Prince Harry's sour rift with William poses awkward dilemma as big royal event looms

Daily Mirror6 days ago
It could be in the near future that the Royal Family will get to enjoy a very happy event - but it could prove awkward for warring brothers Prince William and Prince Harry
A royal wedding is seemingly on the cards after a much-loved member of the family announced he is engaged.

Princess Anne's son Peter Phillips revealed he popped the question to his girlfriend Harriet Sperling after a year of dating, with his fiancé being spotted at several high profile events, including Royal Ascot.

Peter's uncle King Charles is said to have been delighted with the news as was his close cousin Prince William and his wife Kate. Although no date is believed to have been set for any nuptials yet, many have wondered who might bag an invite, especially as Peter is thought to be close to both estranged brothers, William and Prince Harry. It comes after news that Prince Harry will 'never be forgiven' by two major royals despite reconciliation hope.

And for former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, it could prove awkward when it comes to a guest list, but predicts there could be a surprise.
She explained to the Mirror: "It seems that Harriet is already a hit in the Royal family. It was quite an accolade for her to be invited to join the carriage possession at Royal Ascot, and she was seen chatting animatedly with the King.

"Given that both she and Peter are divorced, I suspect their wedding may be a fairly low-key civil ceremony. But Peter is very popular in the family and so the reception could well be at Windsor Castle or another royal residence.
"As with all weddings, there will be a conundrum about who to invite. Peter was always very close to both William and Harry. During the difficult times he has been something of a buffer, for example, walking between them at the funeral of their grandfather, Prince Philip.
"However, it's going to be awkward for him to invite them both to his wedding. On the other hand, both William and Harry attended the funeral of their uncle, Lord Fellowes, and even though they were in the same church and then the same room it seems they did not speak. So, anything is possible.

"All things considered, it might be better for Peter and Harriet to have a quiet wedding with just a few friends and family present."
Peter, 47, was previously married to Autumn Kelly, with whom he has two daughters Isla and Savannah. He also dated long-term partner Lindsay Wallace before they split last year and he later found love with Harriet, an NHS nurse.

In April 2024, it was revealed that Peter had split with previous girlfriend Lindsay, who were said to have amicably separated with work commitments proving a stumbling block for the pair.
His split with Lindsay came four years after it was announced Peter and ex-wife Autumn had called time on their marriage after 12 years - marking a tumultuous time for his love life.
Peter married his first wife Autumn back in May 2008 in a grand ceremony at St George's Chapel in Windsor, with guests including the late Queen and Prince Philip as well as his cousin Prince Harry. Although Prince William was unable to make it, the Princess of Wales was invited, despite being unmarried at the time - and it is believed the wedding marked the first time she met the late Queen.

The couple spent time living in Hong Kong through Peter's previous job with the Royal Bank of Scotland and eventually settled back in the UK with their two daughters Savannah, 14, the late Queen's oldest great-grandchild and Isla, 13.
However, towards the end of 2019, the couple separated and revealed they had taken the difficult step in an emotional statement in 2020.
When they married in 2008, the couple raised eyebrows when the pictures from the wedding were sold to a magazine for a large sum.
And Jennie added: "I imagine Peter has learnt his lesson from his first wedding, when he sold the picture rights to a magazine for £500,000. It did not go down well with the Queen or the palace, who said it had been 'a serious error of judgement'."

Aaron Dingle and ex-husband Robert Sugden finally confess their true feelings in an upcoming episode, and one thing leads to another. ‌ With a concerned Aaron desperate to help Robert amid his spiralling mental health, he tells his soulmate (let's face it) that he "just needs to get him better". As an emotional Robert shares his fears that he has no one and nothing left, thoughts put in his mind by his evil brother John Sugden, Aaron's confused as to why Robert would think he "didn't want to know". ‌ It's then that he admits how he really feels and why he's been so distant, amid his marriage to John. It comes as spoilers confirmed the pair would give into temptation amid hopes from fans that Robron will reunite, ahead of killer John's downfall. ‌ In the new video preview we see the aftermath of Robert breaking down and trashing his room. Unable to take anymore he loses control with Aaron forced to intervene, shocked by just how broken Robert is. As the pair head downstairs, a numb Robert is on the sofa as Aaron does his best to comfort him. He's desperate to get him some help, while Robert considers leaving and claims he has nothing left in the village to keep him there. Aaron soon confesses what's really been going on, and how he has deliberately pushed Robert away to avoid temptation. He says: "We both know what will happen if we get too close." As Robert asks if they are both "fighting feelings", Aaron says: "I didn't say that. Right now all that matters is getting you better while you have still got people who care about you." ‌ Robert suggests his sister Victoria doesn't want to know him after the incident with Harry, with John telling him as such. Aaron adds: "She loves you. She wants to help you, I wanna help you. Even John does and he knows all about PTSD from the army." As Robert tries to change the topic he makes a jibe about Aaron's cooking, sending them on a brief trip down memory lane. But Robert's soon left sad again, telling Aaron: "Thanks for being here. I'm sure you've got better things to do than sit around with your tragic ex." Aaron replies: "No, not really. I've missed you." As the pair stare for a moment Robert leans in and kisses Aaron, with him soon reciprocating. One thing leads to another - but will they be caught out? BBC's Survivor is 'AXED after just one series' despite bosses splurging £30 million on the reboot series

