Astonishing number of Chicago cops it took to subdue pint-sized anti-ICE protester

Daily Mail4 hours ago

Several police officers struggled to subdue a pint-sized protestor while swarming him on the streets of Chicago following anti-Trump demonstrations over the weekend.
In footage shared on social media, at least five officers could be seen surrounding the unidentified man near the London House hotel on Saturday night.
The man appeared to swing at the gaggle of officers and resist arrest before they managed to place him in handcuffs.
Nine officers are then seen marching him toward an awaiting police car.
WBBM reporter Brandon Ison said in a post to X that he had witnessed the man damaging property at the nearby Land & Lake restaurant.
The Daily Mail contacted the Chicag o Police Department for further details.
The incident occurred over the weekend as thousands gathered in the Windy City to protest President Donald Trump as part of nationwide 'No Kings' demonstrations.
The site where the man was arrested sits directly across from the Trump International Hotel, where protestors had marched passed on Saturday.
Huge crowds also gathered in New York, Austin and Los Angeles as Trump celebrated the Army's 250th anniversary with a military parade in Washington, DC.
According to the Chicago Sun Times, several rallies were held across the downtown area and into the suburbs.
The outlet reported that one person was arrested at the protests, though it was not immediately clear if the person is the man shown in the clip.
Demonstrators had gathered over the weekend to speak out against ICE, immigration policies, and what they viewed as authoritarian displays of power.
Organizers said that millions marched at hundreds of events across the country.
Speaking at Daley Plaza in Chicago, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin told the thousands that had gathered: 'When I look out at this gathering, I don't see Daley Plaza.
'I don't even see this city. I see America. I see a country that decided in 1776: No kings in America.'
Trump has made deporting undocumented immigrants a key priority for his second term, after successfully campaigning against an alleged 'invasion' by criminals.
Raids earlier this month by ICE in Los Angeles sparked days of protests and unrest, prompting the president to deploy 4,000 members of the National Guard and 700 Marines.
California has sued to regain control of the National Guardsmen from Trump, arguing he overstepped his authority. That suit is working its way through federal court.
On Sunday Trump also directed authorities to ramp up deportation efforts in Democratic-led cities.
In a post to social media, he said that 'every day, the Brave Men and Women of ICE are subjected to violence, harassment, and even threats from Radical Democrat Politicians.'
He insisted that 'nothing will stop us from executing our mission. ICE Officers are herewith ordered to do all in their power to achieve the very important goal of delivering the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History.'
Trump added that 'Radical Left Democrats are sick of mind, hate our Country, and actually want to destroy our Inner Cities - And they are doing a good job of it!
'To ICE, FBI, DEA, ATF, the Patriots at Pentagon and the State Department, you have my unwavering support. Now go, GET THE JOB DONE!' he wrote.

Israel-Iran live: Trump says US won't kill Iran's leader - 'at least not for now'

By Mark Stone, US correspondent, in Washington DC This is the highest stakes diplomacy via social media. The American president just posted on his Truth Social platform, as we covered in our previous post (see 17.28). In real time, we are witnessing Donald Trump's extreme version of maximum pressure diplomacy. He'd probably call it the art of the deal, but bunker busters are the tool, and it comes with such huge consequences, intended and unintended, known and unknown. There is intentional ambiguity in the president's messaging. His assumption is that he can apply his 'art of the deal' strategy to a deeply ideological geopolitical challenge. It's all playing out publicly. Overnight, the New York Times, via two of its best-sourced reporters, were told Trump is weighing whether to use B2 aircraft to drop bunker busting bombs on Iran's underground nuclear facilities. Meanwhile, Axios was reporting that a meeting is possible between Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff and Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The reporting came just as Trump warned "everyone in Tehran to evacuate". The nuclear sites being threatened with bunker busters are not in Tehran, but Trump's words are designed to stoke tension, to confuse and to apply intense pressure. His actions are too. He left the G7 in Canada early and asked his teams to gather in the White House Situation Room. This is a game of smoke, mirrors, brinkmanship and, maybe, bluff. In Tehran, what's left of the leadership is watching and reading closely as they consider what's next. Maybe the supreme leader and his regime's days are numbered. Things remain very unpredictable. From history, though, regime change (even when it comes with a plan - and there is certainly not one here) spells civil war and from that comes a refugee crisis. These are truly tense and chaotic times.

Fox's Maria Bartiromo shares ‘fun' Trump post on-air without realizing it's totally fake

Maria Bartiromo has a long history of peddling conspiracy theories and falling for blatant hoaxes, so it probably shouldn't be all that surprising that the MAGA-boosting Fox Business anchor was taken in this week by an obviously phony post purportedly made by Donald Trump. While the president celebrated his 79th birthday over the weekend with a sparsely attended military parade through the streets of the nation's capital, thousands of anti-Trump 'No Kings' protests took place across the United States. With the specter of millions of Americans taking to the streets to voice their displeasure with the current president and what they see as the nation's descent into authoritarianism, a screenshot of a supposed Truth Social post from Trump mocking the demonstrations began making the rounds on social media and quickly went viral among MAGA supporters. 'A HUGE THANK YOU to all the 'No Kings' protesters yesterday! I was very concerned a king was trying to take my place, but thanks to your tireless efforts, I am STILL YOUR PRESIDENT!' the post stated. 'Great job all!!!' Despite t he post being fabricated, the president's eldest son shared it on Monday on his Instagram account, which currently boasts over nine million followers. 'It's not real, but it should be. I might have to make a phone call. Lol,' Donald Trump Jr. wrote alongside the phony Truth Social screed. Apparently, nobody told Bartiromo or her producers that the president's social media rant was a hoax, and she ended up running with it on Monday morning's broadcast of her Fox Business Network program Mornings with Maria. Towards the end of her interview with Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), in a moment first flagged by Mediaite, the pair grumbled about news reports that the president's military parade was not well-attended, calling it 'another left-wing lie' while insisting a 'ton of people' showed up. 'They were focused on bleachers that were right next to where we were sitting,' the congressman added. Bartiromo took that opportunity to bring up the fake Truth Social post, using it as an example of the president roundly dismissing the nationwide demonstrations – something she applauded Trump for supposedly writing. 'I love the way the president handled it because, congressman, he put out a tweet,' she declared. 'He writes: 'A huge thank you to all the No Kings protesters yesterday. I was very concerned that a King was trying to take my place but thanks to your tireless efforts I am still your president! Great job all!'' Turning back to Crenshaw, Bartiromo gleefully added: 'The president had fun with that!' Crenshaw, apparently unaware that she had just referenced a fake Trump post, laughed in response as they wrapped up the segment.
