Boy dies after coming in contact with high-tension wire in outer Delhi

Time of India20 hours ago

New Delhi: A 10-year-old boy died, and his brother was injured after they accidentally came in contact with a high-tension wire while playing on their terrace in outer Delhi's Nangloi.
Police said that they got information about the incident around 6.30pm on Wednesday. The caller reported what was then believed to be a fire-related accident at Lakshmi Park, prompting a team from the police station to rush to the scene.
Deputy commissioner of police (outer district) Sachin Sharma said that during the initial assessment, it was found that high-tension overhead electric wires were running directly above the house.
It is suspected that the boys accidentally came in contact with the wires while playing. "There was no major fire outbreak. The incident was identified as a case of accidental electrocution," the police said.
Both children suffered burn injuries. Their father, who works in the private sector, and their mother, a homemaker, were at home when the mishap occurred. The boys were immediately rushed to a hospital. Sadly, the older child succumbed to injuries during treatment, DCP Sharma said.

The fire department reported that the 10-year-old suffered approximately 35% burns, while his younger brother had about 19% burns. Appropriate legal action has been initiated under relevant sections of the law.
A neighbour, Pradeep, recounted the horrifying moment. "I was inside my house when I suddenly heard a loud blast. I ran outside and immediately alerted the fire brigade," he said. "We don't know exactly how the boys came in contact with the wires, but the high-tension lines are very close to the rooftop of their house."
Several tragic incidents of electrocution involving children and adults have been reported across Delhi. Last month, a nine-year-old boy was electrocuted while playing at a park in Kalkaji. In July last year, a 34-year-old woman died after suspected electrocution while walking through a waterlogged street in northeast Delhi's Bhajanpura.

The black box is expected to provide crucial data on cockpit conversations and mechanical parameters, with investigators set to analyse over 1000 parameters to ascertain the cause. In response, DGCA has issued new safety inspection norms for Boeing 787 aircraft.

37-year-old arrested for stealing Rs 40 lakh from bank employee in Kozhikode

Kozhikode: A 37-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a bag containing Rs 40 lakh from a bank employee at Pantheerankavu in Kozhikode. Police arrested M Shibin Lal, a resident of Kaipalam, from Palakkad on Friday. The incident occurred last Wednesday outside Akshaya Financiers, a private financial firm, in Pantheerankavu, where Shibin snatched a bag containing the money from a staff member of ESAF Small Finance Bank and fled on a scooter. Shibin had approached the ESAF bank branch seeking money to reclaim gold pledged at another financial institution. After opening an account at the bank, the employee came to Pantheerankavu with the requested cash. As soon the bank employee stepped out of the car, the accused snatched the cash from them and fled on a scooter parked nearby at 1.30pm. Police had found that the accused had fabricated the story of him having pledged gold and had misled the bank employee using forged documents. According to police sources, efforts were on to recover the stolen money. Based on CCTV footage and mobile tower locations, police found that he had travelled from Thrissur to Palakkad. He was nabbed by a team led by Pantheerankavu SHO K Shaju and SI R Prashanth. During interrogation, the accused claimed that the bag contained only Rs 1 lakh. Police recovered Rs 55,000 and three mobile phones from him at the time of arrest. Police suspect he may have handed over the remaining money to someone else.
