Padres' All-Star-laden bullpen is lights out in a 4-2 win over NL East-leading Phillies
Adrian Morejon, added to the National League All-Star team earlier in the day, threw a perfect seventh and fellow All-Star Robert Suarez a perfect ninth for his big league-leading 28th save. The Padres are the first team to have three relievers selected to the All-Star Game in the same season, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
With the Padres leading 3-2, Adam loaded the bases on a leadoff walk to Trea Turner and consecutive one-out singles by Bryce Harper and Alec Bohm. Nick Castellanos hit a dribbler a few feet in front of the plate that Adam flipped with his glove to catcher Elias Díaz to force Turner. Adam then got Max Kepler to pop up to shortstop and celebrated by slapping his glove and clenching his right fist.
Jeremiah Estrada (3-4) threw a perfect sixth for the win.
Kyle Schwarber hit his 30th homer and Castellanos also homered for the Phillies, who took two of three against the Padres last week in Philadelphia. Both came off rookie Ryan Bergert, who returned from the injured list 17 days after taking a 103-mph line drive off his right forearm against Washington.
Schwarber's homer with two outs in the third traveled an estimated 425 feet deep into the seats in right field. Castellanos' homer with one out in the second was his 12th.
The Padres took a 3-1 lead in the second on three hits and two errors, including one by starter Ranger Suárez (7-3). Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jose Iglesias had RBI hits.
The Phillies also loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth before Bryce Harper grounded out to first base.
San Diego's Manny Machado homered leading off the eighth, his 17th.

No one dedicates an enormous amount of time discussing this, but landing him that late in the selection meeting feels like a steal. Ravens offensive coordinator raved about him recently. The initial 53-man roster hasn't been released yet, but if we were to read between the lines, we'd assume Wester has locked up the returner role with additional duties to be named later. Again, we're going to assume Wester has ended Baltimore's search for a punt returner. Might he provide a Swiss-Army knife of sorts to the offensive attack? That remains to be seen. Wester appeared in 58 games at the collegiate level, including four seasons with the Florida Atlantic Owls and his most recent with the Colorado Buffaloes, produced 326 receptions, 3,634 yards receiving, and 31 receiving touchdowns. He also racked up another 213 yards and a pair of TDs on 37 carries. There's some potential there. We'll see if the Ravens can find unique ways to deploy him this season. David Booth's $300 million gift to Kansas: How it will transform the stadium and Gateway District
LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas has received a $300 million gift from donor David Booth, the largest in school history and believed to be among the richest in the history of college sports. Booth, a graduate of Lawrence High School and KU, already has his name on the football stadium. Kansas was expected to allocate $75 million toward the next phase of the renovation of the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium and additional construction of the surrounding area, called the Gateway District. Kansas athletic director Travis Goff said the remainder of the gift was expected to generate a stream of income for the athletic department that could last for generations. 'There is no more generous and impactful Jayhawk, and we are so fortunate to call him a friend and mentor,' Goff said. The Gateway District's next phase was expected to add a hotel, additional retail and restaurant spaces, student housing, improved parking and an outdoor event plaza. Booth is founder of global investment firm Dimensional Fund Advisors, which managed $853 billion in assets as of June 30. The longtime benefactor made a $50 million pledge in 2017 to help with the overhaul of the football stadium, which at the time was the largest donation in KU history. He has given several other financial gifts to the university, including $4.3 million to buy and donate James Naismith's original rules of basketball. 'KU and Lawrence are a big part of my story, and it means a lot to support the community that invested in me," Booth said. 'Philanthropy, like investing, pays dividends over time.' The Kansas football team played six games last season in the Kansas City area while the stadium underwent renovations.
