Ellen DeGeneres 'would love' to host another talk show years after toxic workplace allegations
During a live conversation with broadcaster Richard Bacon on Sunday, the 67-year-old former talk show host shared that she misses so many things about hosting her own show, but doesn't think that format would work in today's world.
"I mean, I wish it did, because I would do the same thing here," she told Bacon, per the BBC. "I would love to do that again, but I just feel like people are watching on their phones, or people aren't really paying attention as much to televisions, because we're so inundated with information and entertainment."
Since moving to England in November 2024, DeGeneres has taken her time in deciding on her next career move, admitting she is making that move "very carefully." While she doesn't know what is next for her, she says "I want to have fun, I want to do something. I do like my chickens but I'm a little bit bored."
The comedian hosted "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" for 19 seasons from 2003 to 2022. The show came to an end two years after allegations of a toxic work environment came to light in July 2020.
DeGeneres addressed the allegations during the opening monologue on the first episode of her 18th season. In the monologue, the comedian issued an on-air apology, in which she called herself "a work in progress" before adding she is "especially working on the impatience thing."
"No matter what, any article that came up, it was like, 'She's mean,' and it's like, how do I deal with this without sounding like a victim or 'poor me' or complaining? But I wanted to address it," she said in her conversation with Bacon. "It's as simple as, I'm a direct person, and I'm very blunt, and I guess sometimes that means that… I'm mean?"
She went on to say that she finds it "hurtful" that she probably can't "say anything that's ever going to get rid of…or dispel" the rumors that she is mean, and that she "hate[s] that people think that."
Looking back, she added that it was "certainly an unpleasant way to end" her talk show.
When asked about her recent move to the English countryside, she confirmed it was influenced by President Donald Trump winning the election. She told Bacon she and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, originally planned to split their time between England and the United States, but changed their minds following the election.
"We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in,'" she said. "And we're like, 'We're staying here.'"
Since moving to England, the comedian and de Rossi have noticed "everything here is just better," highlighting the beauty of the city, "the way animals are treated" and the overall "simpler way of life."
"We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life," she explained. "We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks."

Until last year, Chris Duncan hadn't won a fight via guillotine since his professional debut in 2018. But now suddenly he's riding a two-fight streak with both victories sealed by the technique? A couple of weeks ago, when honoring his legendary teammate Dustin Poirier, I couldn't help but notice one particular sentence in the midst of the plaudits Duncan gave 'The Diamond'. 'I watched you when I was a young kid [in] WEC, you are the guy who then became a teammate,' wrote the 32-year-old Scot on Instagram. Then came the kicker: 'Then you showed me the famous gilly grip!!!!' Could it be? Had Duncan inherited the magical method that made Poirier the de facto leader of the Gilly Goose Gang for the past few years? Granted, the Louisiana poster boy captivated audiences for his attempts of the choke rather than his execution, but according to Duncan, he wasn't just throwing compliments out there willy-nilly. 'When he was getting ready for Benoit Saint-Denis, we were doing a lot of wrestling together,' Duncan told Uncrowned of Poirier. 'I was being used for grappling rounds only, because I'm not a southpaw. Every Saturday he was doing his conditioning circuit, live pads and live grappling rounds. His objective was to keep getting up and a few times he was catching me with that submission. I always thought I had a good guillotine as it was, but I asked, 'What are you doing there?' Because even when I was doing everything right, he was still getting me with it. 'Over time he helped me develop it and he showed me the different things he was doing — and believe it or not, it's won me a lot of money!' Duncan is no doubt referring to the Performance of the Night bonus he secured with his guillotine victory over Bolaji Oki this past September, which he followed up with another guillotine victory in March over one of the golden boys of the U.K. scene, former Cage Warriors champion Jordan Vucenic. 'I threw him about like an empty tracksuit,' Duncan remembered. 'I try not to badmouth any of my opponents, and I hope this doesn't sound wrong, but I make a lot of sacrifices in every fight camp to travel to American Top Team. I'm training with the best guys in the world, whereas he did his fight camp in [English town] Corby — most people don't know where that is.' You see, Duncan never got the big promotional backing that Vunenic enjoyed in his pre-UFC career. The first time I saw him fight, he upset a highly-hyped hometown favorite in Dublin's 3 Arena, silencing the partisan Irish crowd to the point of disbelief at a Bellator show in 2019. It took the Scot minutes to dispose of striking standout Sam Slater that night. He went on to win two more tests under the Bellator banner, but was never afforded the push like others on the now-defunct promotion's European roster. In a strange way, not being synonymous with the brand like James Gallagher or Fabian Edwards may have helped Duncan contractually when it came to getting a nod for the UFC's Contender Series. Although it took him two bites of the apple before he earned his UFC contract, Duncan now has his feet comfortably under the table as a five-fight veteran. While it's certainly an escalation in terms of rankings, you get the sense that Duncan is relishing the thought of facing Mateusz Rębecki in the co-main event of this weekend's UFC Vegas 108 card. He may be the underdog, but the way he sees it, that just gives him a bigger opportunity to win the masses over. 'People are always going to doubt you,' he explained. 'I haven't had any crazy performances — I've had some good ones, but I haven't had a crazy fight in there yet. People probably think I'm just an average fighter, but I'll prove to them that I'm far from average.' And what are the chances he could make it three guillotine finishes in a row? 'I'm going to try it," Duncan exclaimed. "I think he's going to wrestle, so I should get a chance. It's f***ing embedded into my game. I've got so many ins and so many outs with that submission. It's definitely possible, you'll have to wait and see.'

