Hey, gang! Happy Monday. Welcome to the start of a new week.
At this point, you know what that means: on Mondays, we kick off the column with an upbeat song to help start your week on a positive note and maybe even get you dancing a little.
I feel like everyone has a different favorite Lionel Ritchie song. For me, it's the very fluffy but incredibly catchy 'Dancing On The Ceiling' and that's what I'm going with today. It's so much fun:
Before we begin, I've set up a discussion group for NYT Connections and this column on Discord. We have a great little community over there and we chat about more than NYT games. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It's a fun hangout spot.

Today's NYT Connections hints and answers for Monday, March 24, are coming right up.
Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT website or Games app.
You're presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part.
There's only one solution for each puzzle, and you'll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.
Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay.
Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you're incorrect, you'll lose a life. If you're close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you're one word away from getting it right, but you'll still need to figure out which one to swap.
If you make four mistakes, it's game over. Let's make sure that doesn't happen with the help of some hints, and, if you're really struggling, today's Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it's easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.
If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication's Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed.
Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my hints via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query.
Scroll slowly! Just after the hints for each of today's Connections groups, I'll reveal what the groups are without immediately telling you which words go into them.

First of all, there's nothing filthy about today's game. Behave yourselves. You know who I'm talking to.
I had a feeling it probably wouldn't be a group but I tried a guess of UNIFORM, PHOTOSHOP, EVERYONE and HENHOUSE anyway. I figured those all seemed like two words that were smushed together, but I wasn't even one away from a group there.
Anyway, I also had the yellows on my radar and I squared those away. The blues then made sense to me next. I thought they'd be more generic age ratings, but sure, that works (and brings to mind a recent controversy over the brilliant poker-like game Balatro).
The ESRB (or Entertainment Software Rating Board) is a self-regulatory industry board that determines age ratings for games in the US, Canada and North America. This group is perhaps not common knowledge, but I think it's one that many people might get to logically (although MATURE also could have gone with some of the yellows for a red herring).
Despite what this group might imply, video games are absolutely for everyone -- I'm always happy to offer suggestions if you want to start dipping your toes into that world!
From there, the greens jumped out like a sore thumb, but I had to submit the purple group first. I didn't quite figure out the connection here though I suppose it makes sense. I maybe could have gotten there even with my very limited knowledge of PHOTOSHOP, but I had no idea a HENHOUSE had layers!
Oh, a thought...
It might be referring to hens laying eggs. In other words, the hens are the LAYERS.
Well played, NYT. Well played.
That's all there is to it for today's Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Tuesday's game if you need them.
P.S. Even though I had two such tracks in mind, I don't quite think a lower-tempo song is right for a Monday -- especially given that I tried to help put a smile on your face and get you moving with the song in the intro. So, let's go with all-time rock classic to close things out today.
I recently found this 1978 live performance of "Baba O'Riley" by The Who on the band's official YouTube channel. Even though this was shot in the '70s, the visual quality is astonishingly good. It must have been shot on film cameras rather than video.
Anyway, I love this song to bits. Glad I was able to see The Who live before they got (too) old. There were drunken youths everywhere at that festival. A teenage wasteland, indeed:
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love!
If you're so inclined, please follow my blog for more coverage of NYT Connections and other word games and even some video game news, insights and analysis. It helps me out a lot! Sharing this column with other people who play Connections would be appreciated too Also, follow me on Bluesky! It's fun there.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Nintendo Switch 2 journey isn't going too smoothly as Nintendo asks "please avoid using Mii Fighter in online play as much as possible"
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Nintendo Switch 2 has a ton of free updates available for existing Switch games, with a bunch of first-party Nintendo games getting the rub (especially Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which desperately needed it). While Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is among the games that run better, it comes with an unexpected downgrade. Twitter user OatmealDome noticed on the US Eshop page for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate that the game is listed as "Supported – Game progression may be affected in portions of the game" for Switch 2. When you look for more info, it turns out there's not a progression issue; it's actually just that Mii Fighters are not working as they should. On the store it says, "In online play, when a Switch 2 player and Switch player have been matched, if someone is using Mii Fighter, the match may end immediately," and because of this Nintendo asks that players "please avoid using Mii Fighter in online play as much as possible." So while Mii Fighters do still work online on Switch 2, it's only if you face someone else playing on the new system. Not only are Mii Fighters having trouble in online crossplay, but Nintendo also notes, "When creating or editing and saving a Mii Fighter, the thumbnail image showing the Mii Fighter may not appear correctly." With the solution being a simple "This may be improved by saving it again." Nintendo hasn't explained why this happened, although it could be a compatibility issue stemming from the fact that Mii characters are now genderless on Switch 2, I don't know why that would matter when the gender doesn't matter in Smash, but that could have caused the issue. Regardless, Nintendo says that "This is planned to be fixed in the near future," so you can have your Hank Hill vs Sans Undertale brawls online once more. Street Fighter 6 sees Capcom follow the road Nintendo abandoned in Animal Crossing by adding a collection of stone-cold NES bangers.

