Innovative company's futuristic camper van could change the way we vacation: 'Just a more efficient way of traveling'
Camping is already one of the most sustainable ways to go on vacation, but designers in the Netherlands have taken things a step further.
BBC travel reporter Rob Bell had the opportunity to tour the world's first solar-powered campervan, Stella Vita, created by Solar Team Eindhoven.
This campervan is completely powered by solar and able to recharge without the need to plug into EV charging stations, making road trips and adventures truly limitless.
Conceptualized in 2020, Stella Vita is a self-sustaining house on wheels, featuring a shower, a toilet, a cooking area, a sleeping area, and a raisable solar roof with extended panels for additional solar surface.
"The vehicle generates enough solar energy to drive, shower, watch TV, charge your laptop, and make coffee," the company wrote in a Facebook post about the innovative campervan.
As long as it's a nice, sunny day, the car will recharge while you drive or stop to grab coffee or lunch, ensuring you always have enough range to get to where you're going. This constant charging helps overcome the fear that some have that their EV will run out of range on long-distance travel, also known as range anxiety.
"So how many kilometers can it go, maximum?" Bell asked.
"Roughly, on a sunny day in the Netherlands, it's around 750 kilometers (466 miles)," Bob from the Stella Vita team answered.
This is an impressive range, even surpassing that of new electric vans.

Wells Fargo calls this e-commerce stock an 'under-the-radar' AI story
Investors should pick up shares of Shopify as the company continues to innovate in an increasingly AI-powered e-commerce industry, according to Wells Fargo. Analyst Andrew Bauch reiterated his overweight rating on Shopify shares and lifted his price target by $18 to $125, which suggests the stock has about 19% upside ahead. Bauch said Shopify has a strong product portfolio and strategic partnerships in artifical intelligence that will allow it to capture similar market share in "agentic" commerce as it does in traditional U.S. e-commerce. Agentic commerce refers to AI agents acting on behalf of the customer or business in e-commerce transactions such as managing inventory, giving customized recommendations and executing payments and other tasks. "While not typically perceived as an AI play, we believe Shopify's AI efforts are differentiated and can serve as another important growth & efficiency driver for years to come," Bauch wrote in a Friday note to clients, calling the stock an "under-the-radar AI story." "Overall, we see AI as an important piece to the Shopify story, and see the business as well-positioned to ride the wave, rather than getting knocked off course. We're taking our growth and margin estimates up modestly on alleviating tariff risks, and the multiple higher on AI confidence," he added. Shares of Shopify are up nearly 3% this year. The stock took a hit in early May after it reported mixed first-quarter results and issued a weak forecast for the current period. However, shares have jumped roughly 17% over the past month following an announcement that Shopify would be included in the Nasdaq 100 index. SHOP 1Y mountain Shopify stock over the past year. "While some may perceive the AI wave as a threat, we see layers of opportunity via use cases, efficiencies, and adoption," Bauch said. The analyst projected a $50 billion dollar gross merchandise value, or GMV, opportunity for agentic commerce by 2030, with roughly 30% growth annually between now and then. That, he said, is similar to the early days of e-commerce.

Toyota stuns with sleek electric SUV packed with luxury features: 'More than just a vehicle'
Toyota just released its newest electric vehicle — the C-HR+ — in Norway, Electrek reported, and the company has been hyping it for its "stunning" appearance and impressive range. While Toyota announced the vehicle in March, Norway is the first market to receive the 373-mile-range SUV. The C-HR+ could also cost less than other electric SUVs, according to Electrek, which projected it to start in the $30,000 range if it hit the U.S. in 2026. Piotr Pawlak, president of Toyota Norway, said the C-HR+ is "more than just a vehicle — it's a statement." Pawlak said the vehicle was "stunning" and that it "embodies Toyota's vision of blending fun-to-drive excitement with eco-conscious innovation." The C-HR+ comes with a 55.7 or 77 kWh battery, featuring the 373-mile range on the larger of the two batteries. The larger battery version is also available with front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive, making it "the perfect electric SUV for Norwegian roads," according to Toyota. Improving upon a gas-powered version of the vehicle, which was discontinued in 2022, the C-HR+ includes a roomier interior with more space for passengers and cargo. The new EV will also be Toyota's most powerful vehicle in Europe, reaching 0 to 62 miles an hour in 5.2 seconds with 343 horsepower. While EVs can cost more than traditional vehicles initially, the C-HR+ could be more affordable and tax credits up to $7,500 can offset the price of EVs. EVs also cost less over their lifetimes, requiring less maintenance and saving 60% on annual fuel costs, according to a 2020 Consumer Reports study. Fueling EVs with electricity produced by solar panels can increase these savings further. According to Electrek, "For those in the US, we'll have to wait for the official word, but if it does arrive, which would likely be in 2026, the C-HR+ would sit below the bZ4X," which Electrek said would mean a price range between $30,000 and $35,000.
