Who Is Haider Ali? UAE's Lahore-Born Left-Arm Spinner Stuns Bangladesh In Series Decider
UAE's Haider Ali bowled a stunning spell of 4-1-7-3 to lead his team to a seven-wicket win against Bangladesh in the T20I series decider in Sharjah.
UAE's rookie left-arm spinner Haider Ali on Wednesday bowled a brilliant spell to catch the Bangladesh team off-guard, as the visitors slumped to an unprecedented seven-wicket defeat in Sharjah, losing a three-match T20I series 1-2, as their stakes in the shortest format touched a new low.
A late bloomer, the 30-year-old Haider made his international debut in the first game of the series against Bangladesh. He went for 30 runs in his four overs in that match and returned wicketless.
After returning 0/31 in the second T20I, Haider spun a web in the third, picking three wickets while conceding only seven runs from his four overs.

Having been put in to bat first, Bangladesh found themselves at 84/8 in the 14th over, before wicketkeeper Jaker Ali and Hasan Mahmud added 44 runs for the ninth wicket.
After Jaker was dismissed by Saghir Khan, Hasan and Shoriful Islam built a 34-run partnership for the 10th wicket to take Bangladesh to a respectable score of 162.
Haider dismissed captain Litton Das for 14, Towhid Hridoy for a two-ball duck, and Mahedi Hasan for 2, to finish with figures of 4-1-7-3.
Dhruv Parashar dismissed Bangladesh opener Parvez Hossain Emon with his first ball in the second over of the innings.
Haider, introduced in the attack in the fourth over, struck gold as well, trapping Litton LBW with his first delivery.
Two deliveries later, Haider had Towhid Hridoy LBW as well, this time with a quicker ball. He returned for his second over inside the powerplay and finished things off with another wicket off the last delivery, cleaning up Mahedi Hasan's stumps to leave Bangladesh reeling at 49/4.
In the chase, UAE lost Muhammad Waseem in the second over, before Muhammad Zohaib and Alishan Sharafu added 44 runs for the second wicket. After getting reduced to 79/3 in the 11th over, Sharafu and Asif Khan added 87 runs for the fourth wicket to take UAE over the line.
Haider's spell of 4-1-7-3 is now the joint second-most economical four-over spell by an UAE bowler in men's T20Is, equalling Aayan Afzal Khan's 4-1-7-3 against Cambodia last year.
This is the most economical four-over spell by an UAE bowler against a full-member team in men's T20Is, going past Mohammad Naveed's previous record of 4-1-12-2, set nine years back, against Bangladesh as well.
Who Is Haider Ali?
Born in July 1994 in Lahore, Haider made his List A debut for Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited in September 2018 against the Karachi Whites and bowled an economical spell of 10-0-33-0.
Haider made his first-class debut three days later and bowled a spell of 35-1-113-3, dismissing two set opposition batters in the first innings.
Although it isn't clear as to when Haider moved to UAE, it looks like a very recent move, given that his debut has come only this month.

"Need To Seize Small Moments During Big Games": Mithali Raj On India Women For ODI World Cup
Former captain Mithali Raj feels India can end their long-standing trophy drought if they seize key moments and swing the momentum in their favour during big games at the upcoming Women's ODI World Cup. Hosts India will enter next month's World Cup as tournament favourites alongside Australia and England. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led 'Women in Blue' will be chasing their maiden world title, having fallen short twice in the finals in the 50-over format. "I think (India) needs to seize those small moments during the big games," Raj told ICC Digital. "That's where the balance (is) of the teams which are in contention. They try and use more of those moments and try to shift the momentum to their side and India need to seize those moments," she added. Raj, who led India to the World Cup finals in 2005 and 2017, feels a title triumph would have a transformative impact on the women's game in the country. "I think it would be huge. I mean, that is something that all the players, whoever picks up the bat, whoever wants to represent the country would want to win the World Cup because so far India hasn't," she said. "Yes, we've come close twice, but we haven't got our hands on the Cup. It would be great to win a World Cup at home because that's a very different stage giving all of us an opportunity to see that." India's recent white-ball tour of England saw youngsters Kranti Goud and Shree Charani make their mark, with the team clinching both the T20I and ODI series. Raj was particularly impressed by 22-year-old pace sensation Goud. "I was quite impressed with Kranti Goud in England with her raw talent," Raj noted. "She has played WPL (Women's Premier League) but she does not really have that much experience. "But the grit that she gets as a seamer trying to keep pegging in and getting wickets (is impressive) and she picked up a six-wicket haul (in England) as well so I would love to see her in the World Cup playing at home." The Women's World Cup begins on September 30, with India opening their campaign against co-hosts Sri Lanka.

Glenn Maxwell eyes powerplay bowling role for Australia in Men's T20 World Cup 2026
Glenn Maxwell has expressed his ambition to play a more prominent role as a powerplay bowler for Australia in the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. In T20Is, Maxwell has taken 49 wickets in 123 matches, with an economy rate of 8.17. His variations and accuracy make him a potent weapon, enabling Australia to capitalise on early breakthroughs and maintain Read: Drop Babar Azam. But does it guarantee a Pakistan turnaround in ODIs? Speaking ahead of the third T20I against South Africa in Cairns on August 16, Maxwell believes that, in subcontinental conditions, spinners can extract more from the new ball, particularly on dry surfaces where the hard seam enhances grip.'I love getting wickets'He also admitted that he is often surprised when taking wickets but emphasised his focus on executing his role effectively during the powerplay."I think in the sub-continent you might be able to get a little bit more out of it as a spinner early on. Especially that new ball, the hard seam, being able to grip on those dry surfaces. So it might be something we think about heading forward,' Maxwell told the reporters on Thursday."I'm just as surprised as anyone when I get a wicket. I love getting wickets. It's very surprising anytime I get anyone out. I'm there to do a job in the PowerPlay and I'm trying to execute that as well as I can,' Maxwell has been a key performer in the PowerPlay, claiming 17 of his 49 T20I wickets during those early overs. His IPL numbers are even more impressive: since 2022, he's maintained a solid economy rate of 7.30 in the first six overs, picking up eight important wickets in the the ongoing series against the Proteas, Maxwell has claimed three wickets but has conceded runs at an economy rate of 9.12.
