Robert Vadra Appears Before ED In Sanjay Bhandari-Linked Money Laundering Case

Robert Vadra appeared before the Enforcement Directorate regarding a money laundering case linked to UK arms consultant Sanjay Bhandari.
Robert Vadra, businessman and husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, on Monday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case linked to UK-based arms consultant Sanjay Bhandari and others.
Accompanied by Priyanka Gandhi, the 56-year-old businessman arrived at the ED's central Delhi office shortly after 11am. His statement was recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), News agency PTI citing sources reported.
This is not the first time that Vadra was summoned to central probe agency's office. Earlier in June, he was summoned twice but had sought deferment, citing overseas travel commitments.
Vadra is under ED lens in three separate money laundering cases, two of which involve alleged irregularities in land deals in Haryana and Rajasthan. In April, he was questioned for three consecutive days in connection with a 2008 Haryana land deal. Another case pertains to alleged financial irregularities in a land deal in Rajasthan's Bikaner.
The latest case relates to ED findings reported in a 2023 chargesheet, which alleges that Sanjay Bhandari acquired a property at 12, Bryanston Square in London in 2009 and had it renovated 'as per the directions of Vadra and the funds for renovation were provided by Robert Vadra."
The chargesheet claims that Vadra financed the renovation. Vadra, however, has consistently denied any ownership—direct or indirect—of property in London, labeling the allegations as politically motivated. He has said that he was being 'hounded and harassed" to subserve political ends.
The ED is likely to file a fresh chargesheet in the case following Vadra's latest statements.
Sanjay Bhandari, 63, fled India in 2016 following raids on him in Delhi by the Income Tax department. He was recently declared a fugitive economic offender by a Delhi court.
A UK court had earlier rejected India's plea to appeal to the British Supreme Court after Bhandari was discharged in an extradition case, significantly reducing the chances of his return to face legal proceedings in India.

CID arrests construction firm head in Bokaro forest land scam

Ranchi: The criminal investigation department (CID) arrested the director of Ranchi-based Rajbir Construction company, Punit Agrawal, late on Monday in connection with the over 100-acre forest land scam in Tetuliya mauza of Bokaro district. The CID team nabbed Agrawal from his house located in a residential apartment under the Lalpur police station limits here and produced him before the court on the same day. The court sent him to jail under judicial custody. Agrawal is accused of setting up a fake company, transferring funds into it from the Rajbir construction and utilising it for the illegal purchase of land in Bokaro. Notably, the land, which was acquired for Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), was returned by the BSL management to the forest dept after it was unutilised. As the land remained unclaimed for some period, the land sharks got it illegally registered in their names. The CID, which is carrying out the probe under the supervision of IG Sudarshan Mandal has made three arrests in the case, so far. Two persons — Izhar Hussain and Azhar Hussain — were nabbed in this connection from Bokaro last Saturday. "The CID will be taking all three persons under police remand for gathering more information related to the case. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pernas e tornozelos inchados? The CID would also ascertain whether the 'Gair Mazurwa' forest land was also transferred or not as the figures cited by BSL and the forest department about the plot differ. This is not the only case related to big land scams which the CID is investigating currently. It is also examining scams four times and three times larger than the current one in terms of money in other parts of the state, sources said, adding that the matter would come to light once the accused are arrested.

Prada team visits artisans to explore collaboration on Kolhapuri chappals

1 2 3 4 5 6 Kolhapur: Unique handcrafted Kolhapuri chappals that whisper quiet elegance, epitomise sustainable artistry, all the while adapting beautifully to seasonal weather, captivated a team from luxury fashion brand Prada on Tuesday. A team of four technical experts from the Italy-based global fashion brand Prada was in Kolhapur on Tuesday to interact with artisans who produce the iconic Kolhapuri chappals and took finished footwear as well as various completed and unfinished parts with them. After exhibiting the footwear at its Milan show without naming the Kolhapuri chappal, Prada chose to engage with the artisans responsible for making the footwear. In a recent meeting with the Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (MACCIA), the fashion giant expressed a desire to collaborate with local artisans and supply chains and to conduct business in the future. Consequently, Prada sent a team led by Paolo Tiveron, the director of the men's technical and production department (footwear division). The team included Daniele Contu, pattern-making manager of the footwear division, and two external consultants, Andrea Pollastrelli and Roberto Pollastrelli. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Resmed AirSense 11 with flat 20% off ResMed Buy Now Undo MACCIA president Lalit Gandhi assisted the team in visiting Subhash Nagar, the centre of Kolhapuri chappal manufacturing. Bhupal Shete, a manufacturer and seller of Kolhapuri chappals who is also the director of the Kolhapuri chappal cluster, was with the Prada team during the visit. "In the past, through govt intiatives, we have showcased the footwear in countries such as Egypt, Singapore and a few others. It helped the artisans and sellers as the demand grew. We fought to get a Geographical Indication tag for Kolhapuri chappals. We told the Prada team that these chappals can help feet remain healthy as these provide warmth when its cold, and stay cool during the summers. With the help of Prada, global markets will open up for Kolhapuri chappals and the art will be preserved." Shubham Satpute, a fourth-generation chappal maker, told TOI, "The team members asked us how the stripes are made, how the stitches are done, and how many chappals we can make every month. They gathered information on the chappal-making process. I told them about the uniqueness and the things which only artisans from Kolhapur can accomplish, such as design, hand stitches, leather braiding, and treatment of leather. We gave one antique pair of Kolhapuri chappals to the Prada team. They also took various samples of braids, finished, and other unfinished parts." TOI has written to Prada seeking details of the visit, and a reply is awaited. Gandhi said this is the first time representatives of the company, with a turnover of Rs 50,000 crore, had come to Subhash Nagar. "The Prada controversy has helped take Kolhapuri chappal to the global stage. Now, the next team of Prada, which is associated with the business aspect of the trade, will come to Kolhapur in the first week of Aug," Gandhi said. The Prada team stayed in Kolhapur and is likely to visit Chappal Line, the famous lane of Kolhapuri chappal shops near the Mahalaxmi temple on Wednesday morning before leaving for Milan, said Gandhi.
