BJP alliance is in danger, fake bhakti will not cut ice in TN: Stalin
Chennai, June 26 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin today charged the BJP with attempting to foment religious polarisation to reap electoral dividend. "Misusing God will not yield political mileage and neither will fake bhakti cut ice in Tamil Nadu," he said.
'They are now misusing God to gain political mileage. They are only worried about religion and not about people. Their propaganda that religion is in danger will not cut ice in Tamil Nadu as the people will reject them,' the Chief Minister said.
Stalin took a dig at the Sangh Parivar which held the conference of Murugan devotees in Madurai on Sunday last. He was speaking at an official event in Mandalavadi in Tirupattur district, where he inaugurated completed developmental works and laid the foundation stone for new projects besides distributing welfare assistance to beneficiaries.
'We raise the issues of recession, slowing down of growth and unemployment. But, what is the mindset of those at the helm in the Union government? They continue to strive to divide and polarise the people of Tamil Nadu on the lines of religion and caste. As they are unable to accomplish this, they take the support of the All India Anna DMK (AIADMK) and are least concerned about the people but only about religion. This is their politics,' said Stalin.
'This is the land of Periyar (rationalist Dravidian icon EV Ramasamy), which was made cultivable by Anna (DMK founder and former Chief Minister CN Annadurai) and raised by Kalaignar (DMK patriarch and former chief minister M Karunanidhi). People of all religions live here in peace and harmony with their rights assured,' said the Chief Minister.
'In the last four years, we have completed the consecration of 3,000 temples, a historic feat, allocated Rs 84 crore for renovation of mosques and churches. This is unpalatable for those engaged in communal politics. Further, they could not stomach the great strides that the government had achieved despite the Union government's discriminatory financial allocation,' said Stalin.
Turning his ire at the AIADMK, he accused the party of having its name after Anna but pledging the leader's name as well as the party (to the BJP). 'The crowd at the helm of the party bearing the name of Anna, remained a mute spectator to the video in which Anna and other Dravidian icons were ridiculed (at the Murugan conference). We should not allow them to pawn Tamil Nadu tomorrow,' he said.
The Murugan conference was organised by the Hindu Munnani, an RSS affiliate, in which apart from BJP leader and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena Party (JSP) president Pawan Kalyan targeted the DMK, painting it as anti- Hindu.
A resolution passed at the conference demanded that the state exit from the administration of temples and it be handed over to the devotees.
A video played at the conference in the presence of AIADMK leaders, lampooning Dravidian icons, has created ripples in the AIADMK-BJP alliance. Stalin and the DMK's allies have used it to create a wedge between the BJP and the AIADMK, turning the alliance tenuous.

ACB Files Case Against AAP's Jain, Bharadwaj
New Delhi: The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) has registered a case against former health ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj and Satyendar Jain, besides some govt officials and private contractors, alleging large-scale corruption in Delhi govt's health infrastructure projects. The investigation is claimed to have revealed massive irregularities, unexplained delays and significant misappropriation of funds in the construction of various hospitals, polyclinics and ICU infrastructure across the city. ACB is in the process of sending summons to the two former AAP ministers as well as a few govt officers of the health and PWD departments, proprietors of two private firms, contractors and some private individuals, according to sources. "Substantial deviations and cost escalations, amounting to several hundred crores, were observed. Not a single project was completed within the prescribed timeline. According to ACB, 24 hospital projects worth Rs 5,590 crore were sanctioned in 2018-19, but these were plagued by inexplicable delays and astronomical cost overruns, indicating massive financial embezzlement. "Similarly, the Rs 1,125 crore ICU Hospital Project, covering seven pre-engineered facilities with a total of 6,800 beds, remains only 50% complete after nearly three years and expenditure of Rs 800 crore, despite an initial six-month completion timeline," ACB said. The probe claimed to have revealed unauthorised additional construction at govt hospitals in Jwalapuri — by M/s Parnika Commercial & Estate Pvt Ltd — and Madipur — by M/s Ramacivil India Construction Pvt Ltd — carried out without approval from competent authorities. Notably, the Madipur hospital project was to be completed by Nov 2022, but remains abandoned and far from completion, states the FIR. Further, it was revealed that the seven ICU hospitals, contracted to M/s SAM India Buildwell Pvt Ltd, witnessed cost escalations exceeding 100%, with construction still incomplete well beyond the deadline of Feb 2022. "The new block at LNJP Hospital, awarded to M/s Swadeshi Civil Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, saw project costs escalate from Rs 488 crore to Rs 1,135 crore over four years, with the structure still incomplete beyond its Jan 2023 deadline," the FIR added. Additionally, the polyclinic project also indicated misuse of funds -- only 52 out of 94 planned clinics were constructed, while the cost rose from Rs 168 crore to Rs 220 crore. Many of these polyclinics remain non-functional, ACB said. "Despite a public announcement in 2016–17, the Health Information Management System (HIMS) -- a crucial tool for ensuring financial transparency in the health department -- remained unimplemented. A free, cost-effective solution from NIC (e-Hospital) was deliberately rejected without justification," ACB said. Based on the findings, a proposal seeking prior approval under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act was submitted against the former health ministers. The FIR was filed after an approval was received from lieutenant governor V K Saxena. "Accordingly, FIR No. 37/2025 dated June 26, 2025 under Section 13(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, read with Sections 409, 420, and 120-B of IPC, has been registered against Saurabh Bharadwaj, Satyendar Jain, yet to be identified govt officials, and private contractors. A comprehensive investigation has been launched to uncover the full extent of the alleged conspiracy and determine the roles and accountability of the former ministers, officials, and private entities involved," ACB added.