But her carefully planned-out life derails when she meets Jamie Davenport (Corey Mylchreest), a charming local with a passion for literature who whisks Anna into a complicated romance, made only more poignant once Anna learns Jamie is terminally ill and has chosen to forgo treatment. An almost trashed project (inspired by the novel of the same name by Julia Whelan) that was later optioned and revived by Netflix, this tender story from BAFTA-nominated director Iain Morris (who brought a unique comic sensibility to British television when he created the coming-of-age sitcom The Inbetweeners) seems to be the kind of romance that's for fans of movies that deliver a similar blend of romance and emotional upheaval, like Me Before You and One Day. My Oxford Year became available to stream on Netflix starting Aug. 1, 2025. It's not easy to recommend a box office bomb that was trashed by critics. But when we take a deeper dive into the details behind the now-practically forgotten action comedy Freelance, we see that this movie might just find the audience it desperate desired with more exposure on Netflix. The film follows Mason Pettits (John Cena), a restless and emotionally scarred lawyer who quit his job as a U.S. Army Special Forces operative after a failed mission. But he comes back into fold to protect journalist Claire Wellington (Alison Brie) on her trip to interview the dictator Juan Venegas (Juan Pablo Raba) of the fictional country Paldonia. What begins a standard security detail becomes violent when a coup erupts mid-interview, forcing Mason to guide Claire and Venegas out of the jungle, all the while facing Colonel Jan Koehorst (Marton Csokas) and his mercenaries. With a budget of $40 million, Freelance only grossed $10.2 million at the worldwide box office, largely thanks to the movie's abysmal 10% showing on Rotten Tomatoes. But the audience score hovered around 70%, with many viewers who enjoy light, escapist action-comedies reminiscent of '90s blockbusters claiming the movie hits all the right spots. But outside of the Big Mouth series, most of the streaming giant's animated offerings have been kid-focused—which is what makes Fixed such an adult-focused departure. This raunchy, R-rated comedy follows a cocky, quick-witted bloodhound named Bull (voiced by Adam Devine) who finds out he's going to be neutered the next day. Faced with this existential crisis, Bull gathers his best pals—Rocco, a gruff boxer (Idris Elba); Lucky, a dopey but loyal beagle (Bobby Moynihan); and Fetch, a wannabe influencer dachshund (Fred Armisen)—for one final night of canine mischief. And before the night is over, he wishes to confess his love to Honey (Kathryn Hahn), the glamorous show dog next door. This project from director Genndy Tartakovsky (the Emmy-winning creator of Samurai Jack, Dexter's Laboratory and Primal who cites Young Frankenstein, Anchorman, and Dumb and Dumber as inspirations) was dead-but-revivied after Netflix acquired it at the Annecy Animation Film Festival. Fans of movies like Strays and Sausage Party would be smart to check out this foul-mouthed flick. Fixed will be available to stream on Netflix starting Aug. 13, 2025. Here we have another case where Netflix isn't deterred by a low critical score. Despite just achieving 45% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience gave Kandahar an 82% approval rating—a trend I've noticed in Netflix's offerings later, with the streaming service banking more on public opinions than critical ones. This addition to the Gerard Butler action movie canon stars the B-movie champion as Tom Harris, a veteran CIA black-ops agent who successfully sabotages an Iranian nuclear facility. But after his identity is unfortunately exposed, Tom escapes, only to be drawn into a covert mission in Afghanistan. After that operation is compromised, he and his Afghan-American interpreter Mohammad "Mo" Doud (Navid Negahban) are chased by Iranian Revolutionary Guards led by the ruthless Colonel Farzad Asadi (Bahador Foladi) and Pakistani ISI agent Kahil Nasir (Ali Fazal) as they race their way toward Kandahar to be rescued. Directed by Ric Roman Waugh (who gave us other Butler vehicles like Angel Has Fallen and Greenland), this spy action thriller is loosely based upon screenwriter Mitchell LaFortune's real-life experience as a U.S. intelligence officer in Afghanistan. Kandahar will be available to stream on Netflix starting Aug. 9, 2025. When Vanessa Kirby and Netflix come together, awards usually follow suit. The last time Kirby fronted a Netflix feature, Pieces of a Woman, it earned her an Academy Award