2.4K secondary grade teachers hired after 11 years in Tamil Nadu
The appointments were based on a TRB examination conducted in 2024, followed by certificate verification and counselling completed earlier this month. According to sources, the last recruitment of secondary grade teachers, who are posted in primary and middle schools, took place in 2014, when over 1,500 candidates were appointed.
Addressing the teachers, Udhayanidhi recalled welfare measures implemented by previous DMK governments for school teachers and stressed on the long-standing association between the Dravidian movement and teachers. Udhayanidhi said that for the first time in the history of the school education department, there are no vacancies of secondary grade teacher posts in hilly regions, and described the tenure of Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi as the golden age of the department.
Udhayanidhi also released books developed under the Thiran (Targeted Help for Improving Remediation & Academic Nurturing) scheme, aimed at enhancing language and mathematical skills of students in classes 6 to 9.

SIVAGANGA: Responding to a question about DMK criticizing the Centre for disputing the former Tamil Nadu ASI director Amarnath Ramakrishna's report on Keeladi excavation findings, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said that AIADMK would support Tamil Nadu government's stand on the matter pertaining to Keeladi excavation findings. While addressing the media after visiting the Keeladi museum in Sivaganga district on Wednesday morning, Palaniswami said that archeological excavations in Keeladi commenced when AIADMK was in power. Thousands of artefacts were unearthed from Keeladi during various phases of excavation. It was AIADMK which had allocated funds for establishing the on-site museum in Keeladi. He said that in 2018 samples from Keeladi were sent to a lab in Florida, USA which had confirmed that the same date back to 6th Century BCE. "Since AIADMK was not in power, we do not know about the details on the clarification sought for by the Centre from Amarnath Ramakrishna. However, we (AIADMK) would support the Tamil Nadu government's stand on this matter," he said. He interacted with the Ajith Kumar's mother and brother. While addressing the media persons, Palaniswami said that the police personnel who have the duty to safeguard the public were responsible for the death of Ajith Kumar. Only after the protests by the people and AIADMK party functionaries, the government transferred the case to CBI. Madras high court also took a serious view on the petition filed by an AIADMK advocate seeking probe in the custodial death matter. CPM, DMK councillors spar over Madurai's Swachh ranking
MADURAI: DMK and CPM councillors engaged in a heated exchange after the former condemned MP Su Venkatesan's remarks about Madurai city's performance in the Swachh Survekshan ranking. Madurai has been placed last among 40 cities in the 10-lakh population category. M Jeyaram, (ward 58) said, "The union government has deliberately given low ranking for TN cities. We do not accept it, the corporation is performing well, and it is condemnable that the Madurai MP has passed adverse remarks. " He said MP Venkatesan must attend the council meetings to know about the work done by the corporation in solving civic issues. "Instead of talking in public, the MP should speak to the union government and get funds so that all work could be carried out in an expeditious manner," Jeyaram added Responding to this, T Kumaravel (ward 23) elaborated about the funds allocated by MP Venkatesan for the city development. Crop loan circular withdrawn after AIADMK petition: Edappadi K Palaniswami
TIRUCHY: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami claimed it was after his party submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the state withdrew the circular mandating submission of CIBIL scores to avail crop loans. After submitting the memorandum to Modi, DMK was left with no choice but to withdraw the circular, said Palaniswami, who was on the way to Sivagangai district as part of his campaign. He said during his campaign in the delta districts, farmers had consistently raised the issue. Palaniswami said the state remained unresponsive despite his repeated appeals on behalf of the farmers. 'However, after the petition was submitted to the Prime Minister, the state government quickly issued a circular on July 28, stating the existing procedures for providing crop loans to farmers would continue unchanged. We are glad that the government has finally listened to the farmers' demand,' he said Answering to the question on which all parties are part of the NDA, he said currently both the AIADMK and the BJP are part of the alliance. There are other parties allied with the BJP as well and the full list of allies will be clear when election approaches.
