Wedding bells are ringing, but not everyone is celebrating. Last week's two-episode Season 3 premiere brought heartbreak, lots of drama and a surprise proposal that left many fans reeling. The next new episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty is now streaming on Prime Video, so here's a full recap of everything that went down.
As a quick refresher for what happened last week, Belly is finishing up her junior year at Finch College and preparing for a magical summer in Cousins. Jeremiah is supposed to graduate but can't due to missing credits, meaning he'll have to be a super senior and take classes in the fall. This complicates Belly's plans after she learns she's been accepted into the Paris study abroad program for the fall of her senior year.
Belly and Jeremiah's relationship has had its ups and downs over the past four years, but nothing could have prepared viewers for what happened next. At a frat party, Belly overhears a girl named Lacie claiming she hooked up with Jair in Cabo during Spring Break. Technically, Belly and Jair were on a break at the time after an argument — but they got back together as soon as he returned, and he never mentioned that he had slept with someone else.
Belly breaks up with Jeremiah and struggles to come to terms with how he could have done something so hurtful, even though he believed they were no longer together. But her feelings begin to shift after Steven gets into a serious car accident. Jeremiah waits overnight at the hospital while keeping his distance. After Steven wakes up from his coma, Belly and Jelly reconcile. He proposes to her outside the hospital and she says yes.
The engagement news will likely come as a shock to everyone — especially Belly's ex and Jeremiah's brother, Conrad, who is studying to become a doctor at Stanford. He had planned to visit Cousins for his mom's dedication but backs out after securing a coveted summer clinical residency alongside his pre-med friend, Agnes. However, the residency doesn't last long: Conrad gets himself fired after refusing to take a break upon hearing about Steven's accident, which leads to him mislabeling blood vials.
Spoilers ahead for The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, Episode 1.
Episode 3 begins with Jeremiah and Belly in post-engagement bliss. He finally gets down on one knee and officially proposes with a tiny ring in his dorm room. Jeremiah tries to keep their engagement a secret until the weekend in Cousins — until he starts shouting it from his dorm window for everyone to hear.
Belly breaks the engagement news to Taylor, and her best friend does not take it well. When Belly reminds her that she was the one who encouraged her to forgive Jeremiah after the cheating incident, Taylor clarifies that she meant talk to him, not get married. Still, Taylor reluctantly promises to keep the engagement a secret. As for Taylor, she's still heartbroken over Steven ending their situationship in the previous episode. He's now recovering from the accident at home, secretly squeezing in work sessions despite being on bed rest.
Agnes checks in with Conrad after he gets kicked out of the summer program. He's considering applying for another position at Garth Lab, this time working in research rather than with patients. Meanwhile, Belly returns home after finishing her junior year. During the car ride, her dad suspects she might be onto him about hooking up with her mom, but in reality, she's lost in thought about the engagement she's hiding.
Conrad doesn't want to go to Cousins for his mom's dedication, but Agnes urges him to face his feelings. When he tells her she doesn't know what it's like, she responds, 'Do you mean I have no idea what it's like to be in unrequited love with someone who's never going to feel the same way back?' — hinting at her romantic feelings for him. She explains that she stuck it out and worked through it, and that's exactly what Conrad needs to do to normalize the situation with Jeremiah and Belly.
Taylor visits Belly and apologizes for how she acted earlier at the coffee shop. Belly asks her to be her maid of honor, and she accepts. Taylor even pulls out an old scrapbook they made filled with their dream wedding inspiration. She tells Belly that she's going to need her, because once Laurel finds out, it's going to be a full-fledged apocalypse.
Belly meets Jeremiah at the dedication at the women's shelter and tells him her dad won't be able to make it, which is a bummer, since she wanted her whole family there when they shared the news. Conrad took Agnes advice and shows up at the dedication, taking Belly and Jeremiah by surprise. She and Jeremiah decide to hold off on announcing their engagement and keep the day focused on Susannah.
But Belly changes her mind. During dinner with their families, Adam and Laurel go around sharing their kids' accomplishments and bright futures. When Adam refers to Jeremiah as a super senior and downplays his future plans, Belly steps in and says that Jeremiah actually does have big plans — and so does she. In fact, they have big plans together.
'We're getting married… in August,' Belly announces. Laurel immediately asks if it's a joke. Adam turns to Jeremiah and demands to know what he's dragged Belly into, while Steven asks if they're being serious right now. Laurel then asks if her daughter is pregnant, and Belly and Jeremiah say no.
