Riverside County nurse arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting unconscious patient
Deputies with the Riverside Sheriff's Special Victims Unit received reports of a hospital employee who "was having inappropriate contact with an unconscious patient," said a press release from the department.
"During the course of the investigation, the suspect was identified as Lauro Gonzales Jr., a 40-year-old resident of Lake Elsinore," the release said. "Investigators learned that Gonzales was employed as a nurse by multiple hospitals within Riverside County."
Gonzales was arrested on Tuesday when investigators conducted a traffic stop on I-15 near Temescal Canyon Road, deputies said. He was booked for sexual penetration of an unconscious person after they served a search warrant at his home, where they said they collected additional evidence.
Due to the nature of the crime, investigators believe that there may be additional victims. Anyone who knows more or believes they are a victim is asked to contact RSO at (951) 955-1718 or (951) 776-1099.

Two suspects sought in attempted break-ins in Van Buren Township neighborhood
Police in Van Buren Township need your help in locating two individuals caught on camera attempting to break into a car and a home on Tuesday morning. "Right now, we do not have any leads on who they are," said Van Buren Township Detective Lt. Ken Floro. Police say around 3:30 a.m. On Tuesday in the Homestead subdivision off Ecorse Road, two homes were the target of attempted break-ins by a duo that police believe were working together. "We have some video where one of the males appears to be talking to somebody, he's not in the frame of the video; however, both these homes are in pretty close proximity to each other," Floro said. In the surveillance video, a suspect described as a white male with a beard, wearing a baseball cap and a T-shirt with a cross on the back, is seen prowling around a property and attempting to open the door of a parked car. Meanwhile, at a different home nearby, a second suspect police describe as a white male with shaggy brown hair and a tattoo of what appears to be two English D's on the side of his neck, is seen trying to get inside from the back patio. "This is the video of this gentleman. He tries the sliding glass door, and then he moves off the deck and around the side of the house," Floro said. Fortunately, detectives say the suspects struck out. Both the home and the vehicle were locked. It's a good reminder for folks, as police say these types of crimes occur more often in the summer. "You know what's suspicious in your neighborhood, you know which cars belong, which people belong, and if you see something that doesn't seem right, seems out of line, maybe a little suspicious, trust your instinct and call us and let us check it out," said Floro. Two men charged over deliberate fire in Tain
Two men have been arrested and charged over a deliberate fire at a house in Tain in the Highlands. Emergency services were called to a fire on Mansfield Estate at about 04:20 on Thursday. It was extinguished and no-one was injured. Officers are investigating a similar fire at the same housing estate on Sunday and said they were keeping an "open mind" on whether the incidents were linked. The men, aged 19 and 40, are due to appear at Tain Sheriff Court at a later date. Det Insp Calum Reid said: "Inquiries are ongoing into both incidents and I'd ask anyone with information to come forward. "We appreciate how concerning these incidents have been for the local community in Tain and want residents to be assured that we are investigating theses fires and are determined to find those responsible."

Authorities take custody of 21 kids in California while surrogate moms claim couple misled them
More than 20 children are in the custody of a California child-welfare agency while authorities investigate a Los Angeles-area couple and whether they misled surrogate mothers around the country. Fifteen children were removed from the couple's opulent home in Arcadia after an abuse allegation in May, and another six living elsewhere were also located, Arcadia police Lt. Kollin Cieadlo said. They range in age from 2 months to 13 years, with most between 1 and 3. 'We believe one or two were born biologically to the mother,' he said. 'There are some surrogates who have come forward and said they were surrogates for the children.' Silvia Zhang, 38, and Guojun Xuan, 65, are believed to be the legal parents of all the children, Cieadlo said. They were arrested in May after a hospital reported that their 2-month-old infant had a traumatic head injury, the result of a nanny at the home violently shaking the baby, Arcadia police said. The child was not taken to the hospital for another two days. Cieadlo said neglect charges were not formally pursued in order for an investigation to continue. The couple told police that they 'wanted a large family,' the lieutenant said. Zhang produced what appeared to be legitimate birth certificates, including some from outside California, that list her as the mother of the children, Cieadlo said. He said the FBI is also part of the investigation. A spokesperson declined to comment when reached Wednesday by The Associated Press. 'I'm not familiar with how the surrogacy laws work,' Cieadlo said. 'We need to do a much deeper dive.' TV stations in Los Angeles quoted women who said they were surrogate mothers for the couple but that they didn't realize other surrogates were also involved. It wasn't immediately clear if Zhang and Xuan had a lawyer who could speak on their behalf. Zhang did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment. Business records with the California Secretary of State show a company called Mark Surrogacy Investment LLC was previously registered at the couple's address. The most recent filing shows the business license was terminated in June. The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, which removed the children, said it could not talk about its actions in a specific case.
