Storm Center PM Update: Severe Weather Chances Return
The recent model outputs shows scattered thunderstorms in North Dakota potentially forming a line and moving southeast, the main threat would then shift towards severe wind gusts. There is a chance the line could clip northeastern KELOLAND overnight. Besides the thunderstorm chances, most of us will see partly cloudy skies with lows in the 60s.
Going into tomorrow, the heat will become more widespread with highs in the 80s and 90s. Dew point values will be in the 60s and 70s East River, this means heat index values could be close to the triple digits. Overall, it will be a quiet day and the atmosphere will try to recharge.
As a cold front moves through, there will be more energy for thunderstorms to form during the evening. The conditions will likely form storms in clusters and the activity West River will move into East River overnight.
Another slight risk of severe weather is in store for most of KELOLAND with the main hazards being damaging wind gusts and hail.
We will take a break from rain chances at the beginning of next week as a high pressure system settles in. Highs will be seasonable before we become slightly warmer into the end of the week with periodic chances for showers and thunderstorms.

Thunderstorms bring flood threat in Chicago on Tuesday
Flooding is in a concern in Chicago as more rounds of thunderstorms move into the area on Tuesday. A ground stop was issued at O'Hare and Midway airports just before 6:30 a.m. due to thunderstorms. Gusty storms are expected throughout the morning in far northwest areas. The next round of heavy storms develop in the afternoon. Those storms could produce flooding and gusty winds. This next round of storms comes after a Flood Advisory was issued for parts of the Chicago area on Monday evening. Beginning shorty after 9 p.m., lightning began flashing and thunder began rolling in downtown Chicago, as pouring rain began falling off and on. There have been reports of local flooding, specifically in roadways.

Frustration grows in Paterson, N.J. on Day 5 of boil water advisory after water main break
Officials are expected to give another update Tuesday morning on the massive water main break in Paterson, N.J. that is impacting nearly 200,000 people. The area is under a boil water advisory for a fifth straight day. Crews are said to have been making progress repairing the break in a 30-inch pipe near Hinchliffe Stadium that triggered the advisory. Monday night, officials said crews finally isolated a leak, and that water pressure is rising. Work has been underway since early Friday morning to repair the broken 140-year-old water main, which left close to 200,000 people in Paterson, Prospect Park, Haledon and North Haledon with low water pressure, or none at all. The mayors of all four towns are expected to hold another joint press conference Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. On Monday, they asked families for patience, saying three major pipelines run through the area, and crews needed time to figure out which one was the problem. "One of the complicated aspects of it, with the 140-year-old infrastructure, we don't even have good, reliable drawings of what's in the ground. It's 20, 30 feet deep. It's not easy to access," said Jim Mueller, executive director of the Passaic Valley Water Commission. Even though the leak has been isolated, a boil water advisory remains for customers. Frustration is growing in Paterson and surrounding neighborhoods. Families are skeptical, saying that every day the city has claimed it is one step closer to resolving the problem, but there has been little improvement. "I am not saying they're not trying to do their best, but their best is not good enough still, because we are still suffering," Paterson resident Rita Pennant said. "Every day, it's two more days," Paterson resident Warren Ellis said. Officials are calling on residents to conserve water and not to open hydrants. Under the advisory, impacted residents should: Bottled water pick-up and the comfort station at John F. Kennedy High School will continue to stay open Tuesday.

It's going to be hot and humid today in the Pittsburgh area before rain returns to the region tomorrow. Any Alert Days Ahead? One could make the argument for Wednesday, but I think it falls below criteria we have established in the past. Aware: If we record no measurable rain today, it'll be only the 4th time that Pittsburgh has gone 15 days or more with no measurable rain since 2000. Today will be the 15th day in a row with no measurable rain in Pittsburgh. We likely won't make it 16 in a row. 15 is notable, though. While records are a little unusual in how they count things, it appears we have only had 10 stretches of weather here in Pittsburgh on record with a stretch of 'dry' weather that has lasted this long. It's a stretch that should come to an end on Wednesday, as big rain totals are expected along with the possibility of flash flooding. Model data is pumping out rain totals for Wednesday that put the area under the flash flood risk. At this point, it looks like it would take around an inch and a half over an hour to bring flash flooding to our area. You are looking at around 2 inches over a six-hour period that could also bring a threat for flash flooding. It looks like most places should now expect a little more than an inch of rain throughout the day on Tuesday, with some isolated communities seeing well above that. NOAA's Weather Prediction Center has painted our area under a slight flash flood risk. Outside of Wednesday, I have an isolated rain chance today and a scattered rain chance on Thursday. Thursday's rain chance is highest south of I-70 and during the afternoon. Highs Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will just hit the mid to upper 80s due to rain, cloud cover, and slightly cooler temperatures behind the cold front. Highs will be back in the mid to low 90s starting on Saturday. As we get into the weekend, skies should clear out and you should have what will be the best chance to see the Perseid Meteor Shower. Normally, the best time would be happening today and Wednesday, but the waning moon will still be bright enough to impact viewing, and skies will be mostly cloudy here either way. This weekend, the Earth will pass through the remnants of the tail of comet 109P/ Swift Tuttle, the reason for the Perseids. The Perseids are always visible during August, and in normal years, meteor sightings drastically lower for the second half of August.
