ASEAN TVET Council 4th Regional Policy Dialogue highlights three key enablers
The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) said the three key enablers are effective education and training, meeting industry demands for skilled labour, and improving socio-economic standards.
The ministry, in collaboration with the National TVET Council (MTVET), is organising the two-day dialogue themed 'TVET for Rural and Regional Advancement' here, with the main objective of developing comprehensive, actionable strategies and policies to enhance the access, quality, and relevance of TVET, aligned with rural development priorities and inclusive growth.
'The ATC 4th RPD is expected to produce practical recommendations and conclusions to support the development and alignment of national TVET systems with regional aspirations.
'It will also strengthen the role of the ASEAN TVET Council as a key platform for cooperation, coordination, and policy integration across ASEAN,' it said in a statement today.
The statement said the dialogue is held in conjunction with the National TVET Day 2025 celebration, which runs from today until Friday, and Malaysia's chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025.
The dialogue is supported by the ASEAN Secretariat, the German government under the Regional Cooperation on Labour Market Policy and TVET for Twin Transition in ASEAN (RECOTwin) programme, and the Australian government through the Aus4ASEAN Digital Transformation and Future Skills programme.
'The ATC 4th RPD aims to foster regional collaboration, knowledge sharing, and strategic discussions on the role of TVET as a catalyst for the socio-economic transformation of rural and marginalised communities.
'The keynote address was delivered by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who underscored TVET's critical role in driving inclusivity and sustainability, and Malaysia's aspiration to equip the workforce with relevant skills for a dynamic labour market to boost economic growth and social equity,' the statement added.
The dialogue features 29 expert panellists from ASEAN member states, Australia, and UNESCO, comprising policymakers, government officials, industry players, and TVET educators.
The hybrid event is being attended by over 300 participants, both in person and online.

Arrest of military officers over smuggling racket tarnishes country's image, says Zahid
PASIR SALAK: The security of the country remains intact despite the recent arrest of five military officers for their suspected involvement in a smuggling racket, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said. The arrest of the five officers from the Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation (MDIO), Zahid said, although damaging the nation's image, should serve as a strong warning to all enforcement agencies to avoid such misconduct. " It (security) is not compromised, but the (country's) image has been tarnished. "This must be avoided and fully understood by them," Zahid said in his speech after launching the Santunan Desa programme here today. Present were Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang and Community Development Department (KEMAS) Director-General Datuk Mohd Hanafiah Man. Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said he supported the action taken against the suspects as announced by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin. "It is not just about being an informant but being directly involved. If this is indeed the case, it must be stopped because it concerns the image of the armed forces. "More so for those of us in positions of trust, we must act responsibly and not use rank, position, or authority in a defence or security force to engage in unlawful activities," he said. It was reported that the five military officers and five civilians were recently arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) during an operation to dismantle a drug and contraband smuggling syndicate involving senior armed forces officers in the southern region.

Perlis KEMAS empowers rural women entrepreneurs with global vision
KANGAR: The Perlis Community Development Department (KEMAS) has reaffirmed its dedication to empowering rural women, especially those running businesses under its guidance. Director Mohamad Zaki Ismail emphasised ongoing efforts to strengthen women entrepreneurs through the Wanita Inspirasiku programme, themed 'Rural Women Going Global'. 'We hope rural women, particularly women entrepreneurs under KEMAS' guidance, will be able to help increase their family income while expanding the market for their products globally,' he said. He spoke at the launch of the state-level Santunan Desa KEMAS Programme, a two-day event that began yesterday. The programme was officiated by Perlis KEMAS Community chairman Datuk Rozabil Abdul Rahman. Activities included KEMAS entrepreneur sales stalls, Jualan Rahmah, government agency exhibitions, an e-sports competition, and a gotong-royong kenduri kampung. Mohamad Zaki highlighted the programme's goal of fostering a knowledgeable, resilient, and prosperous rural community. It also aims to strengthen ties between the government, community leaders, and local residents. 'This programme supports the Rural Development Policy (DPLB) by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development,' he added.