The BBC has reportedly pulled the plug on big-budget challenge series Survivor, despite splashing the cash on the reboot. The reality show which had a prime time slot straight after Strictly Come is understood to have cost the BBC £30 million, failed to win over UK viewers, averaging just 2.6million when it aired last October. After months of speculation, host Joel Dommett confirmed the axe and admitted to The Sun: 'It just shows you how nothing is a given in telly. I thought Survivor would be huge. I thought that would be my job for the next 20 years.' The TV presenter, 40, added: 'I've done shows and thought that's not coming back and it keeps coming back and then you do something like Survivor, which you think is guaranteed and it doesn't come back.' The challenge show sees contestants live on a remote location where they are tasked with fending for themselves by sourcing food and water, building shelter, and making fire, all while trying to earn rewards and immunity from being voted off the island. The hit format has enjoyed global success, especially in the US, where it's run for 25 years, but it seems the UK version, failed to translate. Despite a previous attempt by ITV, which ended after two series in 2001 and 2002, the BBC tried to revive the format when it premiered last October and filmed in the Dominican Republic. It is thought producers had hoped to cash in on the nostalgia of the early-2000s version, but bosses were left scratching their heads at the lack of love for a concept 'beloved around the globe'. The cancellation comes just a year after filming wrapped, with a source telling The Sun that executives had been debating the show's future since its lukewarm launch. Despite the flop, Joel remains in high demand and is set to front the National Television Awards in September and star in ITV's new Celebrity Sabotage. Earlier this month The Daily Mail reported that the BBC did seek potential contestants for a second series, at the end of last year, via their 'take part' page. However, a note on the Survivor UK website says casting has now been paused, adding: 'As things stand, we are not processing or taking any further applications at this time.' Staff on the show have all moved to other projects. Paul Osborne, who successfully brought Big Brother to Channel 5, was the showrunner for the BBC, and took soundings from format consultants around the world about how it should be updated. Osborne said at the launch: 'There were lots and lots of things we learned from other territories, while we were also able to put our own stamp on this. 'There is a little more strategic gameplay with the new version that is palpable for a modern audience.' Survivor was commissioned by Kalpna Patel-Knight, the BBC's head of entertainment, who described its return as a 'renaissance rather than a reboot'. She had hoped it would attract an audience similar to the Beeb's smash-hit The Traitors. Sixteen episodes were filmed in 34 days, with 100 camera crew from the UK, plus more than 400 local workers. The £100,000 top prize was won by graduate Matthew Hayward, from Cumbria. The two original series had a prize of £1 million.

Kate and William's fresh start: Prince and Princess of Wales to move family to new eight-bedroom 'forever home' in Windsor after Kate's cancer battle

Prince William and Princess Kate are set to move their family from Adelaide Cottage to a new 'forever home' by the end of the year, an insider has said. The couple, along with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, reportedly plan to relocate to the eight-bedroom Forest Lodge property in Windsor Great Park. A source told The Sun the family are hoping for a 'fresh start' after a difficult time at Adelaide Cottage, during which Queen Elizabeth died and Kate and Charles received cancer diagnoses. Renovations are reportedly underway at the property to enable it to be ready for the family to move in before the end of the year. The publication reports that planning applications show how minor work has already begun at the Grade-II listed lodge, with renovations reportedly set to be funded by the couple themselves. A source close to the family reportedly told the tabloid: 'Windsor has become their home. However, over the last few years while they have lived at Adelaide Cottage there have been some really difficult times. "Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter; an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind.' The home offers spectacular views and football fan William will be able to see the Wembley Arch from his bedroom window. And Kate has already been spotted picking new furniture to kit out the new abode, including a 24-seater table. The family first moved to Windsor in 2022, where they settled at the humble Adelaide Cottage. It is believed the move out of London was to allow the family to be closer to the late Queen, who died just weeks later, and to give the children a more ordinary way of life with more privacy. The family have no live-in staff at their current home, with this also reportedly set to be the case once they move into this bigger abode.
