THE RUNDOWN:
Selena Gomez is revealing the origin story of her and Benny Blanco's relationship.
On the August 7 episode of the podcast Therapuss with Jake Shane, Gomez shared that she and Blanco first met when she was 16, when they were potentially going to work on music together. It didn't work out at the time (she didn't officially release music until a year or two later), so they would just occasionally see each other around.
'I feel like he was an acquaintance, if that makes sense,' she said. 'To be honest, we weren't besties. I just thought he was nice, and then we did a few songs together. [We did] 'Same Old Love,' which was awesome, and we had a great time... nothing really there. And then [we did] 'I Can't Get Enough,' which was with Tainy and J Balvin... didn't get it there either. I just thought he was funny, but I didn't think anything of it.'
They later got back in the studio for 'Single Soon,' which was released in 2023. 'It wasn't our favorite,' she revealed. 'I can say this because I'm marrying him. It just really wasn't what I thought I wanted. So he just came in and I was like, 'Oh, hi, Benny,' and we spoke for two hours. I asked him to hook me up with anybody that he knew who was cute, and he was like, 'Oh, we do these things, these dinner nights. You should come,' and next thing you know, we're dating.'
Gomez revealed that Blanco was initially apprehensive about mixing business and pleasure. 'He was terrified in the beginning because it was work and it's combining, and people are going to get mad. And I'm like, 'I don't give a shit. Kiss me.''
She also opened up about how she feels about getting married. 'I couldn't be more excited,' she said, though she added that a wedding isn't happening anytime soon. 'There's so much happening at the moment. He's working on some projects that he has to wrap up, and we just have things we want to finish and our own personal endeavors before we get into all the nitty-gritty. I just have really never felt so sure about something, and I also don't want to jinx it by saying that.'

Selena Gomez Met Taylor Swift Through Their Exes

If you were alive in the late 2000s, you're well aware that Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez are one of the greatest celeb friendships of all time. We've watched Selena and Taylor cheer each other on for almost two decades now, and it's genuinely restored my faith in humanity. Although we all know and love Taylena, how they met isn't exactly common knowledge. We know they ran in similar circles during their rise to fame — those '00s teen stars were very well-connected — but we never knew exactly how the magic happened (no pun intended, Wizards of Waverly Place). Well, lucky for us, Selena Gomez just went on Jake Shane's Therapuss podcast and spilled all kinds of tea, including the lore on how she and Taylor became friends. And it has to do with FAMOUS EXES. "How did you [and Taylor] meet?" Jake asked. "Taylor and I dated the Jonas Brothers," Selena responded. "I dated Nick and she dated Joe." "We were, like, young. We all know and love each other now, and it's so cute. We didn't know what we were doing." And you'll never believe what Selena said next. "[Taylor] and I like to say the best thing we got out of those relationships was each other," she said. Which is truly, like, the most wholesome thing I've ever heard. When you think about it, Taylor got a ton out of that relationship with Joe: "Forever and Always," arguably the best song on Fearless, AND a lifelong friendship with Selena. "It was really sweet. I was about 15. She was 17, about 18," she explained. "So at that age, we became best friends, bonded over the breakup, as girls do." "Then we just stuck around for all the ups and downs that came after, and here we are, 16 years later," Selena continued. I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING. So it's clear Taylor and Selena's friendship was a success story like no other. And Selena's moved onto her own happy ending with her fiancé, legendary music producer Benny she also commented on in the same podcast. "Are you excited for like, wedding and stuff?" Jake asked. "I am. I couldn't be more excited," she replied, explaining that both she and Benny are working on their own "personal endeavors" before getting into the "nitty-gritty" of wedding planning. "I just have never really felt so sure about something, and I also don't want to jinx it by saying that," Selena said. And of course, meanwhile, Taylor has been dating Travis Kelce for almost two years. So it's good vibes all around! Selena Gomez's ‘Lizzie McGuire' and ‘Suite Life' Spinoffs Got Axed at Disney Before ‘Wizards of Waverly Place': ‘I Was Kind of at My Wits' End'

Before Selena Gomez landed the lead role on Disney Channel's 'Wizards of Waverly Place,' she filmed pilots for spinoffs of two of the network's most popular shows: 'Lizzie McGuire' and 'The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.' In a new interview with Jake Shane on his 'Therapuss' podcast, Gomez reflected on her rise to fame as a teen after being featured on 'Barney & Friends' as a child. More from Variety Midjourney Says Disney Cannot Prevent AI Training and Wants to 'Have It Both Ways' Disney Boss Bob Iger Says 'Creating New IP' Is of 'Great Value' but There's No 'Priority' Among Sequels, Remakes and Originals: Just 'Great Movies' Disney Store Unveils Halloween Villains Collection, Featuring Maleficent, Ursula, Hades, Scar and More 'It was actually a weird thing because I was on three pilots for the Disney Channel: one was the spinoff of 'Lizzie McGuire,' one was the spinoff of 'The Suite Life of Zach and Cody' and the last one was 'Wizards,'' she said. 'So by then, all of them didn't get picked up and I was just kind of at my wits' end, but not in a bad way. I just kind of thought, 'OK, well this is not going to work out.'' It's true: in 2005, Gomez was set to star in the 'Lizzie McGuire' spinoff 'What's Stevie Thinking?' as Stephanie 'Stevie' Sanchez, the younger sister of Lalaine Vergara-Paras' character Miranda. However, Disney Channel didn't end up airing the show. Then in 2007, she was cast in 'Arwin!,' which would have focused on 'Suite Life's' lovable janitor played by Brian Stepanek and his kids. That also didn't get picked up. But later that year, at 15 years old, she landed the role of Alex Russo in 'Wizards,' and as she told Shane, 'my whole life changed after that.' 'It was an immediate feeling of, 'Oh, I achieved my dream' at that point in time,' Gomez said. 'I was such a huge fan of the channel. I was a huge fan of what they did for our generation, and it was an honor. I wear it proudly. I definitely am not ashamed of being part of the Disney high school experience.' However, Gomez also reflected on child stardom and how it affected her to grow up in the spotlight, where her personal life was increasingly dissected in the tabloids. Though she's since limited her circle and now prefers to keep things private, Gomez told Shane that it was — and still is — difficult to deal with the 'outside noise.' 'I don't think it's fair to do that to someone, especially even in their early 20s,' she said of the media scrutiny. 'That's why there's that whole thing about child stars, and it's scary because you don't let the people live their life. You don't let them become adults in a way that's exciting or healthy or inviting. They're just nailing down every wrong thing, and you're just figuring out life.' Now that 'Wizards of Waverly Place' has been rebooted as 'Wizards Beyond Waverly Place' and renewed for a second season, Gomez — who appeared in two episodes of Season 1 and serves as an executive producer — added that she strives to look out for the young actors on the show. 'I look at them and I think, 'OK, make sure you go and be a kid and do the things you want to do,'' she said. 'I believe anyone can follow their dream at any age, but making sure that you have a balance of normality and stability is so crucial to growing up. And whether that was given to me in certain times or not, I just stopped trying to impress people.' Watch Gomez's full interview on 'Therapuss' below.
