Trent Alexander-Arnold responds to Liverpool transfer after emotional statement
Trent Alexander-Arnold has responded after former Liverpool team-mate Darwin Nunez announced his move to Saudi Arabia with an emotional statement. Nunez, 26, has joined Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal for an initial fee of £46.2million.
The Uruguayan played alongside Alexander-Arnold for all three of his full seasons at Anfield but the pair have both departed this summer. After completing his medical with Al-Hilal, Nunez took to Instagram and wrote a statement thanking Liverpool, who he scored 40 goals in 143 appearances for.
"Thank you, Liverpool," the striker wrote. "Three years on, it's time to say goodbye. I'll take with me countless memories that will live with me forever.
"I leave with a full heart, thanks to the love of a crowd that never let me down and always had my back - through the highs and through the lows. Liverpool will always be part of who I am.
"I'll miss you more than words can say. To all the staff and my teammates - thank you, and all the very best for the future. YNWA."
Alexander-Arnold was among the more the 433,000 users who 'liked' the post. Fellow ex-team-mates Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, Alisson Becker, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Conor Bradley and Stefan Bajcetic also liked his post.
Nunez's departure is set to help fund Liverpool's British-record second bid for Alexander Isak, having already seen an offer of £120m turned down. The Reds also sold Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich for £65.5m last month.
Despite having entered the final few weeks of his contract, Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid also brought in a fee of £10m. The 26-year-old will begin life in La Liga next Tuesday when Real host Osasuna.
His replacement at Liverpool, Jeremie Frimpong, scored on his debut for the Reds against Crystal Palace in the Community Shield. Frimpong ended up on the losing side, though, as Palace won a penalty shootout following their 2-2 draw.
But will Slot replace Nunez before transfer deadline day on Monday, September 1? "We think we already have a lot of attacking power in our team," the Liverpool manager said last week.
"I think about Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, Hugo Ekitike, Mo Salah, Jeremie Frimpong who can play as a right winger, Florian Wirtz who can play as a left winger... I already feel I have a lot of attacking options in my squad, but always as a club we are looking at the chances in the market but that can also be in the midfield and the last line."

'Liverpool are never going to get Isak for £110m'
There are two sides to every story and we haven't heard from Alexander Isak yet, or anyone inside the Newcastle United striker's camp, other than him saying he wants to explore his don't know when he told the club that, how he told them, or what his feelings are about exactly why he wants out. What we do know is that Liverpool have offered £110m for recent years we have seen Enzo Fernandez, Declan Rice and Jack Grealish go for about £100m so, if that is the bar, they are never going to get Isak - a 25-year-old striker who has scored 44 Premier League goals across the past two seasons - for £110m.I don't think you'd get Dan Burn for that, to be have named their price, which is nearer to £150m, so we will have to see what Liverpool do top and bottom of it is that if Newcastle don't get the money they want, or the two strikers they need, then Isak more from Shearer here

Emma Raducanu demands child is removed from match in tense row with umpire
Emma Raducanu called for a crying child to be removed from the crowd during her narrow defeat to world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in Cincinnati. The British tennis star almost pulled off her biggest victory since her US Open title win in 2021 before Sabalenka triumphed 7-6 (6-2) 4-6 7-6 (7-5). There were tense scenes at an important stage during the third set – while Raducanu was serving – as a screaming child distracted the 22-year-old. A clearly frustrated Raducanu stopped her service action and told Cincinnati Open umpire Miriam Bley: 'It's been, like, 10 minutes [of crying].' The umpire then responded: 'It's a child… Do you want me to kick the child out of the stadium?' Raducanu was seen shrugging but after members of the crowd started replying 'yes', the British No.1 pointed to them and smiled in agreement. 'I can call in, but we need to continue for the moment,' the umpire added during a break in play. After an incredible tally of 13 deuces – and fending off four break points – Raducanu was finally able to hold serve for 4-4 following the incident. There was another flashpoint in the match when Raducanu was told off by the umpire for getting advice from her new tennis coach Francis Roig. Raducanu could be heard saying 'help me understand' mid-match to Roig, only for the umpire to interrupt and shout out: 'Emma, Emma!' The Briton headed back to her seat and was told: 'Emma, you can't actively approach him and he can't leave his position, you know that? You cannot have a conversation.' Raducanu replied: 'I can't hear anything because the music is really loud.' The umpire then added: 'Then he needs to speak louder. You cannot actively approach him and he cannot leave his position, he needs to stay where he is and you cannot actively go towards him. 'What you've done with the ball is fine, but you cannot actively go at the end of a game especially.' World No.39 Raducanu apologised to the umpire, saying: 'Sorry I didn't know.' Raducanu eventually lost via a tie-break in the in the deciding set as Sabalenka survived a fantastic battle to reach the the last 16 in Cincinnati. Tennis journalist and commentator Jose Morgado declared the clash 'one of the best matches of Raducanu's career' in a showdown which lasted three hours and nine minutes. Raducanu is currently gearing up for the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year – the US Open – which gets underway in New York on August 24.
