Game of Thrones prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms pushed back to 2026

Digital Trends15-05-2025

One of the ideas behind running two different Game of Thrones prequels at once was to keep the franchise alive on HBO and Max during the long breaks between seasons. However, the next prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will now be skipping 2025 altogether. And that may mean both House of the Dragon season 3 and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms could come out in the same year.
Via Variety, HBO confirmed the delay when it screened a trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms during its upfront presentation. The trailer ended with a vague 2026 release window, but HBO CEO Casey Bloys suggested that it would be released in winter 2026. That would have it premiere on HBO and Max in either January or February 2026. HBO hasn't announced when House of the Dragon will return. But if season 3 doesn't premiere in 2026, then pushing it back to 2027 would mean a nearly three-year gap between seasons. House of the Dragon season 3 is currently in production.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms takes place only a century before Game of Thrones, and it's based on George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas. The story focuses on a poor knight, Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), who befriends Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), a young boy who is secretly one of the Targaryen heirs to the Iron Throne. Several members of Egg's family will appear in the series, including Prince Aerion Targaryen (Finn Bennett), Prince Baelor Targaryen (Bertie Carvel), and Prince Maekar Targaryen (Sam Spruell).
Much like the Song of Ice and Fire novels, Martin hasn't written all of Dunk and Egg's adventures yet, but he has touched upon their ultimate fates beyond their time together. Martin's next novel, The Winds of Winter, has yet to be completed and there is no word on when or if it will be finished.

Is ‘S.W.A.T.' Renewed for Season 9? Inside the Show's Future After It Was Canceled 3 Times

S.W.A.T. concluded its eighth and final season on May 16, 2025, but many fans aren't ready to let go of the hit police drama. After all, it was canceled not once, not twice, but three times, and two of those cancellations were reversed. So, was the third cancellation the real deal, or can viewers expect to see S.W.A.T. return for season 9? Closer breaks down everything to know about the show's future. CBS called it quits on the action series for the third time in March 2025, a few weeks ahead of season 8's finale. 'It's heartbreaking news, primarily because it's been such an immense pleasure working with this cast and crew to put out a show that we've always been proud of,' showrunner and executive producer Andrew Dettmann said in a statement at the time. 'They are truly an extraordinary group of people who have all worked so hard and have been so dedicated for all these eight seasons, overcoming countless challenges. I can't give them enough credit.' Shemar Moore, who played Daniel 'Hondo' Harrelson, also shared a video discussing the news on Instagram. 'I wasn't going to do this, but I can't help it,' he said. 'S.W.A.T., here we are, season 8, three weeks away from the finale. We are canceled again. It sucks. It's sad.' While many fans were holding out hope that CBS would reverse its decision to cancel S.W.A.T., as it did ahead of seasons 7 and 8, this did not happen after the third cancellation. However, Sony Pictures TV Studios prexy Katherine Pope said that the creators did attempt to sell the show to other networks. 'It felt very clear from CBS that this was the end,' she explained to Variety on May 22, 2025. 'It was a difficult decision for them, but it felt very final. So we set out to sell the show elsewhere. We tried really hard, and we felt like we got close at a place or two, but we just couldn't quite get it over the line.' Though S.W.A.T. was not renewed for season 9 at CBS or another network, fans will still get to watch the beloved series in another form. A S.W.A.T. spinoff series called S.W.A.T. Exiles was announced shortly after the series finale. Shemar is set to reprise his role as Hondo. 'After a high-profile mission goes sideways, Hondo is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental SWAT unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits,' the logline reads. 'Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program that made him who he is.' S.W.A.T. Exiles will have 10 episodes, although it does not yet have a home on any network or streaming service as of publication. Katherine told Variety that the series plans to begin production in August 2025.

Jimmy Fallon Says ‘People Want You to Fail' When You're on ‘SNL', Adds Dealing With Hate Is the ‘Absolute Worst': ‘You Can't Make Everyone Like You'

Jimmy Fallon took the good with the bad during his time on 'Saturday Night Live.' During a recent appearance on 'The Diary of a CEO' podcast, Fallon said that as a young comedian on 'SNL,' he wanted to make everyone happy with his performances. Although he's since realized it is an impossible task, at the time, it was 'the absolute worst' when his jokes didn't land. I've Never Seen a Human Vagina' 'I want everyone to like me,' Fallon said. 'I can't stand [the hate]. I go, 'Oh, my gosh. What can I do to make you like me?' I think the answer is you can't. You can't make everyone like you. You just have to do what you do. And do the best that you can at what you do. And be happy with yourself.' Fallon was on 'SNL' from 1998 to 2004. During that time, he co-anchored 'Weekend Update' with Tina Fey and did a now iconic impersonation of British singer-songwriter Barry Gibb on 'The Barry Gibb Talk Show' sketch. Fallon explained that going into 'SNL,' he assumed 'everyone' would be supportive and encouraging of his work. He quickly found out this was not the case. 'Some people want you to fail,' Fallon said. 'People's jobs are to take me down and to put bad press out and stuff. That's their job, and you're just like, 'Ooh.' I don't live in that world. I don't believe that it's real, but it kind of is real and you go, 'Oh, people are just kind of being mean.'' In February 2014, Fallon joined 'The Tonight Show,' taking over for former host Jay Leno. The show has won two Emmys since: One in 2014 for outstanding interactive program and another in 2015 for outstanding creative achievement in interactive media. Arnold Schwarzenegger reacts to son Patrick's 'White Lotus' nudity: 'This is crazy'

Arnold Schwarzenegger reacts to son Patrick's 'White Lotus' nudity: 'This is crazy' Show Caption Hide Caption 'White Lotus' Season 3 trailer: Rich people and death in Thailand The trailer for HBO's "The White Lotus" Season 3 brings viewers to tropical Thailand and death is in the air. For Arnold and Patrick Schwarzenegger, the apple doesn't fall from the tree, especially in the fruit-bearing department. "The White Lotus" star, 31, and his movie icon father, 77, sat down for a candid joint interview on Variety's "Actors on Actors" series, released on June 3, during which they discussed Patrick's bold breakout role as Saxon Ratliff. A party-loving pool cretin, Ratliff is the poster boy for misguided masculinity on the HBO series' third season. "Saxon leads with his penis; quite literally, that's how he walks," said Patrick of his character's carnal confidence in a February interview with USA TODAY. This also included a scene in which the actor performed in full-frontal nudity. "I couldn't believe (it). I said to myself, 'I'm watching your show, and I'm watching your butt sticking out there,'" Arnold told Patrick on "Actors on Actors." "And all of a sudden, I see the weenie. ... What is going on here? This is crazy." Patrick Schwarzenegger interview: 'White Lotus' breakout star on show, dad Arnold Despite his parental shock, Arnold, who's had his fair share of risqué roles, later reflected on the parallel between his and Patrick's daring career moves. "I said to myself, 'Well, Arnold, hello. You did the same thing in 'Conan (the Barbarian)'andin '(The) Terminator' and in all of those films, so don't complain about it," Arnold said. "It was a shock to me that you were following my footsteps that closely." The former California governor also gave Patrick props on his acting chops: "Your acting surprised the hell out of me. Not that I didn't know that you're good. ... But it was just unbelievable, the kind of stuff that you did in the show." Patrick Schwarzenegger addresses 'frustrating' nepotism claims The father-son duo attended the Los Angeles premiere of "The White Lotus" Season 3 in February, after which Arnold gave his son a cheeky shoutout on social media. "What a show!" Arnold wrote in a Feb. 11 Instagram post. "I could claim to be surprised to find out he has a nude scene, but what can I say — the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
