PM Anwar's economic initiatives reflect strong fundamentals, says Hajiji
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the measures, designed to ease the rising cost of living, demonstrate the federal government's commitment to public welfare.
'This reflects the Prime Minister's genuine concern for the people's well-being,' Hajiji said in a statement.
He highlighted the one-off RM100 aid for Malaysians aged 18 and above, redeemable at 4,100 retail outlets, as well as the expansion of Rahmah MADANI Sales to every state constituency.
The reduction of RON95 petrol prices to RM1.99 per litre under the targeted subsidy scheme was another key move, expected to benefit over 18 million Malaysians.
'This has truly fulfilled the people's aspirations,' Hajiji added.
The additional public holiday on Sept 15 for Malaysia Day was also welcomed as a recognition of the occasion's national significance.
In Sarawak, Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg expressed gratitude for the federal aid, noting that combined state and federal assistance would further ease public burdens.
'The people of Sarawak will receive help from both Kuala Lumpur and the state government,' he said in Bintulu.
Earlier, Anwar announced multiple initiatives, including toll hike deferrals and subsidised fuel, as part of the government's appreciation for public support. – Bernama

EU standard port for tuna landing in KK
Hajiji speaking at the MoU signing ceremony.-Information photo KOTA KINABALU (July 30): A European Union (EU) standard port will be developed in Kota Kinabalu, specifically for the landing of tuna and other deep-sea catches. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor said the project, expected to be completed within 18 months, is projected to create over 1,000 jobs across the fisheries value chain. 'This facility will adhere to stringent EU standards, including Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), traceability systems, monitoring of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and comprehensive food safety protocols. 'With this infrastructure in place, Sabah can access premium export markets that were previously out of reach due to the lack of suitable facilities,' Hajiji said after witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) and Petco Trading Labuan Company Ltd, as well as a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between DBKK and Alpha Ocean Resources Berhad (AORB), at the Pacific Sutera Harbour. Under the MoA, AORB will invest RM360 million to develop the port. Hajiji said Sabah is well-positioned to become the region's premier deep-sea fisheries hub, thanks to its strategic geographical and economic advantages. He said Sabah lies along international tuna migration routes and is home to naturally sheltered ports located close to major seafood-producing countries including Indonesia, the Philippines and Papua New Guinea. 'We have all the prerequisites, strategic location, rich marine resources, infrastructure and policy support to establish Sabah as a world-class landing, processing and exporting centre for deep-sea fishery products,' he said. He added that Malaysia's membership in the Western & Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) positions the new port to serve as a recognised landing base for licensed international fishing vessels. 'With an estimated 1,000 vessels expected annually, each landing an average of 50 tonnes, Sabah stands to land up to 50,000 tonnes of tuna per year, generating potential economic returns of up to RM1.8 billion,' he said. The benefits, he noted, will extend beyond fish landings to include ancillary sectors such as ice supply, bunkering, food and beverage services and technical support industries. Hajiji also underscored that the industry's development would not come at the expense of local coastal communities. An inclusive model will ensure that small-scale fishers are integrated into downstream value-added components. 'We are committed to sustainable environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices, safeguarding the marine ecosystem, supporting communities and upholding transparent governance for long-term economic and environmental sustainability,' he said.

15 Mcdonald's Restaurants Earmarked As Stopovers For KMJG 2025 Convoy
MELAKA, July 30 (Bernama) -- In conjunction with this year's National Month, McDonald's Malaysia is embracing patriotism by participating in various 'Merdeka' (Independence) initiatives, including the 2025 Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) convoy, which kicked off on Sunday (July 27). McDonald's Malaysia senior vice-president and chief impact officer Melati Abdul Hai said that through the KMJG, a total of 15 McDonald's restaurants would be used as stopover locations for the motorcycle convoy, which will travel to 88 selected areas nationwide. She added that McDonald's Malaysia joined the Communications Ministry-organised programme to join in the celebration that is so meaningful to the country and the people of Malaysia, in addition to enhancing the spirit of the Jalur Gemilang and bringing joy to all Malaysians. "As a brand that has grown together with the people of Malaysia for the past 43 years, we believe that the National Day celebration is a pivotal moment for us to be united, celebrate diversity and express our love for the country. "As such, McDonald's Malaysia joined this initiative to play a bigger role as a local company, making our restaurants a place for Malaysians to further strengthen the spirit of patriotism and togetherness by celebrating independence,' she told reporters after the 2025 KMJG Programme at the Batu Berendam McDonald's Restaurant here today.
