Teen charged with attempted murder in attack on girl in Quadeville, Ont.
The eight-year-old girl had been missing for hours on June 24 when she was found with potentially life-threatening injuries in the woods in the village roughly 60 kilometres southwest of Renfrew.
At the time, police said they suspected an animal attack had led to the girl's injuries.
In a news release Wednesday night, OPP said they had charged a teenage male from eastern Ontario with attempted murder and sexual assault with a weapon on a person under 16 years old.
Because of the youth's age, they cannot be named.
Police said the young girl remains in hospital.
More to come.

Soulja Boy has been arrested following a traffic stop in Los Angeles, according to reports, just four months after the rapper was found liable for sexually assaulting and kidnapping his former assistant. The Grammy-nominated rapper, born DeAndre Cortez Way, was apprehended by LA authorities during an early-morning traffic stop on Sunday, Aug. 3, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to Variety and NBC4 Los Angeles. Soulja, 35, was reportedly the passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over at the intersection of Melrose and Genesee avenues. Police told Variety and NBC News that a firearm was spotted inside the vehicle, which led to the rapper's arrest on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm. USA TODAY has reached out to the LAPD and representatives for Soulja Boy for comment. Soulja Boy legal trouble: Rapper found liable of sexual assault, kidnapping of former assistant The "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" emcee's arrest comes after he was found liable for assault and kidnapping allegations brought by a woman who claimed she was his former assistant. Man dies in Quebec City residential fire
A man died and a woman was injured after a fire erupted in a row housing development in Quebec City on Saturday night. Quebec City's fire department said that at around 10:55 p.m., several calls were made to 911 to report a fire at a residential building on Gingras Street. According to Bill Noonan, spokesperson for the Service de protection contre l'incendie de Québec, dispatch details indicate that flames could be seen escaping from a residence and windows were bursting from the heat. A woman was also reported being on part of the building's front roof. Firefighters at the scene entered the burning building and located an unconscious man on the second floor, brought him outside and began resuscitation, Noonan explained in a statement. But the 54-year-old man was pronounced dead. "No smoke alarm sounds were heard by the first firefighters on the scene," Noonan said. He added that, when the first firefighters arrived, a woman was lying on the ground outside with burns. She was then taken to hospital. The fire was extinguished a few hours after it broke out. Around 60 firefighters were involved in the operation. Quebec City's local police will investigate the cause and circumstances of the incident.
