Convene special session of Pondy Assembly to discuss ways to raise funds: Opposition leader
DMK Puducherry convenor R. Siva has urged Chief Minister N. Rangasamy to convene a special session of the Assembly to elicit views of the legislators on ways to raise funds for implementing schemes announced in the Budget.
In a statement, the Opposition leader said the Chief Minister had announced in the 2025-26 Budget, the government's decision to increase the monthly financial assistance given to women heads of BPL families to ₹2,500. The Chief Minister had made the announcement with the hope of getting additional funds from the Central government, he said.
'However, the BJP government with an intention to malign the name of the Chief Minister did not provide additional funds. With the Central government not coming to the aid of the Union Territory, the Chief Minister was compelled to raise liquor prices and GLR value. The government should convene a special session to discuss the issue,' he said.
The decision to dump additional burden on people after announcing a tax-free Budget was undemocratic, the Opposition leader said adding that the views of the legislators should be solicited to plan implementation of schemes in the wake of the Centre not providing assistance.

'A choice between dirty fingernails and manicured nails,' he days ago, progressive upstart Mamdani declared a stunning Democratic primary victory over former Gov. His energetic campaign, known for its viral social media videos, has won major momentum through a laser-focus on improving the city's astronomical cost of the same time, Mamdani has endured heat for his past criticisms of law enforcement, thin legislative record and lofty campaign even with all his political baggage, has seemed to relish a general election matchup with Mamdani, seeing a potentially viable lane to reelection if he goes up against the relatively inexperienced progressive.'I'm not interesting in twitter politics, I'm interested in getting the trash picked up,' Adams told his supporters Thursday, digging at Mamdani. 'I'm not interested in slogans, I'm in interested in solutions.'Adams, still a registered Democrat, pulled out of the primary to run as an independent candidate in April, shortly after a federal judge dismissed the corruption case against him at the request of President Donald Trump's Justice Department. The mayor had argued that the legal saga had sidelined him from the campaign trail. He has done little in the way of campaigning since as the results in Tuesday's primary were coming in, showing Mamdani with a commanding position, Adams underscored his own independent run with a post on social media that 'the fight for New York's future begins tonight.'Results will be finalized after the city's ranked choice vote-counting resumes July 1, and the winner advances to November's election against candidates including Republican Curtis Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels anti-crime 64, is a retired police captain who later became a state senator and Brooklyn's borough president. Party will decide about seat sharing in alliance: CPM
Trichy: CPM state secretary P Shanmugam has stated the party will decide internally on the number of seats it will demand from the DMK for the upcoming elections. "We are not under pressure from the DMK. We will decide the number of seats we want. Other parties in the alliance should not dictate our demands," Shanmugam, who was attending a two-day state body meeting, told reporters in Trichy on Thursday. Shanmugam downplayed any internal discord within the DMK-led INDI alliance. He added, "Our main focus in the elections is to defeat the BJP-AIADMK alliance, though no one wants to contest fewer seats." Shanmugam also acknowledged the rise in right-wing sentiments in the state, saying, "There is no denying the growth of the right wing. We are working to unite secular forces on one platform." During the meeting, several resolutions were passed. Shanmugam condemned the Union government's decision to raise train ticket prices and criticized its allocation of funds, noting that more money was directed toward the development of Sanskrit than to other classical languages like Tamil. The CPM also criticized the state government's move to introduce dialysis services in upgraded Primary Health Centres (PHCs) under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The party extended its support to the national strike called by central labour unions on July 9 to protest the Centre's "anti-worker policies."

BJP alliance is in danger, fake bhakti will not cut ice in TN: Stalin
Chennai, June 26 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin today charged the BJP with attempting to foment religious polarisation to reap electoral dividend. "Misusing God will not yield political mileage and neither will fake bhakti cut ice in Tamil Nadu," he said. 'They are now misusing God to gain political mileage. They are only worried about religion and not about people. Their propaganda that religion is in danger will not cut ice in Tamil Nadu as the people will reject them,' the Chief Minister said. Stalin took a dig at the Sangh Parivar which held the conference of Murugan devotees in Madurai on Sunday last. He was speaking at an official event in Mandalavadi in Tirupattur district, where he inaugurated completed developmental works and laid the foundation stone for new projects besides distributing welfare assistance to beneficiaries. 'We raise the issues of recession, slowing down of growth and unemployment. But, what is the mindset of those at the helm in the Union government? They continue to strive to divide and polarise the people of Tamil Nadu on the lines of religion and caste. As they are unable to accomplish this, they take the support of the All India Anna DMK (AIADMK) and are least concerned about the people but only about religion. This is their politics,' said Stalin. 'This is the land of Periyar (rationalist Dravidian icon EV Ramasamy), which was made cultivable by Anna (DMK founder and former Chief Minister CN Annadurai) and raised by Kalaignar (DMK patriarch and former chief minister M Karunanidhi). People of all religions live here in peace and harmony with their rights assured,' said the Chief Minister. 'In the last four years, we have completed the consecration of 3,000 temples, a historic feat, allocated Rs 84 crore for renovation of mosques and churches. This is unpalatable for those engaged in communal politics. Further, they could not stomach the great strides that the government had achieved despite the Union government's discriminatory financial allocation,' said Stalin. Turning his ire at the AIADMK, he accused the party of having its name after Anna but pledging the leader's name as well as the party (to the BJP). 'The crowd at the helm of the party bearing the name of Anna, remained a mute spectator to the video in which Anna and other Dravidian icons were ridiculed (at the Murugan conference). We should not allow them to pawn Tamil Nadu tomorrow,' he said. The Murugan conference was organised by the Hindu Munnani, an RSS affiliate, in which apart from BJP leader and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena Party (JSP) president Pawan Kalyan targeted the DMK, painting it as anti- Hindu. A resolution passed at the conference demanded that the state exit from the administration of temples and it be handed over to the devotees. A video played at the conference in the presence of AIADMK leaders, lampooning Dravidian icons, has created ripples in the AIADMK-BJP alliance. Stalin and the DMK's allies have used it to create a wedge between the BJP and the AIADMK, turning the alliance tenuous. UNI MCR PRS