nomination (she won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress), and The Crown landed her a BAFTA win for Best Supporting Actress. We'll see if the trend continues with Night Always Comes, a crime thriller that follows Lynette (Kirby) during a night in Portland. Lynette, desperate to secure a future for her developmentally disabled brother (Zack Gottsagen), aims to raise money so she can buy her family's home before it's bought from underneath them. After her mother backs out of a financial agreement, Lynette plunges into a tense, noir-tinged odyssey through the city's seediest corners, encountering drug dealers, ex-lovers and buried trauma all the while. With a cast outfitted by the likes of Jennifer Jason Leigh, Stephan James, Julia Fox, Eli Roth, Randall Park and Michael Kelly, this atmospheric thriller from director Benjamin Caron (who worked closely with Kirby to shape Lynette as a fiercely human, unpredictable lead character) appears to have Safdie brother energy (think Good Time and Uncut Gems). Night Always Comes will be available to stream on Netflix starting Aug. 15, 2025. The Thursday Murder Club has two genres I love meeting at a crossroads: murder-mystery whodunnits where detectives must solve a murder before time is up, and ensemble pieces starring veteran actors who know how to navigate such juicy material. This particular gem has quite the cast, with Helen Mirren, Ben Kingsley, Pierce Brosnan and Celia Imrie making up the main four detectives: Elizabeth, a former spy; Ibrahim, a retired psychiatrist; Ron, a once-feared labor activist; and Joyce, a kind but underestimated former nurse. These four meet weekly to solve cold cases over tea—but when a real murder rocks their community, the group suddenly finds itself in the middle of a deadly mystery that directly affects their lives. The cast, made up of characters ranging from hard-nosed detectives to concerned relatives to slippery suspects, features several great overseas actors, including Naomi Ackie, David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, Daniel Mays, Richard E. Grant and Tom Ellis. To boot, you can practically guarantee this film will be entertaining as heck given it's directed by Chris Columbus, who gave us the first two Home Alone movies, Mrs. Doubtfire and the first two Harry Potter films. Sarah Jessica Parker announces emotional and poetic end to ‘And Just Like That…'

The 'Sex and the City' franchise is ending after more than 25 years, with the conclusion of the third and now final season of its spinoff 'And Just Like That…,' star Sarah Jessica Parker and showrunner, writer and director Michael Patrick King announced Friday. 'And just like that… the ongoing storytelling of the 'Sex And The City' universe is coming to an end,' King wrote in a statement posted on the show's Instagram account. 'While I was writing the last episode of 'And Just Like That…' season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop.' A post shared by And Just Like That... (@justlikethatmax) According to King, the decision to sunset the series was made with the show's star and executive producer Parker, along with chief executive officer of HBO Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, who is head of original programming. (HBO and HBO Max are owned by CNN's parent company.) Parker posted a lengthy and poetic goodbye on social media to the series and central character Carrie, who she first started playing in 1998 when original series 'Sex and the City' premiered on HBO. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her,' she wrote in part. 'MPK and I together recognized, as we have in the past, this chapter complete. 'And Just Like That…' was the most recent iteration of 'Sex and the City,' a beloved and sometimes polarizing franchise which included the Emmy-winning first series that ended in 2004, and also had two feature films that followed. Parker's post included a carousel of images from the whole run of the franchise, featuring core characters Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis), along with Samantha (Kim Cattrall) from the first series and movies (and a brief cameo in Season 2 of 'AJLT'). The images also showed Carrie with Stanford (the late Willie Garson), Mr. Big (Chris Noth) and Aidan (John Corbett), as well as 'AJLT' additions Seema (Sarita Choudhury) and LTW (Ari Nicole Parker), who Parker called out as two 'most divine new connections.' In his post, King said that he and Parker 'held off announcing the news until now because we didn't want the word 'final' to overshadow the fun of watching the season.'
