Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT sets new benchmark at Yas Marina F1 Grand Prix circuit
The Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT has officially set a new benchmark at the Yas Marina Circuit, becoming the fastest production SUV to lap the iconic Formula 1 Grand Prix layout. Piloted by racing driver Ramez Azzam, the high-performance SUV clocked a lap time of 2:14.046 around the 5.281-kilometre track. This lap marks the first time a production SUV record has been formally recognised at the venue, setting a precedent for future time trials under strict motorsport regulations.
The record-setting run took place under a newly introduced, officially sanctioned format, jointly developed by Yas Marina Circuit and the Emirates Motorsport Organisation (EMSO). The official lap record procedure included pre-run scrutineering to ensure showroom specification, a 60-minute practice session, and a 45-minute qualifying window in which the lap time had to be set.

The Cayenne Turbo GT lap reinforced its reputation as not just a luxury SUV, but a track performer too, keeping up an average speed of 141.83 kmph. The record-setting session took place from 7:00 pm to 7:45 pm under ambient conditions of 27.6 degrees Celsius air temperature, 39.1 degrees Celsius track temperature and 61.7 per cent humidity. Wind speeds were calm at 1.4 kmph.
Ramez Azzam, who recently won the GT4 class at the Dubai 24 Hours, praised the Cayenne Turbo GT's handling prowess, saying, 'The power and sound of the engine is impressive, but what sets the Cayenne Turbo GT apart is its braking and handling. For a car of this size to remain so composed through corners is remarkable. I could push it hard and still feel completely in control."

Porsche unveils its 911 track monsters for 2026 with aero and suspension upgrades
Porsche MotorSport has unveiled its official, track-only race cars for the 2026 season, featuring a range of updates to performance, suspension, and aerodynamics. The redesigned 911 Cup replaces the outgoing 911 GT3 Cup, and it will be sold to a mix of professional, semi-pro, and amateur teams participating in Porsche's global one-make championships, such as the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The upgraded 911 GT3 R is designed for open-brand series with GT3 class rules as well as endurance races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Teams purchasing the 911 GT3 R are generally established customer racing outfits, some with manufacturer support, targeting overall wins against other car brands. The one-make championships with the 911 Cup offer a level-playing field among a wide range of drivers looking to prove themselves in identical machinery. As such, it is produced alongside the series-production cars at the Zuffenhausen plant. The Cup car now ditches the LED DRLs to minimise costs after inevitable collisions. It further a new three-piece front splitter, which makes it so that only the damaged parts need to be replaced after collisions. The 911 Cup brings enhanced aero performance owing to the new louvre vents integrated into the fenders. These guide airflow through the wheel arches to increase front-end downforce. The rear-end grows more aggressive thanks to the new swan-neck rear wing, and there is a new engine cover as well, made from recycled carbon fibre fleece blended with bio-based epoxy resin. The brakes are thicker with bigger cooling channels, wider brake pads, a bigger fluid reservoir, and an upgraded ABS. The steering has been additionally fine-tuned for a tighter turning radius. Porsche extends the upgrades to the cabin as well, which gets a new multi-function steering wheel, an updated switchgear, and additional foam padding. Under the hood lies a liquid-cooled, 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine that is mated to a 6-speed sequential dog-leg gearbox. With this, the 911 Cup makes 512 bhp, up from the outgoing model's 503 bhp output. The boxer engine has been upgraded with individual throttle valves that are flow-optimised and camshafts with extended valve-opening times. Porsche says, this design eliminates the need for a centrally positioned throttle valve, which in turn allows for the installation of an air restrictor," which is often mandatory in other racing championships. It won the inaugural Endurance Trophy for the LMGT3 class in the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), including a class victory at Le Mans. It remained undefeated at the French classic yet again in the 2025 season. For the 2026 season, Porsche has optimised the GT3 R's suspension and aerodynamics to allow for 'an even more balanced handling and improved drivability." The car gets new ventiducts on top of the front wheel arches, enhancing aerodynamic performance by counteracting front-end compression during deceleration. As such, this reduces the GT3 R's tendency to tilt forwards during heavy braking, the usual side-effect of rear-engined cars with a light front-end. The massive swan-neck rear wing that takes up a lot of our screen real estate is fitted with a 4mm Gurney flap to help generate additional rear-end downforce. The underbody is fully enclosed, and the modified kinematics of the multi-link rear axle reduce rear-end compression and optimise load distribution. The car further benefits from upgraded brake and power steering system cooling. The 2026 911 GT3 R continues to be powered by the 4.2-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine that makes up to 557 bhp, depending on the Balance of Performance (BoP) classification decided upon by race officials. Since the drivetrain remains largely unchanged, Porsche is planning to offer around 60 upgrade kits at a price starting at 41,500 euros ( ₹42.40 lakh). With this, teams can install the new generation upgrades directly onto their existing GT3 R race car. Check out Upcoming Cars in India 2025, Best SUVs in India. First Published Date:

Volkswagen to discontinue its flagship Touareg SUV after 24 years
Volkswagen Touareg, the flagship premium big SUV from the German car manufacturer, is looking at the end of its road. The auto OEM is reportedly planning to pull the plug on the SUV after 24 years of production. The carmaker is planning to shelve the Volkswagen Touareg SUV by the end of 2026. British automotive publication Autocar UK has reported that Volkswagen replaced the Touareg SUV with the Atlas in the US, one of the key global markets for the automobile brand, owing to the fact that the OEM has not sold the Touareg in the country since 2017. According to the publication, Volkswagen does not have a model planned as a direct successor for the Touareg, which hints that the company is focusing on building a portfolio of affordable models for cost-conscious consumers. The SUV came as the result of a collaboration between Volkswagen and its subsidiaries, like Porsche and Audi, that also spawned the Cayenne and Q7, respectively. Volkswagen designed the Touareg SUV, along with the Phaeton, at the time. The SUV was dubbed a premium product that elevated the brand into the luxury car segment. The Phaeton didn't last long, but the Touareg stuck around until the mid-2010s in some of the key markets, albeit with dwindling sales. Despite its focus on affordable models, Volkswagen isn't abandoning buyers in Europe who want something big. The company introduced the Tayron last October, which is available in two- and three-row configurations and is related to the Tiguan. Meanwhile, Volkswagen Touareg's discontinuation is going to be the end of an era for the brand. The SUV remained a bold product that featured a range of powertrains, including a V10 diesel engine.
