Oil Prices Fall amid Reports of Possible Increase in OPEC+ Production

Taarek Refaat
Oil prices fell on Thursday as investors assessed a report that the OPEC+ alliance is discussing a production increase for July, raising concerns that global supply could outpace demand growth.
Brent crude futures fell 1.02% to $64.25 a barrel by the end of trading. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell 0.83% to $61.06 a barrel.
Latest Oil Prices:
WTI Crude $60.77 -0.70%
Brent Crude $64.01 -0.67%
Murban Crude $63.85 -1.25%
Louisiana Light $65.43 -1.56%
Bonny Light $78.62 -2.84%
Mars US $72.21 -1.45%
Natural Gas $3.274 +0.65%
Gasoline $2.127 -0.22%
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies, collectively known as OPEC+, are discussing the possibility of implementing another significant production increase at their meeting scheduled for June 1.
Among the options being considered is a 411,000 barrel per day increase for July, although a final agreement has not yet been reached.
Industry sources had reported that Kazakhstan's oil production rose 2 percent in May.
Reuters previously reported that the group plans to accelerate production increases, potentially restoring up to 2.2 million barrels per day by November.
This is part of a gradual process to end production cuts, with supply increases occurring during May and June.
Prices had already fallen earlier in the session after U.S. Energy Information Administration data on Wednesday showed a surprise build in crude oil and fuel inventories last week, with crude imports hitting a six-week high and demand for gasoline and diesel declining.
The Energy Information Administration said crude inventories rose by 1.3 million barrels to 443.2 million barrels in the week ending May 16, compared to analysts' expectations for a similar decline.

Sisi, Macron Discuss Strategic Partnership, Regional Stability

Nada Mustafa President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call, on Monday, from French President Emmanuel Macron. The call addressed the overall state of bilateral relations between Egypt and France. Both presidents expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation, especially following President Macron's historic visit to Egypt in April 2025, during which bilateral relations were elevated to the level of a strategic partnership. Moreover, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to implementing all pillars of this partnership and further strengthening cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. Particular emphasis was placed on expanding French investments in Egypt and increasing the involvement of French companies in major Egyptian economic projects. UK Unveils £15 Bln Investment in Nuclear Warhead Program

Israa Farhan British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced a landmark £15 billion investment in the production of sovereign nuclear warheads as part of a comprehensive strategy to modernize the UK's military and enhance national security. The plan also includes a major expansion of the country's nuclear deterrent and increased readiness for potential global conflicts. The announcement came as part of a broader defense review aimed at addressing rising global instability and mounting security threats. Starmer declared that the UK must enter a state of *combat readiness* to effectively deter future aggressors and protect its national interests. Starmer outlined three strategic priorities for the UK's updated defense posture: 1. Enhanced War Readiness The Prime Minister stated that boosting the UK's war readiness is the most effective way to deter potential aggressors. Measures include increased pay for military personnel and the development of a fully trained and more robust reserve force. 2. Strengthening NATO's Capabilities Reaffirming a NATO-first defense policy, Starmer pledged that the UK will provide its most significant contribution to the alliance since its inception. He emphasized that the UK's commitment to NATO remains unwavering and central to its defense strategy. 3. Accelerating Defense Innovation Starmer stressed the need for the UK to become the fastest innovator within the NATO alliance. The government aims to adopt a wartime pace for defense technology development, ensuring rapid adaptation to evolving threats. As part of the defense plan, the government has pledged to: Build at least six new munitions factories across the UK. Establish a hybrid Royal Navy that combines drones, warships, submarines, and advanced aircraft. Deliver up to 12 nuclear-powered attack submarines under the AUKUS security partnership with the United States and Australia. Improve housing and military equipment for armed forces personnel. Invest £15 billion in a Sovereign Warhead Program to reinforce the UK's nuclear capabilities. Under the trilateral AUKUS agreement, the UK will enhance submarine capabilities and share defense technologies with the US and Australia. The partnership plays a pivotal role in countering threats in the Indo-Pacific region and solidifying the UK's position in global security frameworks. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks

Syria Reopens Damascus Securities Exchange After Six-Month Suspension

Rana Atef On Monday, the Syrian government reopened the Damascus Securities Exchange (DSE) after a nearly six-month suspension, aiming to stimulate economic activity in the financial sector. The Syrian Commission on Financial Markets and Securities announced the resumption of trading processes with today's session after the decision by Finance Minister Mohammad Yaser Barniya. He confirmed that the reopening follows a series of regulatory reviews, including ensuring compliance with anti-money laundering standards and updating the financial disclosures of listed companies, to prevent any unlawful exploitation of the market. According to the decision, the exchange will operate with only three trading sessions per week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday until further notice. Execution of large-volume transactions will be suspended for one month as part of a phased plan to gradually reactivate the market. The closing price of the session held on December 5, 2024, will serve as the 'reference price' for traded stocks. Trading is only allowed for companies that have met disclosure and governance requirements. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks
