Danny Boyle Explains What To Expect Of The Bone Temple, Sequel To 28 Years Later

28 Years Later makers have already finished filming the sequel, The Bone Temple and it is expected to come out in 2026.
Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, who gave us 28 Days Later over 20 years ago, are back with its sequel, 28 Years Later. The new zombie film is already getting positive reviews online and it's just the start of a fresh trilogy that promises even more excitement. The next part, called The Bone Temple, is ready and waiting to surprise audiences. The good news is that filming for this sequel is already done and is expected to come out in January 2026.
So far, not much has been shared about the story of the next film. But a few cast members have already been confirmed for The Bone Temple. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O'Connell and Emma Laird will be part of the movie. One big surprise is that Cillian Murphy will return as Jim, the same character he played in 28 Days Later.
In an earlier interview with Screen Rant, Danny Boyle shared that the 28 Years Later trilogy might not follow a single continuous storyline. Instead, each film will tell its own separate tale within the same world.
The filmmaker said, 'It's spread over three films, ultimately, and each film would stand independently. But there'd be a bigger tale to tell, and it would be based on a family, and these two [points to Aaron and Jodie] would be the origin of the family. So, it's independent from the first film, but it's still the same apocalypse 28 years later as it was for Cillian Murphy in the first film and Naomie Harris. But this is 28 years later, and we don't know what's happened to them [Jim and Selena]. I'm not allowed to tell you, but these two are more than worthy stand-ins."
As per the official synopsis of 28 Years Later, 'It's been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well."
The movie stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O'Connell, Alfie Williams and Ralph Fiennes.
