Cool temps keep some central Iowa pools closed over holiday weekend

Yahoo27-05-2025
DES MOINES, Iowa — Cooler weather over the Memorial Day holiday weekend delayed the opening of multiple aquatic centers in central Iowa. With warmer temperatures in the forecast, many are trying to open this week.
That includes some Ankeny aquatic centers working to open on Tuesday. The Cascade Falls and Prairie Ridge aquatic centers are set to open up, but only if temperatures reach 68 degrees.

Cascade Falls plans to open from noon to 7:00 p.m., and general admission is $10. Prairie Ridge will be open from noon to 6:00 p.m. with general admission costing $6.
Cool temps also prevented the city of Ames from opening Furman Aquatic Center as planned. Instead, the center is expected to open on Wednesday.
Adventure Bay at Adventureland was affected by the chilly weather as well. It had been scheduled to be open over the holiday weekend, but it remained closed. Opening day is now set for Friday.

Arkansas Storm Team Forecast: Heavy Rain Possible for Some Monday

An isolated shower or thunderstorm can't be ruled out tonight, but most areas will stay dry through the overnight hours. It's Monday morning when rain chances start to ramp up, especially across northern Arkansas. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to become more widespread through the morning, with the potential for a few heavy downpours. If these heavier cells develop, localized flooding could become a concern. Storm chances continue into the afternoon and evening across much of the state, offering some relief from the heat where rain does fall. Highs will climb into the mid 90s, but cooler spots are likely under any lingering clouds or storms. Rain and storm chances linger into Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs staying in the mid to lower 90s. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