Laurel tells Belly that if they wanted to take the next step — like moving in together or fostering a cat — that would've made more sense, but marriage is too much. Adam tells Jeremiah he hopes he doesn't think he's getting his mother's ring, and Jeremiah replies that he didn't expect it. Conrad is basically just sitting there in shock, while Laurel abruptly cancels the entire dinner… just as the seafood tower arrives.
Belly and Jeremiah get up and walk out of the restaurant together. Jeremiah says they'll come around (they have to, right?). Laurel pulls Belly into the car, and everyone leaves separately. Conrad is the last to leave the restaurant, his face filled with confusion, maybe regret, and definitely shock.
They knew their parents' reactions would be intense, but did they expect the announcement of their marriage plans to blow up this badly? That said, their families' concerns aren't unwarranted: they're both young, Belly hasn't explored life outside of the Fisher brothers and Jeremiah still needs to get his life on track. It will also be interesting to see more of Conrad's reaction in the next episode, because this definitely wasn't the definition of 'exposure therapy' Agnes had in mind.
The next episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 airs on Wednesday, July 30. Check out the full release schedule below.

Étoile Season 2: Release date speculation, cast and plot details – Everything we know so far

By Aman Shukla Published on July 29, 2025, 19:00 IST Last updated July 29, 2025, 13:53 IST The ballet world got a dazzling new spotlight with Étoile , the latest creation from Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino. This comedy-drama series, which premiered on Prime Video in April 2025, twirled its way into viewers' hearts with its sharp dialogue, vibrant characters, and breathtaking dance sequences. After an explosive first season, fans are itching to know what's next. Will the drama between New York and Paris ballet companies deepen? What's in store for the star-crossed dancers? Here's a deep dive into everything known about Étoile Season 2, from release date guesses to cast updates and juicy plot predictions. Étoile Season 2 Potential Release Date When Étoile was greenlit in 2023, Prime Video gave it a confident two-season order, a rare move that had fans buzzing with excitement. However, the journey to Season 2 hit a snag. In June 2025, reports surfaced that the second season was cancelled due to production costs outweighing performance metrics. Yet, hope isn't lost. The Palladinos, known for Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel , have hinted at 'plots and plans' for Season 2, suggesting they're eager to continue the story if given the chance. If Season 2 gets back on track, production timelines offer clues. The first season took roughly two years from announcement to premiere, with filming in New York and Paris wrapping up before the April 2025 debut. Assuming a similar schedule, a revived Season 2 could aim for a release in mid-to-late 2026, likely spring or summer. Étoile Season 2 Expected Cast The casting on Étoile was a major highlight — a mix of seasoned actors and real-life ballet dancers that brought serious authenticity to the show. No confirmed list for Season 2 yet, but if it does move forward, most of the main cast is expected to return. Luke Kirby as Jack McMillan, the ever-charming New York artistic director who's now caught in a complicated romantic mess. Charlotte Gainsbourg as Geneviève Lavigne, the elegant Paris ballet boss, who's hinted she'd love to come back. Lou de Laâge as Cheyenne Toussant, the fiercely talented ballerina whose steamy kiss with Jack in the finale has fans screaming. David Haig might return, depending on whether his character Nicholas recovers from that sudden stroke. Gideon Glick, David Alvarez, Yanic Truesdale, and Kelly Bishop (yes, Emily Gilmore herself) all played key roles — and likely haven't had their final curtain call. Real-life dancers like Tiler Peck, Constance Devernay, and Arcadian Broad added a lot to the realism and beauty of the show's ballet scenes, so expect to see them again too — maybe with a few new faces shaking things up. Étoile Season 2 Potential Plot Season 1 left off with a flurry of big moments: surprise kisses, a power vacuum in New York, and tensions rising between the Paris and NYC companies. If Season 2 happens, it's going to dive headfirst into that messy love triangle between Jack, Cheyenne, and Geneviève. And given the Palladinos' style, we're guessing emotional stakes and career drama will both hit new highs. Will Cheyenne take charge in New York? Will Nicholas make a comeback and stir the pot? What's Tobias Bell — the eccentric choreographer now in Paris — really up to? There are a lot of loose threads, and the show's creators have teased that Season 2 would put characters in 'tough positions,' both professionally and personally. Stylistically, you can expect more of that signature Palladino touch — fast-talking banter, quirky side characters, and the kind of rich visual storytelling that made ballet feel electric even to viewers who've never set foot in an opera house. Some critics thought Season 1 tried to juggle too much at once, so if it returns, Season 2 might be a bit more focused — while still delivering the chaos and charm fans have come to love.
