Hit bakery selling viral 24-layer chocolate cake announces 'game changer' that's got people in a frenzy

Yahoo26-05-2025
A hit bakery which has gone viral for its 24-layer chocolate cake which costs £20 a slice has made a 'huge' announcement about its future - describing it as their 'biggest change' yet.
Get Baked opened its first brick and mortar store in Manchester's Stevenson Square earlier this year, leading to huge queues as people camped out to get a slice of their viral cakes and bakes.
Starting life in Leeds in 2011, the bakery - led by Rich Myers - has become a baking sensation for its Bertha cake (inspired by the infamous Bruce Bogtrotter cake in Matilda), as well as its cookies, pies, and cakes.

Now, just two months after opening up in the Northern Quarter, Rich and the team has announced their Get Baked is set to expand on its offerings thanks to a popular Yorkshire deli shop - and fans have been unable to contain their excitement.
It has been revealed that all Get Baked stores will soon begin serving sandwiches and deli goods from Silver's Delicattessan. Located in Bramley, Leeds, the sandwich shop first opened in November 2023 by owner Chris Riley-Smith and has found similar fame to the bakery with its homemade breakfast sandwiches and crammed hoagies.
With combinations including salt beef brisket with pickles, swiss cheese and mustard, as well as a popular chicken and bacon sandwich featuring overnight-roasted chicken and homemade aioli, the shop has also been nominated at the Uber Eats Restaurant of the Year Awards.
Posting about the partnership, Get Baked wrote on Instagram: 'Silver's is joining the GET BAKED family. This marks the biggest change to both brands since their conception - one which will provide endless joy for all involved, both staff and customers alike.
'Silver's will become the in-store sandwich and deli offerings at all GET BAKED locations, including future openings. I cannot do what Silver's does, better than Silver's can, and I don't want to even try.
'Yesterday, their Hot Honey Chicken sandwich nearly ended my life - joy to that degree can be dangerous, and I very nearly perished because of it. This is going to be a lot of fun, and it's going to make a lot of people incredibly happy, which, ultimately, is why we do it.'
As expected, the news went down an immediate fan with fans of both stores. One person boldly proclaimed: 'This is the Yorkshire equivalent of a royal wedding.' Another said: 'This is good Manchester news.'

Another person wrote: 'This is a game changer.' One other said: 'Huge!!! Congrats.' Another praised the two for joining forces by posting: 'When businesses know other businesses' worth and use to further each other, it can only be hugely applauded.'
It has not yet been announced when the partnership will come into force, with Get Baked simply telling fans to 'stay tuned' and to 'please ensure that you prepare yourselves accordingly' in the meantime.

Restaurant Jackman & Co. opens, pays tribute to Glenview founder

There's a very good reason why Ballyhoo Hospitality decided to open its newest restaurant, Jackman & Co., in Glenview. 'Glenview chose us,' explained founder and CEO Ryan O'Donnell. 'They came to Ballyhoo and asked if we would do a restaurant in Glenview. Glenview is a great village and I do have lots of friends who are there.' O'Donnell added that he, his wife Anna, and their children live down the street in Wilmette. The chain already had restaurants nearby in Wilmette, Winnetka, Highland Park, and Lake Forest. O'Donnell noted that he took into account Glenview's plans for redevelopment of the downtown area. 'We created a deal together that allowed us to put a business plan in place that made a lot of sense,' O'Donnell explained. 'They gave us grant money and they also secured a loan.' The Village Board reported the details of the agreement in an e-newsletter sent to residents in September 2023. It included the fact that the redevelopment agreement required the village to prepare the site for construction. It also provides a $1.75 million grant. In addition, the village and Ballyhoo have a loan agreement for $2.25 million to be paid back to the Village at 2% interest over the next 15 years, per a village spokesperson. There is also an intercreditor agreement that details how the village would assume responsibility to pay off Ballyhoo's portion of a second loan from a private bank. It further noted that a 'reverter clause' states that if Ballyhoo doesn't fulfill its obligations, ownership of the land and building would revert back to the village, per village information. O'Donnell noted that Jackman & Co. is fully owned by Ballyhoo Hospitality. The restaurant was named in honor of Edwin Stanton Jackman, a 'founding father of Glenview,' O'Donnell said. 'He was a steel magnate who delivered steel to the railroads back in the 1800s.' Jackman donated a bear fountain to Glenview that has become a beloved symbol of the village. It is also the mascot of the new restaurant named in Jackman's honor. It took a year for Ballyhoo to construct the new building on the space at 1749 Glenview Road. The 5,800-square-foot restaurant seats about 170 inside and 50 outside. O'Donnell reported that Jackman & Co. is a 'British-inspired gastropub that meets the Midwest.' Executive Chef Matt Lehto was not available for an interview. The menu includes British comfort food and Indian aromatics, with such menu items as red Thai curry prawns, battered fish and chips, and British beef roast with duck fat potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. The cocktail list includes such playfully-named selections as 'The Queen Doesn't Need a Passport,' which combines vodka, blackberry, thyme, and lemon. London dry gin with italicus and dry vermouth are served in 'A Happy Marriage.' The bar features an extensive selection of whiskeys. Nonalcoholic selections include, 'If These Walls Could Talk,' a mocktail of strawberry, cardamom, lemon, and ginger. Ballyhoo Hospitality officially started in 2018 but its first restaurant, Gemini, was opened in 2009 in Lincoln Park. There are currently 15 Ballyhoo restaurants in Chicago and suburbs. O'Donnell said that he chooses the location and format of each Ballyhoo restaurant by instinct. 'I don't have a grand plan and I don't usually preplan what I want to put and where,' he said. 'I look for opportunities with different neighborhoods and communities that I like and that I spend time in. I like to be part of the communities that I know will support us.' The Gilded Age finale ending, explained: Are Bertha and George Russell headed for break up?