Sule says Shaktipeeth will hit state finances

"State govt must give a serious thought to the huge expenditure on the project, particularly in view of the critical financial situation of the state. It will take several decades to restore the situation. It will have a massive impact on the Marathi people," Sule said. Sule referred to a series of reports in a section of the media, saying there is strong opposition to the project from all sections. "When our financial situation is very bad, still we are in the process of securing a loan of Rs 30,000 crore, with an interest of 8.85%, it is beyond the financial capacity of the state to afford such a high interest," Sule said. Sule said that at a juncture when the state govt has failed to release the salaries of its own employees, while there is acute shortage of funds for water mission projects, the govt has secured huge loans for a project which has been opposed in all sections. ACB registers FIR against ex-Delhi ministers in corruption case
The Delhi Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) on Thursday registered a first information report (FIR) against former health ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj and Satyendar Jain in connection with alleged large-scale corruption in health infrastructure projects approved or executed during their tenures. The ACB sought permission for a probe in August 2024, on a complaint lodged by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Vijendra Gupta, alleging large-scale corruption in the health department. (Getty Images/iStockphoto) The FIR was filed under Section 13(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, which pertains to criminal misconduct by a public servant, and sections 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servants), 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), joint commissioner of police (ACB) Madhur Verma said. 'A comprehensive investigation has been launched to uncover the full extent of the alleged conspiracy and determine the roles and accountability of the former ministers, officials and private entities involved,' Verma said. In response, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) questioned why the FIR against Bharadwaj and Jain was being kept under wraps, and selective press notes being leaked. 'Is the FIR so baseless that the BJP fears it will become a national joke if released publicly?' it said in a statement. On Tuesday, officials aware of the matter said that the Centre, on the recommendation of lieutenant governor VK Saxena, gave its approval to initiate an investigation under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act against Bharadwaj and Jain. The ACB sought permission for a probe in August 2024, on a complaint lodged by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Vijendra Gupta, alleging large-scale corruption in the health department. The LG sent his recommendation to the Centre on May 6, officials said. The ACB will probe 24 hospital projects, including 11 greenfield (construction on unused land) and 13 brownfield (construction on land which was earlier used for other purposes) projects sanctioned in 2018-19 for a total of ₹ 5,590 crore, but are either delayed or have had their costs inflated, JCP Verma said. The ACB will also probe seven ICU (intensive care) hospitals, with a total bed capacity of 6,800, which were sanctioned at a cost of ₹ 1,125 crore in a six-month period starting September 2021. Three years on, only 50% of the work has been completed, and that too at a cost of ₹ 800 crore, Verma said. Verma said that verification of the complaint revealed unauthorised additional constructions at government hospitals in Jwalapuri, by M/s Parnika Commercial & Estate Pvt Ltd, and Madipur, by M/s Ramacivil India Construction Pvt Ltd, without approvals from competent authorities. 'The Madipur hospital project was to be completed by November 2022, but remains abandoned and far from completion,' Verma said. ACB officials said the seven ICU hospitals, contracted to M/s SAM India Buildwell Pvt Ltd, witnessed cost escalations exceeding 100%, with construction still incomplete beyond over the years, against the February 2022 deadline. 'Verification also found that the new block at Lok Nayak Hospital awarded to M/s Swadeshi Civil Infrastructure Pvt Ltd saw project costs escalate from ₹ 488 crores to ₹ 1,135 crores over four years, with the structure still incomplete beyond its January 2023 deadline' Verma said. ACB said that their preliminary probe found that the ministers repeatedly rejected cost-effective solutions, such as the NIC's e-hospital system, without justification. An official, requesting anonymity, said that while submitting the request for sanction, the ACB listed several corrupt activities which resulted in a loss to the government exchequer. In the request, the ACB cited repeated procedural lapses and planning failures that resulted in inflated expenditures. The department of vigilance forwarded the proposal to the Public Works Department (PWD) and the health and family welfare (H&FW) department, both of which supported the call for a probe. PWD officials recommended a 'thorough vigilance inquiry' to trace the chain of responsibility and identify violations. The departments also observed that upgrades and changes made after contracts were awarded led to further delays and cost overruns. Poor planning and imprecise estimates led to escalations, while disputes led to arbitration costs, imposing further financial strain on the exchequer. The two AAP leaders hit out at the charges framed under the FIR. In a statement, Bharadwaj said, 'The FIR would make it abundantly clear that, without any reasonable cause, only two former ministers have been named—while all health and PWD officers, who were actually responsible for executing the hospital projects, have been spared.' Jain said: 'There is, as yet, no evidence to suggest that these project sanctions were marred by corruption. Moreover, all these sanctions predate Saurabh Bharadwaj's tenure. How can a minister be held liable for actions taken two to five years before assuming office? Is this some kind of joke?'
