'Kept staring at me': Woman confronts auto driver over theft attempt; video goes viral
The woman confronted the rapido auto rickshaw driver and also shared his auto number
A video of a woman catching a Rapido autorickshaw driver red-handed in Bengaluru went viral after he allegedly tried to steal money from her purse. The video sparked outrage on social media.
The video was shared by Janhavi Kshatriyas, a fashion designer and model. In it, she can be seen confronting the rickshaw driver about his attempt to steal the money. She also reported the incident to Rapido.
In a detailed post on
Instagram
, Kshatriyas described the entire episode. She had booked a Rapido Auto from Marathahalli to JP Nagar 7th Phase in Bengaluru. During the ride, the driver kept staring at her through the rearview mirror, which made her feel uncomfortable.
She immediately informed her friend via
Snapchat
and mentioned that her phone battery was low. She then requested the driver to let her make the payment before her phone died, and he agreed.
At 9.40 pm, about 1 km before reaching her home, her mother called and asked her to buy coffee powder. She asked the driver to stop, crossed the road and went into a shop. When she found the shop didn't have coffee powder, she exited quickly.
That's when she caught the driver red-handed, attempting to open the front zip of her handbag.

The money was stuck in the zipper, and he was struggling to take it out. He didn't realize she was standing right behind him, watching everything.
When she confronted him, he nervously claimed he was 'trying to move the bag behind to keep it safe,' and even tried to blame a random girl nearby for the theft attempt—despite being caught in the act.
'This is NOT just about money. This is about trust, safety, and dignity,' Kshatriyas wrote in her post.
'I shudder to think what could have happened if I hadn't returned in time.'
She urged Rapido to take strict action against the driver and improve background checks, stressing that passenger safety is non-negotiable. She also warned others to stay alert, especially when traveling alone or late at night. She shared the date, time, auto number and location of the incident in her post.
Several netizens expressed outrage over the incident. One user commented, 'Good thing you recorded and I'm glad you're okay!'
Another wrote, 'I think this is one of the best videos—addressing a serious issue in the right way.'
Rapido's official Instagram account also responded, condemning the incident. It issued a sincere apology on behalf of the captain for his irresponsible behavior and assured that strict action would be taken.

Father, son suffocate to death trying to retrieve ‘lota' from well in Palamu
Daltonganj: A father and son suffocated to death in a dry well while attempting to retrieve a stainless steel lota (small globular pot) at Sahiyara village under Hussainabad police station limits on Monday. The deceased was identified as Jugal Rajwar (65) and Munna (37). Local sources said that the pot, belonging to Jugal, slipped into the well which was filled with rotten mahua fruits and other debris. Jugal asked his son to retrieve it from the well. Munna descended into it with the help of a rope and began to climb back with the pot when he lost consciousness and fell back into the well. When Munna did not emerge, Jugal attempted to rescue him by descending into the well with the help of a rope. But he met the same fate. Police said that the deaths occurred due to suffocation from noxious gas inside the well. Sonu Kumar Choudhury, the officer in-charge of Hussainabad police station, said, "Both the bodies have been taken out of the well. It was a challenging task to extract the bodies from such a narrow, dirt-filled dry well, filled with filth and rotten mahua fruits. We used an oxygen cylinder and mask." Agra: A 32-year-old man was arrested following an encounter in Hathras on Monday, two days after he and an accomplice allegedly shot and killed a 22-year-old woman over a domestic dispute. The victim, Kalpita Sharma, was the daughter of Rakesh Kumar Sharma, driver of Hathras district magistrate Rahul Pandey. Kalpita was gunned down near Sadar Tehsil Gate on Saturday by Naveen and Gulshan while returning home from the market with her mother. Police said that in a joint operation by the SOG and Hathras Police, Naveen was injured in an exchange of fire in the Kotwali Hathras Gate area and later admitted to the district hospital. Haridwar municipal corporation halts vendor payments over Deepotsav irregularities
Haridwar: The municipal corporation of Haridwar has suspended payments to vendors involved in last year's Deepotsav celebration held on Nov 11, to mark Uttarakhand Day, after financial discrepancies came to light. The event, which cost Rs 70 lakh had already seen half the payment released before issues surfaced regarding a land deal related to the celebrations, leading to the suspension of the district magistrate and other officials. The corporation had issued a short-term tender for procuring 2.5 lakh diyas (earthen lamps) with cotton threads, 20,000 litres of sesame oil, 3,000 candles, and matchboxes for the celebration. Reports indicate that the supplier charged Rs 20 lakh for diyas and threads, and Rs 50 lakh for the oil. The total bill submitted amounted to Rs 70.36 lakh. Following objections raised by social activists, the corporation has withheld the remaining payment of Rs 35 lakh, pending a special audit. Municipal commissioner Nandan Kumar told TOI, "We have filed for special audit as per govt order. Further action will be taken accordingly based on findings." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like [Click Here] 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software Esseps Learn More Undo Social activist JP Badoni said, "The people of Uttarakhand sacrificed a lot for the formation of the state and now irregularities are now being committed in the name of Uttarakhand day celebration.