America is gonna run out of popcorn: Savage internet memes troll Musk and Trump during online meltdown
The internet was savage watching the explosive public split between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk - and used the opprotunity to blast memes across social media. 'Elon finally found a way to make Twitter fun again,' former senior Obama adviser and podcast host Dan Pfeiffer summarized in a post on X. The whole world got a front-row seat to the spectacle between the former 'first buddy' and the president Thursday, when they traded blows on their respective social media platforms, Truth Social and X. It began with Musk's critique of Trump's 'big, beautiful bill,' and spiraled into a mudslinging match between the two billionaires. 'BREAKING: Vladimir Putin has offered to negotiate a peace deal between President Trump and Elon Musk,' X user Amuse wrote. Social media users, including Democrats, have been sharing hilarious memes of the breakup, drawing inspiration from Real Housewives to Mean Girls. One user shared a meme from Mean Girls of Musk writing about Trump in the 'Burn Book.' Democratic Rep. Melanie Stansbury of New Mexico shared a meme about the blow-up: 'Real Housewives of Pennsylvania Ave,' the congresswoman posted. Another prominent X account that Musk often interacts with shared a photo of the president with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. 'Your name is Elon now,' it said. Others poked fun at Vice President JD Vance. 'Who gets JD Vance in the divorce?' said another. Someone else shared a photo of the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside the Trump hotel in Las Vegas on January 1. 'It was foretold,' the post said. AMERICA'S GOING TO RUN OUT OF POPCORN — Jeff Tiedrich (@itsJeffTiedrich) June 5, 2025 The fallout between the two men, who at one point were almost inseparable, took a personal turn Thursday. The spat culminated in a bombshell claim from Musk that the president was 'in the Epstein files.' 'That is the real reason they have not been made public,' Musk wrote, signing off: 'Have a good day, DJT!' Ten minutes later, he added: 'Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.' Melanie Stansbury (@Rep_Stansbury) June 5, 2025 Days after leaving his role as Special Advisor to the Trump administration, as a figurehead of the Department of Government Efficiency, Musk lashed out at the president's 'big beautiful bill,' calling it 'pork-filled' and an 'abomination.' Trump had previously taken the high road on the issue. Earlier, during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the president told reporters he was 'very disappointed,' with his former 'first buddy.' Trump was asked about his former adviser's recent comments against the spending bill working its way through Congress. 'Elon knew the inner workings of this bill better than anyone... and he only developed a problem when he found out I would cut the EV (electric vehicle) mandate... And it really is unfair,' he replied. Who gets JD Vance in the divorce — PointlessHub (@HubPointless) June 5, 2025 "Your name is Elon now." — Autism Capital 🧩 (@AutismCapital) June 5, 2025 — Coffeezilla (@coffeebreak_YT) June 5, 2025 Trump also claimed that during the presidential election he could have won the crucial battleground state of Pennsylvania without Musk's help. 'Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,' Musk shot back on X minutes later. 'Such ingratitude,' he added in a separate post. The White House took a more diplomatic tone. 'This is an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill because it does not include the policies he wanted,' Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. 'The President is focused on passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again.' Trump appears to have thrown cold water on the notion that he and Musk could speak Friday. In a call with ABC News, the president dismissed Musk as 'the man who has lost his mind' and said he was 'not particularly' interested in reconciliation.

NYT ‘Connections' Hints And Answers For Saturday, June 7
Connections hints and answers are here. Looking for Friday's NYT Connections hints, clues and answers instead? You can find them here: Well, this was an unusually tough Connections today if you ask me, and I did quite poorly. I imagine you might need some clues or answers if you've arrived here, and we can all mourn our failures together. Connections is the second-most popular NYT Games puzzle game outside of the main crossword itself, and an extremely fun, free offering that will get your brain moving every day. Play it right here. The goal is to take a group of 16 words and find links between four pairs of four of them. They could be specific categories of terms, or they could be little world puzzles where words may come before or after them you need to figure out. And they get more complicated from there. There is only one set of right answers for this, and you only get a certain number of tries so you can't just spam around until you find something. There are difficulty tiers coded by color, which will usually go from yellow, blue/green to purple as difficulty increases, so know that going in and when you start linking them together. FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder You pick the four words you think are linked and either you will get a solve and a lit up row that shows you how you were connected. If you're close, it will tell you that you're one away. Again, four mistakes you lose, but if you want to know the answers without failing, either come here, or delete your web cookies and try again. If you want to play more puzzles, you can get an NYT Games subscription to access the full archives of all past puzzles. So, onto the hints and answers: These are the hints that are laid out on the puzzle board itself, but after that, we will get into spoiler territory with some hints and eventually the answers. The hints for the Connections groups today are: Alright, the full spoilers follow here as we get into what the groups are today: The full-on answers are below for each group, finally inserting the four words in each category. Spoilers follow if you do not want to get this far. The Connections answers are: Yeah, I failed this one. I really tried, but it was the Blue Group that tripped me up this time, and I'm still not entirely sure what's going on with that group, to be honest, as it ended up being the default fill once others were solved, and purple stumped me too. A ditty is a short song but I'm having trouble connecting it to that group even now. Purple Group was also difficult to some extent. Spring CHICKEN, EQUINOX and FLING were easy enough, but I genuinely don't know what a spring ONION is and it lost me there, unfortunately. I thought the Green and Yellow Groups were easier than normal this time around. HYDRATE, REST and STRETCH were clearly a trio, and BREATHE eventually came naturally. FOUND, LAUNCH and START were the first ones I grabbed before realizing that INSTITUTE should be in there as well. This was a tough one! You can't win them all and this is why we keep sharpening our brains with these puzzle. But when we fall, we get back up again. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.
