ARAFAT (Saudi Arabia), June 6 (Bernama-SPA) -- This Hajj season, Saudi Arabia's General Department of Medical Services at the Interior Ministry has launched the Smart Health Bracelet for the first time, aiming to enhance medical safety and support for security personnel on duty.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), this innovative device leverages Internet of Things (IoT) technology, enhanced with Artificial Intelligence (AI), to provide essential medical support to security personnel in the field, significantly boosting their safety as they serve pilgrims.
The Smart Health Bracelet monitors the vital signs of security personnel on duty, sending immediate alerts to the command and control centre at the Security Forces Hospital in Makkah. This ensures prompt support and intervention for advanced medical cases.

Government Mulls Raising Tobacco Tax — Anwar

BUSINESS PUTRAJAYA, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The government is considering a proposal to raise the tobacco tax rate, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said on Thursday. Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said the proposal aligns with the government's commitment to public health and fiscal reform, particularly given the long-standing moratorium on tobacco tax hikes. Malaysia's tobacco tax currently accounts for 58.60 per cent of retail prices. The country has no formal mechanism for periodic adjustments or revaluation of the rate, which was last increased in September 2014. 'I'm enthusiastic. I don't smoke, and I'm anti-smoking,' he said in response to questions on whether the government may revise the tax in Budget 2026, to be tabled in October. Anwar was speaking after attending a Budget 2026 engagement session here today. An economist reportedly suggested raising the rate to between 60 and 75 per cent Last week, when announcing the 13th Malaysia Plan, Anwar said the government would broaden its 'pro-health' tax beyond sugary products to also cover tobacco, vapes and alcohol. He said the expanded tax framework aims not only to increase revenue, but more critically, to encourage behavioural change and curb the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). NCDs, commonly associated with unhealthy lifestyles, include heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer.

Those who consume similar amounts of boiled, baked or mash potatoes do not have an increased risk, researchers found. An international team of researchers, including an expert from the University of Cambridge, wanted to investigate any links between potato consumption and the risk of type 2 diabetes. bootstrap slideshow Academics analysed data on studies tracking the health of more than 205,000 health workers in the US. Repeated surveys about people's diets were performed over almost four decades. And during the study follow-up periods, some 22,000 cases of type 2 diabetes were documented. Overall the research team found that consumption of baked, boiled or mashed potatoes were not linked to an increased risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D). But people who had a higher consumption of French fries - at least three weekly servings - had a 20 per cent increased risk. And those who eat fries five times a week appeared to have a 27 per cent increased risk.