Last night's season finale of The Gilded Age left viewers with plenty of cliffhangers: Will Larry and Marian finally put aside the miscommunication that derailed their engagement? Will Peggy and William be able to enjoy their engagement without his mother ruining their love? Is Oscar about to enter into a lavender marriage with Bertha's sworn enemy? Will Clock Twink (Jack/John) and Bridget finally get together? There's so much to parse through, but the biggest remaining question is... are Bertha and George headed for a divorce of their own? The two have been off all season, and in the finale, George shows up for Bertha only to leave again afterward. She watches him drive away from their Newport mansion in tears. Carrie Coon, who plays Bertha, spoke to Cosmopolitan about where the couple went wrong this season and how Bertha's experience of the shooting differs from George's. "When George has this near death experience, she realises how much she loves him and how they belong together," Carrie said. "But he has a real crisis of faith in his own decision making and his own values, and whether their values are aligned. They just end up in wildly different places. "And Bertha really doesn't understand how that has impacted him psychologically. It's a little bit under-examined. It comes out of left field for Bertha, even though nothing really comes out of left field, if you really think about it." To recap, they still don't technically know who shot George, and because they don't want to involve the police, the shooter is presumably still at large and whoever hired him still wants George dead. George made many sloppy mistakes this season, and in my opinion, leaving Bertha in this moment will end up being another one of them. We'll have to wait for season 4 (which is confirmed) to see how this plays out. Aunt Ada finally gets her moment in the sun when Agnes allows her to sit at the head of the table at dinner. After all, she is paying for it! Aunt Agnes learns that the woman from the historical society wasn't trying to shake her down for money, but actually wants to make her a vice president of the foundation. She's incredibly flattered. Peggy accepts William Kirkland's proposal! But her father only gave his blessing with a warning about how marriage only exists between a man and his wife, not a man and his wife and his parents. William's dad, meanwhile, is working on putting Mrs. Kirkland in her place. Good luck to this newly engaged couple. Oscar proposes a kind of lavender marriage to Mrs. Winterton, who you'll remember as the woman who tried to sleep with George. The proposal is simple: they live separate lives when they're not in New York, and when they're in New York, they play at being a power couple. He gets access to her money, and she gets access to his connections. Other than the whole love aspect (who needs it!?), it's a win-win! Gladys is pregnant! So it turns out moms can be right sometimes. She and the Duke seem to be happy, and his sister Sarah has been kicked to the curb. Larry and Marian seem to come to a resolution, but they never discuss whether their engagement is technically back on or not. They do share a dance at Bertha's ball, which feels like a makeup. We'll see! Aurora Fane and Charlotte Astor both appear at Bertha's end of season ball. This is a huge deal because both of them are likely getting divorced, and Bertha made an exception to Mrs. Astor's own rule. Mrs. Astor, in an even more shocking move, showed up at the ball anyways. Jack (or as I like to call him, Clock Twink) has moved into his new house, and when he comes back to have tea with the gang downstairs at the van Rhijn home, Bridget seems to realise how much she misses him and gets a bit jealous of the young women working in his home. She brings him a stew at his new place, and they share a very adorable meal together. He reminds her that in his house, she's not a servant, she's an equal. Raise your hand if you were chanting 'Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!' during this scene, because I definitely was.
