilitation projects across Kuwait's governorates. The move comes in line with the New Kuwait 2035 vision aimed at enhancing the country's infrastructure. In a press statement issued Sunday, Dr Al-Mashaan affirmed the ministry's commitment to implementing its development strategy in accordance with the highest technical standards, ensuring the delivery of high-quality projects that enhance road efficiency and safety. She noted that the efforts fall within a broader national framework to modernize and develop Kuwait's road network. KUWAIT: Workers continue the roads maintenance in Fahad Al-Ahmad, Al-Mangaf and Al-Aqila as part of the new contracts.- KUNA photos Meanwhile, Engineer Mohammad Ra'i Al-Fahma, a member of the supervision team for Contract 15 – the first phase in Al-Ahmadi Governorate – confirmed that field teams have begun executing extensive maintenance works in Block 1 of Fahad Al-Ahmad. He added that the works involve laying a Type 3 asphalt layer in accordance with approved technical specifications. Engineer Abdullah Al-Kandari further noted that road maintenance operations are concurrently underway in several areas, including Blocks 1 and 4 of Al-Mangaf, as well as Street 245 in the Aqila area.
