
Former Teraju CEO Mohd Husni appointed as Labuan Corporation chairman
Mohd Husni, 56, is a seasoned corporate leader and administrator with over 34 years of experience across government agencies, government-linked companies (GLCs), and the corporate sector.
The appointment of Mohd Husni who holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration (Finance) from West Virginia University, United States was announced by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa today.
He had served as the chief executive officer of the Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (Teraju) from 2011 to 2018.
During his leadership, he also functioned as the chief secretariat to the National Bumiputera Economic Council, as well as the Bumiputera Economic Councils of Sabah and Sarawak.
During his tenure, he led the implementation of Bumiputera economic transformation agendas through various national initiatives involving investment, financing, and business development.
Mohd Husni had also held several senior positions, namely as the chief governance officer at Sumner Group Health Medical Devices Limited in the United Kingdom.
He also served as the chief executive officer of Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd, chief executive officer of Malaysia Venture Capital Management Berhad (MAVCAP), and chief operating officer of MSC Venture Management.
Throughout his distinguished career, he has received international recognition, including the Jewels of the Muslim World Award from OIC Today Magazine in 2019, the Global Leadership Award for Leadership Excellence in Community Transformation in 2017, and the Innovative Leadership Award from Limkokwing University in 2016.
"I believe with his vast experience and strong background, Mohd Husni's appointment will further strengthen Labuan's strategic role as a competitive Federal Territory, particularly in enhancing investment appeal, expanding the local economic ecosystem, and improving the quality of life for the island's residents," she said in a statement.
Dr Zaliha expressed the government's deepest appreciation to Senator Tan Sri Anifah Aman for his leadership and contributions during his service as chairman of the Labuan Corporation since June 2023.
The chairman's post has been vacant since Anifah's contract ended last month.

Over 10,000 Bumiputera engineering graduates in 2024
KUALA LUMPUR: More than 10,000 Bumiputera engineering graduates were produced by public universities last year, the Dewan Rakyat was told today. Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said a total of 10,342 Bumiputera students graduated with first degrees in engineering in 2024, compared with 10,274 in 2023. In the field of architecture, 3,781 Bumiputera graduates were recorded in 2024, up from 3,327 the previous year. "The ministry always prioritises the production of professional graduates in strategic sectors such as engineering, architecture, education, law and accountancy, in line with national development goals," he said in reply to a question from Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah (PN–Indera Mahkota). On professional certification, Mustapha said titles such as Ir. (Professional Engineer) and Ar. (Professional Architect) are overseen by their respective regulatory bodies, the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and the Board of Architects Malaysia (LAM). "These certifications are optional and pursued individually through professional training, industrial assessments, examinations and qualifying periods following graduation," he said. As of 2024, 16,223 Bumiputera engineers held the Ir. title, out of 35,760 certified professionals nationwide. In 2023, there were 15,668 Bumiputera engineers among 34,384 professionals, he said. For the field of architecture, LAM data showed 1,056 Bumiputera professionals out of 2,062 certified architects this year. In 2023, there were 1,036 Bumiputera professionals out of 2,545. He said Bumiputera professionals are also represented in various high-impact fields, including medicine, dentistry, law, accountancy, pharmacy, chemistry, actuarial science, quantity surveying, psychology, digital technology, education, nursing, counselling, and occupational safety and health.
